Best On Campus Job?

So I've been looking at a couple of places to work in the fall and I wanted to know which would like to know the pros and cons of working at each job.
1. TerpsZone Desk Assistant
2. Bookstore
3. North Campus Dining Hall/24 Hour Shop
4. Library
5. CRS Member Service Representative

Back in the dark ages I worked at a small out of the way library. Once I was established as a trusted employee, I worked 5-10 2 nights a week, sitting at the front desk, and got lots of homework done. Most people just used the place at night as a quiet place to study. It was a fine job.

I can’t speak to any of those jobs, but 20 some years ago I worked for the campus catering service and that was a great job. Paid better than anything else, it was fun, and you could sign up for events and basically make your own schedule.

Back in the dark ages (prob same time as 1214mom), before it was turned over to Barnes and Noble, I worked in the campus bookstore. It’s retail, so your basic stocking/inventory, sales/customer service and cleaning duties. No opportunity for doing homework, but steady hours/paycheck. Unlike most retail jobs, it was actually not a problem dealing with demanding customers because the clientele is largely students like yourself, speckled with enthusiastic parents looking to buy anything and everything that says Maryland on it…(and yes, I am guilty of being that stereotypical parent now, especially as an alum, ha ha)

Depends on your objective (assuming the pay is the same for all). Do you want to meet people? Have an opportunity to do homework? Develop skills to boost your resume?

The Dining Hall job would be the worst, so avoid that. The Library position could make you work graveyard shifts as it is open 24/7. My friend worked at the library and had to work from 3am.

The best suggestion on there I would say is the bookstore. It’s a pretty quite and peaceful environment to work (not including the beginning and end of the semester) and I believe you are allowed to do homework during a slow shift but I can’t guarantee that.

I don’t know about those other jobs you listed, though. I’ve worked for DOTS before, which I say you should also avoid.

My job this semester will be as a Community Assistant which I believe will be great. The only have 3-hour work shifts 3 times a week and you are encouraged to study or watch movies during your shift. No really, that’s what they told me. They are already full for the Fall semester but you can try for the spring semester.

@JapanLoverKT‌ Do you know if anybody can apply for the Library Position? or would you need to be eligible for work study?
