My kids auditioned at SUNY Purchase last week, and were told that notifications would be out around March 15th. (Naviance is probably just talkin about the regular academic admission.)
Thank you @actorparent1. Excuse the typos. I will have to ask my kids how to turn this auto correct off. I think Iām typing one thing but it posts as something else.
Hope the Suny is earlier but at least notifications are prior to April 1st.
Ithaca portal was disabled for my S this weekend. We really tried not to fall in love with these long shots, but that school felt perfect from the moment we walked on campus. Taking a moment to feel sad, then moving on.
@Naevia I hate hearing these portal disabled stories! Iām so sorry.
Iām so sorry, @Naevia. We had that experience with Rutgers. Itās so hard to see the kids fall in love with a program, then get their hearts broken. Agree with taking a day to feel and honor the sadness, then move on. I hope your son gets accepted to a wonderful school he will love!
@Naevia - sorry to hear about Ithaca. Itās kind of a bummer to see the portal that way (same with my S). On to the next. Hoping for good news at other good programs.
@actingdreams , when is the last Juliard? I am sure you are just about jumping out of your skin at this pointāsending you all of the zen vibes I can muster (which, frankly, is not many at this point). BAL to your S.
@momof2lefties Thank you! Iām coming out of my skin for sure ā¦ My S. Leaves for Rutgers this Thursday- Saturday afternoonā¦ The Juilliard audition is March 9-11th. We were told that acceptance would be in writing by April 1st but I hope itās before then. I donāt know when the notification is for Rutgers although I hope itās not an April 1st notice as well
Just for note. It appears only 3 from HS made the callback weekend for BFA. the rest seem to be a bit older
I havenāt been paying attention, but did the PACE portal say the statement below after the application to the university or is this a recent change due to the audition phase?
A decision has been made and your official decision letter has been mailed to you.
@M2twins we had received this message after applying to the school. Acceptance academically was early december. Was told letters for BFAās are being mailed in early March
Thanks @FourStars @actorparent1 @Atreuh The official Ithaca rejection arrived in the mail today, but heās already shrugged it off. I donāt know how Iād make it through this craziness without this kind and supportive group.
FWIW: My D was waitlisted last year for SUNY Purchase BFA. Her waitlist letter is dated March 16. I take that to mean that they probably called or emailed acceptances on March 15. Also, we were informed in email correspondence that they now allow students waitlisted to visit campus. If you happen to be waitlisted and they allow a visit, I strongly encourage you to visit if you can. My hunch is they take that as a sign of interest.
Agree with @ThespDad17. D1 was also waitlisted for SUNY Purchase two years ago. She spent an entire day sitting in on classes and meeting faculty. I do think it made a difference. We tried to get her to any campus she had not visited once she hit a waitlist. Some schools are great and will let you sit in on class; some will not.
Hello! I am just getting onboard after lurking for a week or so. As this waiting stretches on I am realizing the need to reach out to people who understand what I am going through. My D is already out of HS, she graduated a year yearly and headed out into the great wide world once she turned 18. She had some success working but realized there was a lot more she wanted to learn about being an actor. She was invited to be a part of our local Universityās summer theater production and so she decided to move back home, do the play and research colleges. She hadnāt taken the SATs so she crammed for that for about 4 weeks and got passable but not great scores. Then she dove into monologues and songs and managed to get her prescreen videos out. She was invited to audition for all the schools she applied to except one MT program. We live on the W coast but she wanted to do her auditions in NYC so that is where we went. She had a mostly positive experience there! Had positive feedback from many auditorsā¦ but we have heard nothing! No letters of rejection or acceptance, no phone calls or emailsā¦ is anyone else out there in the same boat? UNCSA was her first choice but she didnāt get a phone call so I assume that is out but she hasnāt gotten a letter either. Is there anyone else out there on the west coast that hasnāt heard from them? Maybe it just takes that much longer for mail to reach us! Also, any young actors of color in the group? My D is Asian American and I donāt see many Asian kids in these programs.
@breakingbarriers2018 welcome! many of us are still awaiting decisions from all colleges. Apparently some schools offer a window of acceptance before the average March/April 1st notification timeline. We too did not receive a call from UNCSA and wondering why the rejection letter is taking so long. about your daughter being a minority. I had read that there are advantages to her being a minority because they arenāt many at all. I can attest that during Unfieds in Chicago at both hotels, I only saw 3 African American males. No Asian, maybe 2 Latino amongst the 100ās or 1000ās that we had noticed during the week and they stood out drastically. I hope that things improve in the future. Iām also sure that other cities had a much greater turnout amongst minorities such as NYC and LA Good luck with acceptances
@actingdreams, you are right about NYC. The crowds were pretty diverse in the waiting rooms of the auditions D attended.
@breakingbarriers2018 we are on the west coast and received UNCSA letter on Friday. We are in a major metro areaā¦ There is no rhyme or reason to this process! Welcome!!!
@momof2lefties thanks for confirming. Iām sure they are getting into these programs because I see previous groups that include them. Chicago Unifieds was certainly less diverse but so happy to hear that they too are chasing the artistic dream
@frontrowmama (love your screen name!) you received your rejection from UNCSA? they had to bypass the Midwest to get there. I canāt believe Iām anxiously looking for that rejection letter this process has turned me into a bit of a nutcase
Knowing a lot of children that auditioned over the last three years that were black, hispanic or asian, I will say those kids are at an extreme advantage. Some schools like Carnegie Mellon and Michigan have taken almost half ethnic kids for their classes the last couple years. Some other schools take only a few. If a child is ethnic and they have talent they usually do well in the audition process. Some coaches have said certain years they heard there were only two or three talented asian girls or just a few talented latin boys. When that happens those kids usually get multiple offers from top musical theater or acting schools.
