Big Ten expansion moves ahead

MSauce, other than Missouri, I think all the other schools being considered by the Big 10 (Maryland, Notre Dame, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Texas and Texas A&M) would more than earn their share.

Alex, if the Big Ten were targeting Texas and A&M, why don’t we have rumors from school sources saying this is happening? It’s only been Pac-10 and SEC. Big Ten should get off its butt if it wants the Texas schools.

“Alex, if the Big Ten were targeting Texas and A&M, why don’t we have rumors from school sources saying this is happening?”

There are rumors UCB. Remember the OSU email that referred to the “Tech problem”? That’s pretty convincing proof that the Big 10 is talking to Texas.

Delany would be crazy if he were not approaching UT-Austin and Notre Dame as his #1 priority. I am willing to bet he is on the phone with the decision-makers at those two universities on a very frequent basis.

However, whatever diologue is taking place is definitely very confidential and secretive.

What will happen remains to be seen. Texas will either go for the Pac 10 or the Big 10. If Texas A&M and Oklahoma decide to join Colorado and head for the Pac 10, I am pretty certain that Texas will follow. However, if Texas A&M decides to go for the SEC, things start to fall apart and the Big 10 becomes a very real and appealing option for Texas.

This was supposed to be a long process, ending sometime in late 2010 or even going into 2011. But the Pac 10’s unexpected proposision has moved things along nicely. All shall be revealed in the next two weeks or so.

When the cloud settles, I expect Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M will all join the Pac 10 and Notre Dame, Pitt, Rutgers and Syracuse will all join the Big 10.

If you mean financially, only ND and UT would be “HRs.”

It may not make sense financially for the B10 to expand to 16 w/o both ND and UT.

I totally agree k&s. The Big 10 should remain a 12-team conference unless the 13th team is either Notre Dame or Texas. If one of those programs decides to join, adding a couple others from major markets such as Pittsburgh or NJ would make sense.

Along with Michigan State and Pitt!! :)

Quote:

And on 25 November 1945, just a few months after the war’s conclusion, Hannah wrote to the Big Ten requesting admission. Shortly thereafter, Michigan State received its opening: early in 1946, the University of Chicago dropped its intercollegiate sports programs and withdrew from the Big Ten. The conference began considering three replacements: the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Nebraska, and MSC.

If memory serves, didn’t Michigan block MSU’s entry into the Big 10?! ;)

^^ Yeah, Michigan certainly did!!! Obviously, failed… ;p

Thanks to…Father Cavanaugh of Notre Dame’s support!! lol

^^ The enemy of my enemy is my friend!! Little could he (Father Cavanaugh) have predicted that State’s relationship with ND kind of gone sour after ‘The Game of the Century’ in '66.

Anyway, Frank The Tank’s new post:

I am hoping that Texas A&M goes to the SEC. If that happens, I think Texas will end up joining the Big 10. If Texas joins the Big 10, the Irish will follow. Can you imagine the money each Big 10 team would stand to make with three football powerhouses (Nebraska, Notre Dame and Texas) joining a league that already has three football powerhouses (Michigan, OSU and PSU)? Imagine the possibilies!

But honestly, I don’t see it happening.

I don’t blame Michigan for trying to block MSC(U) from admittance. Look at what happens when you only have one B10 in a state the size of Ohio. No competition!

STOP THE PRESSES: COLORADO AND NEBRASKA VIOLATED BIG12 bi-laws. BIG TROUBLE! And antitrust claims are mounting against BCS, NCAA, Big10, PAC10 and more.

They had to give notice of intent to leave the league in June 2009. They didnt. Penalty? Total disgorgement of revenues for 2 years. OUCH!

Good! Now just get ND and be done with it!

If that happens, I think A&M would be very ****ed. A&M’s first choice is the Big Ten - not the SEC (for academic reasons). A&M is only looking at the SEC option because they think they fit culturally better with it vs. the Pac-10…if a Big Ten offer to A&M were on the table, they’d be strongly considering it.

Yet, none of the Texas and A&M message board insiders say the Big Ten has offered anything to Texas and A&M.

I am sure the the Texas/Texas A&M offer has been made UCB. Delaney would be foolish not to have do so.

This morning, Texas plans to stay in the Big XII.
[Texas Longhorns Football: Orangebloods.com - Texas Football](http://texas.rivals.com/)

If so, Pac-10 will probably add Utah and been done expanding at 12.

Alex, perhaps he is foolish…Texas insiders have not mentioned anything about an offer from the Big Ten.

Very interesting! hehe! I guess we will soon know for sure.

Texas A&M fans still wanna go to the SEC. They don’t want Texas to hold even more power in a crippled league with their own TV station. You’re right, we’ll soon know for sure. :)

A&M rumors are that Texas committing to the Big XII is a ploy…if Texas A&M decides to jump ship to the SEC, then they look like the bad guys for putting the death knell on the Big XII…Haha! Ah, politics…
