^^^what I should really open is a wine store!
That is good news @actingdreams. I know people were trying to get moved to the morning so hopefully, it will be a smaller group this afternoon.
Anyone else have a child who wonât send thank you notes because she thinks it looks desperate? Maybe Iâll write them. Iâm desperate!
@artskids, best wishes for a safe journey.
For the kids going to school in snowy regions, or going into a career that involves travel (eg, shows on tour) , this is a bit of a preview of things to come, I guess.
@fancytheatrekid My daughter felt very much the same way. In her estimation it amounted to kissing up and she felt that it would seem ingenuous. I decided that it was her decision. What we finally agreed on was that if she felt the interaction in the audition room merited a thank you because there was something extra or specific she could reference, or some special connection that made it feel natural for her to follow up with personal thanks she would send a note. She also sent notes of reply to the schools that waitlisted her to express her interest. In the final analysis, she ended up going to a school where she didnât send a note at all. In terms of her acceptances - three were schools she sent notes to, 5 were schools she didnât. So ultimately it really doesnât impact the final decision - itâs a nice gesture if it feels like a natural thing to do, but if it is forced it will sound forced to the recipient. I would say to you just let your kiddo decide what seems right and trust that what really matters all happens in the audition room. Donât sweat the rest!
Safe travels everyone!! I am glad to be home but feel like I am in this weird âin-betweenâ - working today has been quite difficult.
My personal thought: Whether or not a thank you note gets you in a particular school or gets you a particular job is short sighted. The performing arts business is heavily dependent on making good connections, and on coming across as someone people want to spend time with backstage or on set. The skill of being gracious is worth practicing, along with those other, more obviously career-related skills.
As previous posters have said, though, if the notes would end up sounding forced, probably better to skip it. I still remember a thank you note written by a cranky niece years ago which was so obviously forced that it was actually funny. Hah!

So very well said.
I am glad to be finished with all the audition travel. Although the waiting around for decisions is tough⊠I think it may be harder on the parents than the kids. We just want our kids to end up in the best place for them and the waiting is a struggle. S is primarily waiting on (in alphabetical order) Fordham, LMU, Syracuse, and UCLA.
He did withdraw from consideration at one school last week after a visit and cancelled the audition. We could not see any scenario where he would go there given the admits and merit aid offers he already has. There is another school that he should withdraw from consideration, but he just wants to wait a little longer until he hears from one of the above. I guess that is fine, but I donât see him going there. He just wants to keep the door cracked just in case.
Having gone through this process, I am pleased to have discovered that there are many good choices out there. I can see several schools where he would be happy. That is the greatest relief of all, I guess.
Fingers crossed for all of us!
@VASkydog So glad to hear that youâre finished and you have some promising acceptances. Our kids know what fits them sometimes more than we do as parents Good luck to you! My Son loved Fordhamâs attention to their Performance program and he would certainly not mind attending there either. Your S. Other options are fantastic programs as well. We all need to find a way to stay busy Maybe some Seasoned CCâs may have some suggestions on how they dealt with waiting for a letter or an email
@fancytheatrekid :)) Iâm sure many of us are mutually sharing your desperation
My D was confused about what to say in a thank you note so I gave her a framework that helped her: write a 3 part note: 1. thank you for⊠2. Something you liked about the program. 3. A personal reflection of the experience.
Then she was able to craft each note with her own voice. She send them to 5 programs yesterday.
But it is work and letâs face it they are exhausted!
I am thinking that a month long trip to the Galapagos might do the trick. Except I have a job and kidsâŠ
My D just got a âyesâ for Guthrie callback weekend! Sheâs so excited. Let the audition season expenses continue! :))
We just got home from Chicago! My D had 11 auditions in 5 days. It was an amazing experience. We were able to change our flight and get out before the snow storm hits. Hope everyone travels safely! Does anyone have any experience with The University of Oklahoma BFA Acting program?
congrats @gina1102. Great news!
Congratulations, @ginaf1102 ! Youâve had such a thrilling audition season - Iâm dying to see where your D (and @actingdreamsâ S!) end up!
Glad you had an awesome experience and made it jome safely, @jenniferm1973 !
@ginaf1102 YAY! Congrats to you! thatâs fantastic!! So good to hear some things early on. Iâm sure sheâs going to have a fantastic time
@jenniferm1973 Glad you have made it home safely. I havenât heard of anyone speaking about the Oklahoma BFA since Iâve been on but I have a friend whoâs daughter entered in 3 years ago and seems to be gearing up to move to LA soon. She loves the program. I love their price! Their BFA Program is in the top half of the best in the US
@jenniferm1973, my D is going to callback weekend at OU. We know two people in the BFA Acting School who are very happy. We have been really impressed with all of our interactions with the MT School.
