Now it's time to start thinking about dorms. Which are the best ones? (Take into consideration location, sharing a bathroom with the least amount of people possible, etc.)

I was thinking a suite style, where you only have to share your bathroom with 3 other roommates. I believe it's in the Beaty Towers. Any suggestions?

If you want a suite styled dorm, your choices would be Springs, Lakeside, and Beaty Towers.

Springs: You are in a double with one roommate and you two share a bathroom with two other people that are in a room adjacent to the same room. It's a good location on campus. You can easily take the bus to get to the Hub and Turlington. Gator Corner is just down the street. A lot of athletes live in Springs, so you might run into the big stars on campus. Springs is really nice and the rooms are big. And you have a HUGE walk in closet for you and your roommate so you have a lot of space.

Lakeside: It's an apartment styled dorm. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and living room. You get your own room and share a bathroom with one other person. However, the rooms are small, but big enough for 1 person. It's really nice and private, not as social as the other dorms. However, it is FAR from the main part of campus. It is way out on the west side of campus, and you HAVE to take a bus to get onto the main side of campus, but a lot of buses do pass through there.

Beaty Towers: [I lived here during my Freshman Fall/Spring year]. The rooms were just renovated with new closets like a year or two ago. It's two bedrooms, a bathoom, and a kitchenette area with a table. The bedroom is fairly small for two people. So, what I suggest is that you and your roommate do is bunk your beds and you will have more space. The close is against the wall, and kind of in the open. [you'll see what I mean if you get to see a room]. Also, there is one desk in the bedroom, and one outside in the kitchenette area. So you and your roommate have to pick which desk you want. They're kind of small, but will do. I loved living there because my roommates were fun. It's on the east side of campus, close to 13th street, so it's a 10 minute walk to Turlington, the Hub, the Reitz Union, not far at all. The elevators sometimes tend to break down. One tower is 13 floors, and the other is 14 floors. So, it really sucks when you have to walk down 9 flights of stairs or walk up 9 flights of stairs.

Hope this helps. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Jennings and Broward are the worst dorms on campus....absolutely disgusting from what I hear.

I am in the Hume honors hall, and have been since Summer B 2007, my first semester as a freshman. However when Fall 2007 term came I switched to Beaty Towers...I was there for about half of the Fall term and moved back to Hume because I didnt like Beaty. the beds are WAY too close together...its like you're sleeping right by your roomate.

Murphree is requested a lot because it is pretty much in the heart of the campus and is close to just about anything. It's also right by the stadium and a gym and a fast food eatery (boar's head, Burger King, etc.)

vincanity 1....I am so glad you got in! Congrats! I remember on this board when you were so worried! Jennings is similar to Broward but across Museum Road, making it a bit further from classes. I think that Jennings houses more females than males, on alternating floors. The air conditioning in Jennings is ice cold, but some areas can be a bit "damp" (when d lived there Summer B).

Murphree is nice, but has LOTS of upperclassmen-. Broward is just fine and is almost all freshman. D liked it a lot--very social and easy to meet people.

Jennings and Broward are basically your typical college dorm. Girls on one floor, guys on the other. You have 1 roommate in a double, or 2 in a triple. And one bathroom for the WHOLE floor. If you dont like that, then it will be gross. If you dont mind not having privacy and getting to know a lot of people, then you will have fun. These dorms are so social, people will have their doors open and you meet so many great people.

Yeah I kinda heard I should want Jennings and Broward for summer because they are really social, but I don't know. When do we chose are preferences?!

How about Jennings? Is it similar to Broward?

All the traditional style dorms are great for freshmen. (i.e Broward, Jennings, Rawling, Mallory, Reid, Tolbert, North, Simpson, Trusler, etc.) You meet more people living in those dorms.

The rooms are also really big and nice. It feels new since the renovations 2.5 years ago.

I don't recommend the Murphree Area, particularly Murphree Hall, to freshmen.
Its not uncommon for a freshmen to get a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th years as a roommate.

Can't you just get a bunkbed w/ your roommate in Beaty so you'll have more space in the room?
[/quote]

Yeah, you just need to get 4 steel spikes from the area desk and then you can bunk it.

Just for anyone wondering, you CAN bunk your beds in Beaty to have more room, it can actually work out quite nice...I would say it has more room than most dorms, but is also one of the least social.
