BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@laylamom we are in the same boat… left hanging by Pace and Putchase

Oh my gosh. I step away for a breather and POOF, 200+ messages. Such an exciting day for so many. Congratulations to all. For those still waiting, hang in there. You have a great community here pulling for you.

Regarding equality… so agree. D has been a part of so many productions where they were begging for boys and had 40-50 girls vying for the same part. Grrr. I love that these programs recognize this and are demonstrating equality in their acceptances with a 50/50 split at least. With the news of Weinstein being bought by a group of women, let’s hope the paradigm shift has begun and we are on the precipice of a new era in performance. I’m an optimist so I choose to believe this is true.

Let me know if any of you agree!

Would love to find out about Pace. My S auditioned for the MT and Screen acting program. It was/is his first choice still…

D hasn’t heard from Pace (MT) either. At this point, she’s assuming a “no” and proceeding with visits.

@laylamom, @Work64 & @HopeinMT - Add us to the still haven’t heard anything from Pace list - FTVC and Acting. :frowning: And another waitlist - BU. Too many unknowns still!!!

if you’re waiting for Pace, there are more emails/calls to be made. This is from a confirmation email this AM

@laylamom, I don’t know about Pace, but Purchase definitely is NOT done making calls. I contacted both admissions and the theater department yesterday, and they said that the theater department gave the audition results to admissions only this past week, and admissions is slowly going through them and processing them. Some calls have already been made, but notifications will continue going out over the next week as they continue processing the results.

Funny story, btw: When I contacted them yesterday morning, first I emailed both the theater department and the admissions department, but the theater department email bounced back. Apparently the email listed on their website has a typo in it. So I called and left a message on the theater dept voicemail.

A little while later, I got an email from the admissions department explaining that they’re processing the results now and they’ll be trickling out over the next week. So fine, my question was answered, and I went about my day and forgot about it.

Later that afternoon, my phone rang, so I answered it, and the voice said “Hi! I’m calling from SUNY Purchase.” My heart STOPPED! It’s a dream school for D, and we knew acceptance calls were going out! The voice continued, “I’m returning your call…” and explained the same thing as admissions.

I had to laugh, because I totally did that to MYSELF! This wasn’t a school like Pace making random phone calls from regular admissions when you’re eager to hear about an artistic decision. This was ME stupidly leaving a message for Purchase, and then when they returned my call, I had a heart attack because I thought maybe it was an admissions decision. Silly me!

@actorparent1 You have my sympathy. This is a brutal process. My son had a string of rejections and it is very painful. I made him apply to a few b.a. programs just in case. If she does not like her BFA options, then she might still be able, at some schools on rolling admissions, to try to get into a BA program. And many B.A. programs are excellent…

@actingdreams thanks for the intel. Do you know if this is just for theatre or MT as well?

@actorparent1 - keep the Faith! Not silly- shows your positive attitude! Hoping for the good news.

Thanks, @Atreuh and @SFSClark !

SFSClark, my D definitely wants a BFA, because she wants the most intense, rigorous training she can get, with few or no gen eds. So a BA is not a good fit for her.

She does have two BFA acceptances, but not the ones she really wants. But she will visit them and sit in on classes to see if she can picture herself there. She is also applying to Stella Adler and Neighborhood Playhouse, which would give her the intense conservatory training she craves, but unfortunately without a college degree. We also have three more schools left to hear from. So hopefully things will work out one way or another.

Thanks for the support and kind words!

Best of luck to your son. This process really is brutal and so hard on both the kids and the parents. I hope your son gets an acceptance to a school he loves!

Hi, @Work64 I am not sure but from frequent post etc, it seems like the BFA Acting and FTVC seem to work the same way… I do know that dancing hasn’t been called or emailed yet either. They may be taking the Snailmail approach as this is what was told when they first accepted him. They said everything would be through snail mail. The calls (if there were calls) seem to be new

@actorparent1 my goodness! what a blow. I wish they would’ve used that energy and said “let me take a look really quick” I sound like a broken record saying all of this is stressful

Daughter just received a “yes” email from Director of Pace BA acting (international performance ensemble).

All four programs (acting BFA/BA, BFA FTVC, and BFA MT) are run separately but are under the umbrella of Performing Arts - so you will hear in different ways at different times from each Director/designee. This explains the inconsistency and confusion. Hope that helps.

Congratulations! @coronado that’s great new! thanks for explaining Pace Umbrella

@coronado That is FANTASTIC! Congratulations because your daughter rocks!! We loved Pace - still hanging on to tiny threads of hope…

SOOOOOO many awesome acceptances over the last 24 hours! Congratulations to you all. A funny-and kind of to serve notice to the folks that think that Acting is somehow an easier admit than MT: My D is 100% actress first; then dancer, then singer. Last year she went for all audition BFA MTs. Received some acceptances-but decided that they weren’t a good fit, and opted for the gap year. Threw 4 Acting BFAs into the mix this year-and guess what: All rejections. No callbacks, no waitlists, from the Acting BFAs… She is so ok with this-because she loves to dance and sing. She “gets” to do what she wants to for the next four years. But holy cow-your acting kids are phenomenal. She/we are in awe of the talent out there. Truly.

@coronado, Congratulations! We know a second year student in the IPE who raves about this very unique program. Sounds like a fantastic option, especially if your D is interested in international travel and devised work.

@HopeinMT i am so thrilled for your son and for your whole family! BU is a great school, my son’s first choice- but rejected! . You described a very disheartening experience last week (we had a string of rejections too and it was brutal). You only need one! Congrats to your talented son! .

Thank you @SFSClark !! I am still in shock. I am sorry your S didn’t get in and I hope he has some options. It is not over. Still a few schools left. I had the worst week last week I was in tears. You would think that I was the one going away to college! One never knows. The process is brutal and so cruel. It will be nice when it is over and I love reading about the kids who are done and looking forward to choosing. How exciting!!
