This is to current students.

What is the best class to take with writing 140. I mean, if we are going to be writing about the subject every week, then I want to take a solid/easyish concurrent class.

What are some of the current student's suggestions?

I was wondering this too. Not even an easy one though really, just one that is interesting with a professor that can teach me a lot about writing.

Just to clarify...

Im talking about the best of these

These are the selections that one can take with writ 140

AHIS 255g: Culture Wars: Art and Social Conflict in the USA, 1900-Present

im taking race and class in los angeles. sounds interesting. plus i want to get the diversity thing over with.

AMST 101gm: Race and Class in Los Angeles
AMST 274gm: Exploring Ethnicity Through Film
GEOG 100gm: Los Angeles and the American Dream
PHIL 137gm: Social Ethics for Earthlings and Others
SOCI 142gm: Diversity and Racial Conflict
SOCI 150gm: Social Problems <---(one I took)
SOCI 169gm: Changing Family Forms
SWMS 210gm: Social Issues in Gender

Those would be my suggestions because they count for diversity as well...I ended up taking soci150 with Messner and it was really good...he was a chill laid back guy (called himself a California dude) whose topics were interesting to write about...I think we did culture of fear, gay marriage, global warming ect...all hot button issues that were easy to form an opinion about and write about...

basically pick something of the above that you want to write about because you will be doing a lot of it in your discussion section (ours had issue debates) and in your writ class....and try try try to get it with diversity to knock that out of the way at the same time

Pick something you REALLY LIKE and are REALLY INTERESTED about. Because, well, you'll be writing about that topic throughout the semester. You could hit both the diversity and cat. 6 at the same time, but sometimes the diversity requirement also satisfy some other GE's (Ex. Cat 1 has some...)

So choose the class you like!

Unless you are good at/enjoy writing, you'll still be suffering no matter what classes you take with 140. =_= It really doesn't matter. It really depends on your writing 140 professor I think, and you can't pick and choose them because they constantly change and therefore don't have any/much ratings. Good lucckkk

I'm taking the Culture Wars Art History Class- I think it will end up being one of my favorite classes. Anyone else know what they're taking yet?

I took LING115g with Finnegan(spelling?). It was actually pretty interesting but I found myself falling asleep (I sat in the second row, lol). I also think that although the writing class is supposed to be based on your cat6 GE, most writ140 classes share a generic course outline/plan and just slightly tweaked.

I took JS 211g with Gillerman. She's not a bad professor, and I found the subject matter interesting...with WRIT 140, a lot of the topics focused on racism and diversity, plus the different viewpoints on media depicting the Holocaust. However, the room Gillerman uses is really stuffy and hot and about 2/3 of the students either don't turn up or are asleep....she never seemed to mind, because she did let us out early a couple of times when it was clear that nearly all but the brave few were passed out.
