WORST:

Stanford "Cardinal"

From what I've heard, it's not the actual bird they're named after, but the color..."cardinal" red....

huh?

and the mascot is a tree? I don't get it...

Yeah I don't get it either.

"The "Tree" is representative of El Palo Alto, the tree that appears on the official seal of the University, and the logo of the city of Palo Alto."

"In 1975 the Stanford Band performed a halftime show that suggested (in jest) several possible mascot candidates: the Steaming Manhole, the French Fry, and of course, the Tree. The Tree received so much positive attention that the Band decided to make it a permanent fixture."

I gotta go with MSU Spartans as the best.

The NYU Violets are definitley the best.

Best- UMD's terrapin, testudo

Worst- THe foot of UNC.

The Bowdoin Polar Bears are def the best.. how cute is that.

hahahaha, these posts are so hilarious! seriously, makes you wonder, there should be enough animals in the world to be a mascot, rather than a color or a tree...
i think it'd be priceless if like, a mascot was a rainbow...HAHAHA

I must go with my own school as one of the best. Besides being biased to my school, Fairfield University has the Stags. It's a great sounding name and they have an angry looking red dear with huge bucks.

if there was such a thing, i'd sooo apply to a school that has a mascot of like, a rooster, juss to be able to say, "yeah, i was thinking of going there cuz you know girls loves co.cks...." HAHAH

sorry if this is inappropriate, i will take down as soon as someone says so

My favs:

Florida State Seminoles
Bowdoin Polar Bears
Knox Prairie Fire
Alabama Crimson Tide
Virginia Cavaliers
Duke Blue Devils
Tennessee Volunteers
Vanderbilt Commodores
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Penn Fighting Quakers
Hawaii (Rainbow) Warriors

My least favs:

Stanford Cardinal
Harvard Crimson
Dartmouth Big Green
Cornell Big Red
(As you can see, I'm not a fan of colors, unless they're used as adjectives before a noun.)
Williams Purple Cows (trying too hard to be original)
Virginia Tech Hokies (this word has nothing but negative connotations)
William & Mary Tribe (...what...this college was founded right around the Trail of Tears...more like tribe killers)
NYU Violets (So threatening!)
Tufts Jumbos (lol)

As much as I like Wellesley College, Wellesley Blue is one of the worst mascots along with the color mascots of other colleges.

A school in my area used to be called the Franklin Union Charging Knights. Hahahaha :p (if you can't tell look at the initials)

Go Northwestern Wildcats, Baby

BEST: Georgetown Hoyas

Translation: Georgetown Whats

Those obscure nicknames, like the Hoyas, the Wahoos or the Tarheels are pretty cool, they convey a sense of tradition and a wacky, obscure originality that encapsulates the college experience. The counter-culture ones that aim to discredit the concept of competitive athletics like the banana slugs or purple cows are cool too, in a geek power way, but are actually a little less original (except in some cases like the banana slugs where those critters are all over teh place in the redwood groves around campus.)

Unlike say, the Arizona/Northwestern/Kentucky wildcats or the Georgia/Fresno State bulldogs or the... Generic is only good for prescription drugs.

nathanmlee: South Carolina Univeristy's mascot is the Gamecock, so I guess that'll be your school? lol

I have a friend there who's always saying that kind of stuff. He thinks it's just hilarious.

Best: U. Miami - Ibis

What, no love for the Fightin' Okra? That is by far my favorite mascot in the country. Are there any other mascots named after a favorite regional food besides the Okra and the Geoducks (a type of clam)? If I had my way, we'd see the Mississippi State Hushpuppies and the BU Chowderpots.

Carnegie Mellon Tartans - A piece of fabric? What the hell?

Slight tangent to the mascot idea, but when you walk in graduate commencement at some schools, you wear a hood lined with a color representing your bachelor's degree. There was one guy in my law school class who went to Carnegie Mellon, and the inside of his hood was tartan plaid! By far the coolest hood of anyone graduating.

I’ve got one, haha the guys are the cavemen and the girls are the cavewomen.

May I ask a little favor? I am on the committee to choose our schools new mascot. We have picked the tiger but we need a costume and I was wondering if any of these [tiger mascots](http://www.bestmascots.com/catalog/cats-tigers-c-48_55.html) look funny. Thank you
