BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

Thank You @momofj5! It looks really good. I’m looking into tickets. @stmama I didn’t even consider the todaytix app. I’ve seen Hamilton Twice and enjoyed every moment of it. I will certainly download it. We have goldstarevents here for really cheap tickets and good seats

I use Today Tix quite a lot and have always been happy. The app is VERY easy to use. Also, it highlights which shows have a Lottery, which is also something you can do. Enter the lottery by 9/10am, find out at 3, have to respond by 4pm I think. you could wait for lottery and then if don’t win, do Today Tix, espeically if there are several shows you want to see. Obviously if you have your heart/s set on a certain show, this is not the way to go.

@actingdreams I recommend Today Tix also!
And like @emf1959 I humbly recommend Margariaville - my son’s own HS, an alum is playing Jesus! Mike Millan (Hartt BFA), his broadway debut, saw the show opening night, soooo fun! Lots of local pride going on!!!

@#booknerdmom Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I have tickets for the 14th  .

Just checked out Today Tix… So Many Shows… so little time! Hope to catch 2 shows this weekend. Thanks again

Any recommendations for good NYC hotels that won’t break the bank? Traveling the first week in April to make a visit to LIU. Would like to be in the city to take advantage of the sights so convenience is key. This will be a first time visit for me since I’m usually just in the airport on a connecting flight the last few times I’ve been.

@emf1959 - My H and S17 will be seeing Margaritaville on the 14th as well. I bought them matinee tickets for their March birthdays and will meet them for dinner afterwards. They are both moderate Parrotheads, as in will hang out at Jones Beach but not wear full regalia.

@BrokeDad0530 - How are you getting out to LIU? LIRR? I would suggest staying near penn station. Unfortunately, since I commute, I don’t stay in hotels in NYC, except that we did stay at a Hilton Garden before S17’s bone marrow donation and it was clean and comfortable. There seem to be a bunch of them in the city. The LIU campus is lovely. My kids used to attend programs there when they were younger so I have spent time there. It was on S17’s short list, but in the end, SUNY was just so much more affordable (he could have commuted to LIU, but for less money, he could go away - FAR away!).

@techmom99 I’m not completely sure how we would be getting out to LIU. I will be driving up to NYC as I wil have my wife and 2 D’s and the airfare is ridiculous. I figure once we park it we are leaving it and going to try to use as much public transit as possible. Though an early morning drive out to LIU might not be a bad idea. And I understand the Far Away part. LIU is about a 12 hour drive for us.

@BrokeDad0530 really the best thing you can do is just go on Hotels.com and find a good deal then check the reviews on TripAdvisor. Even though I live only an hour away I got my girls tickets to DEH for Memorial Day weekend and decided to get a hotel so we could have a little girls’ weekend. I happened to find a good deal at The Wyndham New Yorker, but really there are so many hotels to choose from your question is very tough to answer! The New Yorker is right across from Penn Station though so that would be convenient. Personally, I would drive to LIU. By the time you pay for three train tickets and the time it takes to get there it probably won’t be worth it.

@BrokeDad0530 dumb question…is the program everyone talks about on the Long Island or Brooklyn campus?

Yotel, Hotel Edison, New Yorker, The Row are a few

Thabk you all for the info. I was on hotels.com earlier scouting things out but wasn’t sure if there was just an easier way to find something that made it convenient to walk and get to the subway and sights, etc.

@marg928 I’m talking about the Post campus which is on Long Island.

@BrokeDad0530 I would just drive then. It’s really not complicated…right through the midtown tunnel and boom you’re in the Long Is Expressway.

@BrokeDad0530, my D and I got a great deal ($115 a night) at the Hilton Garden Inn Time Square South when we were there for Unifieds. It’s at 326 W. 37th Street, a short walk from Penn Station and Time Square. We’ve also gotten great deals at The Stewart Hotel at 371 7th Avenue, across from Madison Square Garden. It’s older but the rooms are large and they even have reasonably priced Suites with a separate living room and kitchenette.

@BrokeDad0530 - I agree with most, you should drive to LIU (I grew up on Long Island). Also, you can use the Icon Parking App and get a parking discount, or go on their website and print a coupon. Parking can be unexpectedly expensive. I have stayed at The New Yorker, The Hilton Garden Inn Times Square (free breakfast usually) and The Night Times Square - all good. Have a blast and I hope all this snow is gone by April.

@BrokeDad0530 In the past we have found Icon Parking discounts on Groupon.

@BrokeDad0530 my husband stayed in The New Yorker recently and it was awful – very dirty and old, so if you can find something else (which I’m sure you can!) I would stay away from it. Just my 2 cents! And, yes, the LIU campus is beautiful! (I live on Long Island).

My S just saw Angels in America and loved it. Nathan Lane is Roy Cohn.

He went to Farinelli and the King, too, and said the play wasn’t that great but you have to go to see Mark Rylance.

The double tree times square is nice. We’ve also stayed a the Row NYC it’s a no frills hotel but not bad and usually has good rates. Staying closer to Penn Station will be slightly cheaper. Honestly though you can walk or use the subway to get just about everywhere. We went last summer and easily used the subway to get from times square to NYU, PACE, Marymount, and all of the tourist sites.

I will say this about driving, we had a rental car and drove from Michigan. When we got to the New Jersey/New York border it took us an hour and 1/2 to get across and another 1/2 hour to get near times square. We decided to ditch the car (there was a budget rental near times square so we returned it) and use public transit. It is also very expensive to park in New York so if there is any possibility of parking across from Manhattan (ie: jersey, brooklyn, etc) I would and then take the subway across, will probably save time and money.
