Best singles for first-year housing?

Which residence hall has the best singles for first-year housing? According to Cornell's housing webpage there are singles in Balch Hall, Court-Kay-Bauer Hall, Clara Dickson Hall, High Rise 5, Jameson Hall, Low Rise 6, Low Rise 7, and Mews Hall. I'm a guy, so Balch Hall isn't an option for me. Do we get to request a specific residence hall when we apply for housing?

You can't request a specific residence hall. Cornell housing will place you in a random building so it doesn't matter. Court-Kay-Bauer and Mews are the newest residence hall from the list you mentioned above so you can expect them to have the nicest and most up-to-date rooms and facilities.

If you're a girl, Balch has the best singles and you can request to live there (check all-girl dorm on the housing app). Obviously the newer dorms are nice, but CKB and Mews dont' have that many singles. If you're a guy and want a single chances are really good for dickson (almost all singles) or the highrises/lowrises which are kinda eh. But its all a crapshoot unless you request balch.

Yeah, there's no real point to thinking about this too much- unless you're a girl, in which case you definitely want to request Balch IMO (as long as you're willing to trade a huge, probably single, room, a sink, and quietness for people that traditionally are slightly more anti-social).

I stayed in Dickson, and still view it as the best.

I love my Kay single : P

Can someone help out and list off the choices i can make, as a girl, come april, if i want a single?

From what I understand, I can choose balch, a townhouse (what is that??), a program house (i dont want this), or they will put me in some other place. is this right?

town house is 4 people, 2 bedrooms, 2 people per room, so you'll have a roommate and 2 housemates. townhouse has kitchen, living, dining, bathroom and i think is the best for its price. its also very quiet.

If you're a girl and you want a single, here are your choices:
BALCH: Large singles, sometimes known as a more "anti-social" dorm, it really depends on who you talk to. Most people I know had good experiences there
DICKSON: Lots of singles -- co-ed dorm, I think its like girls/guys wings
Low-Rises: "Crappier" dorms. Designed in suite-style and I think there are a good number of singles in each sweet
High-Rises: Pretty much the same deal as the high-rises
(FYI, the low-rises contain most of the program houses, other ones are risley and akwegon, but you have to opt into these, unless there is a huge housing crunch you won't be assigned one of them)
CKB and MEWS: Semi-suites each have one single and two doubles (at the end of the hall there are larger suites)..nice new dorms.

Basically, you can't choose what dorm you want unless you want Balch or a program house, otherwise its random, but you can request what type of room you want.

^
Thankss a lot. That makes sense.
So if I dont want to room in a program house, I choose either Balch or just a single and they will place me themselves, correct?
This is going to be a harsh choice.

With the townhouses, are the rooms big? And is it considered anti-social?

campus life also doesn't really care what you put on your housing survey or even who you request as your roommate at times. The whole process is very random, unless you're a girl requesting an all-girls hall.

cross your fingers for a Dickson single...

Dickson singles are great
