<p>I am about to be a senior in high school and I would like to pursue a career in nursing. I hope to attend a Christian school, not only in affiliation, but in values. Some Christian schools, however, are not as academically challenging. I was hoping that ya'll would give me some insight on schools that are actively Christian and rigorous in my intended major. Thanks :)</p>
<p>What part of the country do you live in, and what region(s) would you want to look at for colleges?</p>
<p>I live in Texas, but I am willing to go to any part of the country really. I prefer cooler climates, though.</p>
<p>I live in the Pacific Northwest, and know of a couple of good colleges with nursing programs in the Seattle area. Seattle Pacific University is a Christian college in Seattle. Pacific Lutheran University, in Tacoma, is an LAC with a good academic reputation. If I remember correctly, although the student body is diverse, over 40% are active Christians. You’d definitely get cool weather at either school!</p>
<p>I’ve actually been looking at Seattle Pacific University quite seriously. There are all these sites like rate a professor and things like that which I have looked on and some of the ratings were negative. But I guess the people who had negative experiences are more likely to tell all about it than the people who liked it, right? Christian schools are not for everybody.</p>
<p>It’s hard to know with review sites if the information is accurate, especially if there are a limited number of responses. I do think the people with something negative to say are more likely to post. I know someone whose daughter will be a freshman at Seattle Pacific in the fall, but she’s not going into nursing. I don’t think I know anyone else who has gone there. Another school you might want to look at is Whitworth, in Spokane. One of my daughter’s friends is there, and she likes it. Two other friends are happy at Biola University in S. California. That’s not a cool climate, though. Sorry, but those are the only colleges that I can think of.</p>

I have friends that attend or are going to attend Seattle Pacific University and they love it or are very excited to start. Several are studying nursing and they seem to really enjoy the program. As far as I know, they really do have an active Christian community.
A couple other school ideas are Azusa Pacific University (CA) and California Baptist University. Both have nursing programs. We have a family friend at CBU studying nursing who feels that the curriculum is very rigorous.<br>
One other idea is Texas Christian University. They have a nursing program and I think you said you were from TX.</p>
<p>Union U is a college my son had 2nd on his list to attend. He’s going to Covenant College instead, but 100% because Covenant has a Community Development major and Union doesn’t.</p>
<p>With regards to Union, absolutely everything we’ve heard about it was positive as long as the student actively wants a Christian education (others don’t care for the “no drinking” and such things). One Prof that now teaches at Grove City told us that Union has a better Chemistry dept (this learned as I’m searching for schools for middle son to consider - a future science major).</p>
<p>For nursing, I’ve heard it is really good, but you’ll need to investigate further for that specific field as it wasn’t on either son’s radar. IMO, Union U is definitely an academic Christian school and looking to get even better. I like the school - even if it didn’t end up as #1 for my oldest. (I like Covenant too, but it’s smaller and doesn’t have nursing.)</p>
<p>Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Michigan) has a nursing program, excellent science departments, and strong/challenging academics.</p>
<p>Calvin is indeed another nice one that my son applied to and was accepted at. They ended up third on my son’s list - partially due to their far northern climate and partially due to their being more liberal than the two that finished higher up. They are as academic as the other two and could make a nice choice pending your preferences in schools.</p>
<p>What about schools a little farther south? My family really would like me within a day’s driving distance.</p>
<p>Would Harding be too far away for you (Arkansas)? We started to look into that school, but stopped because it was too far away and didn’t have the major my son wanted. I think they have nursing though. It seems to be a nice school, but you’ll need to check it out to see if it matches you. We didn’t get far into checking it out.</p>
<p>Georgetown, Boston College, Quinnipiac, Villanova, and Fairfield are all out-of-state places I applied to. Well actually, that GTown app took too long and I got lazy lol</p>

The only Christian affiliated school I applied to in Texas was Baylor. But honestly, their financial aid package was awful! I’ve got an EFC of 0 and they expected me to get 20K in loans and 10K out of pocket. It didn’t make sense!</p>
<p>Oral Roberts University is a Christian college in Tulsa, Oklahoma that has nursing.</p>
<p>Look at Jesuit colleges/universities. Most of them have nursing programs.</p>

I’m also very involved in campus ministry, so I can tell you all about that as well.</p>

<p>My top choices are Mississippi College, Union University, Belmont, Lipscomb, Oklahoma Baptist, Oklahoma City University, U of Tulsa, and U of mobile. Does anyone know anything about these nursing programs?</p>
