Best Dorm Room

Alright so, my best friend and I are going to attend the same college. We’re high maintenance (no need to tell me about it) and we are only looking at colleges that offer PRIVATE bathrooms for freshmen. I don’t care about the price or location.

WashU, but, with a 14% acceptance rate last year, you are more likely to be rejected than to be accepted. On the other hand, High Point University in NC has the best dorms, according to Niche, and their acceptance rate is 76%, so they may be a better choice for somebody for whom dorm comfort is a top requirement.

Are you looking for a private bathroom for you and your friend to share or do you each want your own private bathroom? The former will be a lot easier to find than the latter. Some schools do have singles with private baths available to freshmen but they’re rarely guaranteed, and they’re usually quite scarce. Exceptions may be made for a student with a disability requiring special housing. High Point does have palatial housing but the freshman singles are mostly reserved for students in the honors program. Plus housing preference is given to students who apply early so if you’re not willing to commit ED you may be out of luck.

Your best bet may be to look at schools that allow freshmen to live off campus. My daughter is a first year at a school where 40% of don’t live in the dorms. She’s in a 4 bedroom apartment with 4 bathrooms and a shared kitchen and living room. A private bath was certainly not a requirement for us (she shares one bathroom with her siblings at home) but it is a nice perk.

Honors housing at U. of Cincinnati is amazing but I believe it’s singles with single baths.

I agree with Sue22 that your best bet will be to find a school that allows freshmen to live off campus and get an apartment. Schools will rarely guarantee type of housing.

Millersville in PA. Not private, but each room of 2 people as a bathroom in the room. Not sure if they offer singles other than for RAs.

To clarify, we would like to share a room and bathroom. We are really just trying to avoid having the hall bathroom experience all together.

UC-Berkeley has no restrictions for their freshmen, you can live anywhere you want, dorms are not required. You can find 1 bedroom 1 bath apartments for as low as $1500 a month if you go further from campus. On the other end, there are very nice almost-brand new apartments on the west end, half block from the west entrance. 1 bedroom 1 bath apartments running between $3000-$4000 a month. Check out Gaia, Berkeleyan and Berkeley Central.

If you go the dorm route, you’ll find you have little control over where you live and the type of bathrooms you will be in.

Howard Cutler Apartments at the University of Alaska - Fairbanks has 2 Bedrooms and a Bathroom in each unit, plus a kitchen.

Without the stats of the OP and friend there’s not much point in recommending specific schools.

You’re going to have to live off campus, I’m afraid. You cannot count on a private bathroom just for you and your friend. Trying to chase after that, you’ll run into the following problems:
–College has it available, but college is highly selective and it’s statistically unlikely you’ll get in (as in WashU example above).
–College has it available, but it’s only for upperclassmen.
–College has it available in some freshman dorms, but randomly assigns freshmen to their dorms and cannot give you a guarantee you’d get the one you want.
–College does not have private bathrooms at all in dorms. This will be the most common scenario.

So you do not care at all about these things?
–Majors offered (even if you want to be an English major, you’ll go to a tech school if it has private bathrooms?)
–Size of college (you don’t care if the school has enrollment of 500 students or 50,000 students?)
–Location (doesn’t matter to you if it’s in NYC, rural Montana, or the US Virgin Islands?)
–Religious vs. non-religious (you’ll go to a strict Christian school even if you are not Christian?)
–Preparedness of study body (you’d go to a school where media ACT is 26, even if you got a 35?)
