BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

If a miracle occurs and my daughter ends up with a Guthrie call back she’ll have to send a video because she is doing the High School musical. She knew of this possible conflict but they are doing Cabaret which is her favorite musical of all time and even though it’s a little High School (it really is -tiny black box) in her world it’s the role of a lifetime and a great way to go out Senior year. So , I guess we’ll jump off that bridge when we come to it! Break a leg at Depaul @actingdreams (we did not pass that pre-screen arg. Seems like a great program). BAL everyone! Always grateful @bhahopeful when you chime in. Super helpful !!!

Thanks for the tech update @actingdreams. D interviewed there and it’s very hard to get a grasp on numbers for the non-acting/MT majors. I appreciate your report.

Hi @Laylamom. I know of 5 students who were rejected from Suny Purchase, Gunthrie and The New School and they all ended up at Juilliard. Acting is subjective and we really do get where we fit in the best. We Audition for them but in some way, they are auditioning for us too ;).All of our kids will be rejected in one way or another  BAL

My son is back now. He says that the DePaul audition was fine. They had 2 groups, had to do their monologue in front of their group but then they were paired with a scene partner. They asked him who his teachers were at his current school ( they know many of them) and one lady who was not very nice asked him why DePaul. He said she’s one of the acting teachers so lets hope that she was just “acting” when she left a negative sting in everyone’s stomach lol. The other question is his acting goals.
He says that he would be ok if he didn’t get in there because It’s just Chicago (Yes I’m thinking what some of you may be thinking as well …Le sigh …) overall, it was a simple movement, monologue and scene with another student type of audition. There were 2 Auditors for his group. … Next! Juilliard Next Wed

@momof2lefties Anytime. I can tell you that there were about 3 for Tech interviews so not many today and everyone with an audition or interview was there at 8am. Hopefully the low #'s means that they desperately need your kid there!

Let’s hope!

@laylamom D1 has the exact conflict 2 years ago. She submitted a self-tape, was placed on the waitlist and eventually admitted.

Wow! Crazy stats from DePaul prescreens - 1100 received and 300 passed? Now I am feeling so grateful that my S got an invite and is doing the on campus audition next weekend.

Hello everyone! Lots of interesting news here, I took a break.

@ginaf1102 - Congrats to your D on the Juilliard callback! That is so cool. We were there the day before, no callback. Wow, about Annette Benning’s daughter. That is slightly intimidating to know about, but still cool. Did Juilliard cut part way through? We heard from a young man that was called back that 17 were called back and then 10 stayed til the end for the “interview”. It’s huge just to be called back.
Regarding Guthrie, my D was called back. She got a long e-mail a few days after NYC Unifieds. She will go. @laylamom - perhaps our Ds will meet up, sending good mojo for a Callback

Another DePaul audition tip. After reading that some students are called to another room or they worked with the monologue or Filmed. Do not expect anything like this here. They don’t work with your monologues, they film everything and everyone at the same time ( they claim to remember the work to the application) there isn’t a “hint” per se that they really REALLY Like you. As stated before, I’ve seen many of their productions. Just like Juilliard, It seems like they already know who/what they are looking for long before they start auditioning. You will leave there not having any indication of if they liked you or not. BAL @STHmom

@actingdreams - My S is also auditioning for UNCSA on 2/4 in Chicago. DePaul on 2/3. Then BU, Pace, Ithaca, SUNY Purchase, Webster, and Rutgers round out the week.

@STHmom We’re auditioning on 2/4 for UNCSA and NYU same day.

UNCSA was nice enough to allow us to attend the morning chat session then return in the evening for auditions. Very accommodating. Our Nyu is in the afternoon. We’re Auditioning for all of what you have going on except Webster but we do have CMU. I believe a total 9 additional schools through the week. Maybe we’ll run into each other. If not, BAL

@actingdreams in the past Juilliard said the interview (or not interviewing) during callback is not a cut or an indicaion of moving forward. Just more info gathering.

That’s what they said this time too. My D wasn’t interviewed, neither was Annette Bennings daughter (hee hee). Let’s hope she is still in the running.

@FourStars - Congrats on the Guthrie callback! That’s huge!

@ginaf1102 I’m still on a nice Natural High for your daughter making the callbacks! Did your daughter have to sing her song and do all 4 monologues during the course of her day? My son has been practicing his song but he frowns upon it LOL I happen to think that he has a lovely voice but he said that he didn’t get into the MT program at his school for a reason (well it was his 2nd choice)

She did all 4 monologues and sang (not everyone sang). Note to kids… if you sing a song in Italian, know what the words mean!! They gave her direction on one monologue and the song. And FYI, there’s a warm up (both movement and voice) before the initial audition. BAL to your son!!

@actingdreams - Re: DePaul audition on campus. S said essentially the same. The interview consisted of 2 questions, leading him to the conclusion - they really didn’t seem interested in me at all. TBD. In Mid-March.

@Atreuh is your S in Lincoln Park? There were a LOT of LP high school there and my S said they auditors appeared disappointed that so many came that day. Such mixed signals. As stated before, their program is excellent but its on the bottom of S lists. I guess your kid has to be here to get what I’m saying. Just as many would love Northwestern and DePaul, my kid is railing against it. I’m sure East coasters feel the same about NYC etc .He was accepted to Northwestern and participated in Cherubs but still said no. I love evanston and spend a lot of time there. S feels its too close to home :frowning:

@actingdreams, I have a kid who feels the same about CCM. We live a mile from campus and she refused to even apply, which is a shame (because—in state tuition!!). DePaul is among her top picks—go figure. Wanna trade houses?

@momof2lefties I have a feeling that your daughter will certainly get into DePaul! everyone who auditioned Saturday didn’t know if the stay liked them or not. It was such an interesting day  Hope the rest of your auditions are great
