Jacksonville University in Florida also has an MT BFA. It requires an audition and is one of the few we’ve seen that asks for an art song and a musical theatre piece for their vocal audition.

**PLEASE NOTE:

I have updated the Big List of MT Colleges in POST #2 utilizing input from CC members starting on Post 71 (since the last time I updated it). I verified all information myself online. If you notice slight differences in information that was reported here by others, it is because I listed what I found myself to be most accurate. Questions are welcome, of course. New additions or modifications to old listings are all in red, though of course previous updates were also in red and so not everything that is red is new this time around. Also, as a clarification, I used an “~” if the school was NON-Audition as an entering freshman applicant, even if there is an audition after a year or two to be admitted to the MT program (which was noted in the listing) and/or if there was an audition only for scholarships, which was also noted.

Thank you to all who contributed information. Hope this helps.**

CW Post: B.F.A. in Theatre Arts: Musical Theatre
Suny New Paultz: BA Theater Arts: Musical Theater

I have added the BFA in MT at C.W. Post, thanks.

For now, I am not adding SUNY New Paltz as I cannot find the MT Major and if you can provide such a link, I will look into it. I only see the Theater Arts Major.

Thanks everyone who contributes new information as new programs develop or existing programs are modified. If you can provide links when you suggest new additions to the Big List, that always helps. :)

It’s a BA in Theatre Arts, with a concentration in MT.

[State University of New York New Paltz - School of Fine and Performing Arts - Theatre > Academics > Curriculum](<a href=“Performance | SUNY New Paltz”>Performance | SUNY New Paltz)

<a href=“Admission | SUNY New Paltz”>Admission | SUNY New Paltz;

I’m sorry, but I don’t really view the program at SUNY New Paltz as having a concentration in MT. Rather, I see the curriculum for the Theatre Arts major which outlines the course of study. It suggests what courses a student is who interested in MT could take to pursue that interest. It also mentions other facets of the Theater Arts Curriculum such as movement, voice/speech, acting. There doesn’t seem to be a formal MT major, track, concentration, or minor. They have some coursework available in voice and dance.

I don’t think we can list every college theater BA program (there are thousands) that also have MT/voice and dance classes within the department.

Hey CollegeMom! I don’t see Southwestern University (Georgetown, Texas - just north of Austin) anywhere on there. They offer a BFA in Musical Theater but the audition is just for scholarships. It is a nice school - was in the top of my D’s list.

[Southwestern University: Sarofim School of Fine Arts: Theatre Department: Majoring & Minoring: Bachelor of Fine Arts](http://www.southwestern.edu/departments/theatre/majoring/bfa.php)

(thanks for doing this, CollegeMom!!)

OH also - I don’t see Nebraska Wesleyan University on there. It sounds like a pretty cool program. D’s mono struck just at the time we were going to visit so we never ended up getting there - alas- I was curious to see it in person.

BFA musical theater.

Thanks, snapdragonfly.

I knew about Southwestern University’s program but never noticed it wasn’t on the Big List.

I had never heard of Nebraska Wesleyan’s program before. From what I can tell, the audition there is just for scholarships. I’m not 100% sure and so if you are familiar with that program and I am incorrect, let me know.

My understanding is that audition is for scholarships. They were at the NTDA auditions but there were quite a few schools who held auditions only for scholarship at that. It was high on the list of program safeties for us so at some point they must have confirmed that it was audition for money only, though I can’t recall the conversation.
(it was a long year…lol)

Everything I could tell about it looked promising and the conversations on the phone and at NTDA were good. Wish we could have visited and had more to share.

I noticed that a student at my S’s high school is going to a school called Five Towns College in Dix Hills, NY, as a MT major. So I looked it up. You can go as a Theater Arts BFA where MT is part of the program or BM in Jazz/Commercial music with a concentration in MT Vocals. Audition required for both programs.

[FTC: Academics](http://www.ftc.edu/Academic/aca_jazz.html)

When we first started looking we had no idea how many schools offered MT, it was a very interesting experience

Santa Fe University of Art and Design in New Mexico has a BFA theater with a concentration in MT

caramello…take a look at POST #2 on this thread of the Big List of MT Colleges. You will see Santa Fe University of Art and Design listed under New Mexico. POST #2 is the most updated version of the Big List. ;)

hmmm…thought I scrolled down to the second list, but guess not. sorry!

Look what I just stumbled upon.

[Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre): Victorian College of the Arts](<a href=“Victorian College of the Arts | About | UniMelb”>Victorian College of the Arts | About | UniMelb)

Hi Collegemom!

I just wanted to add a few notes. Catawba College in NC does require auditions into the BFA Musical Theatre program. You don’t need to audition for the BA program.
Also, I just graduated from Indian River State College in Florida with my AA in Musical Theatre. I’d be cool if you added that to your list
Thanks!! :D

Please add Auburn University (Auburn, AL) BFA Musical Theatre (enter BA as Freshman, reaudition later for entrance into BFA)

What about the University OF Evansville? Is this NOT a musical theatre BFA?

Unless they have recently added a concentration in Musical Theatre, and have not yet updated their website, University of Evansville’s program in the Department of Theatre has concentrations in Theatre Performance, Theatre Design and Technology, Theatre Generalist, Theatre Management, Stage Management. – [University of Evansville Department of Theatre](http://theatre.evansville.edu/prospective/)

A couple of notes:

Minnesota State University/Mankato offers an audition-required BFA/Musical Theatre Concentration

Southwest Missouri State is now called Missouri State
