Binghamton Class of 2024 Thread

We received the same email and my daughter is Harpur. I’m guessing it’s all schools combined.

If one of the admitted student days aren’t Computer Science specific, do they have a program where you can attend a Computer Science class or go on a CS specific tour?

@bey456cp I know others who applied EA and still haven’t heard - I don’t understand because I thought the deadline was 1/15. Could someone call the admissions office and find out what’s going on and post it here?

Hello everyone… I was wondering if anyone knew of people that were accepted into the Decker school of Nursing and not deferred? Heard about a lot of deferrals and was wondering how many students out of the EA pool we’re actually accepted.

@twins758 I got in with the guaranteed transfer and here’s what I heard from a call with the admissions office. They had ~3000 applicants and accepted ~170 (150 straight in and 20 guaranteed transfer) so around a 5% acceptance rate. They aren’t entirely sure if they’ll take anyone in the RD pool from what I gathered, but I guess we’ll see.

Does anyone know when Bing starts posting decisions for those who applied RD? Or if they’ve already started, how long it usually takes to receive a decision?

Has anyone received invitations for the Scholars Program yet? I was accepted in December. 1540 SAT and 4.0 UW/4.2 W GPA. I know they say they start sending invitations around now but I haven’t heard from anyone receiving one yet

Not here, but DS got a 1410. He received a provost scholarship, but not sure if it’d warrant an invite to university scholars as well?

@deluxeyears
Were you accepted into Decker via guaranteed transfer?
I am a little confused about that whole thing, my daughter applied to Decker but was accepted to Harper with guaranteed transfer option for Fall of 2021.
Does it truly mean that if she meets the conditions stated she is automatically tranferred in? Or does she now compete against all the others looking to transfer as well with no true guarantee of getting in?

@twins758 I was accepted straight into Decker (not guaranteed transfer). I’ve only heard of a few other people who were also accepted though. I’m guessing once people start declining offers they’ll accept more?

DS didnt get any scholarships from Bing but as an instate student it’s still going to be cheaper than going to any other OOS public school or private school because merit aid from OOS or private school will bring the cost down to around $35,000 to $50,000 including room and board per year. Bing tuition and dorm will equal $27,000. So as a typical donut hole family where we don’t qualify for financial aid…do we want to spend an extra $32-92K over four years to learn basically the same stuff?

Bing rarely (if at all) give any scholarships to in-state students. I guess they do this to attract OOS students. You can lookup NYS STEM scholarship if you are going to major in a STEM related field. They will cover your tuition so you only have to pay for room and board. The only condition is, you have to live and work in NY for 4 or 5 years (I forgot) after graduating.

DEFERRED QUESTION: Anyone know when will RD applicants start hearing? We were deferred and Bing sent a very nice follow-up email the night of the deferral, The email showed interest and advised us to keep Binghamton on the top of our list. I’m wondering if everybody who was deferred got that same email.

My son also got a similar after sending an email expressing his continued interest to his admissions counselor. I’m hoping we hear something soon!

When are RD decisions going to start coming out?

My daughter got accepted after getting a "your application has been updated’ at 7:15pm last night. She is in-state because her father lives there with 50% custody but possibly out-of-state for her first year as she went to high school in Florida. She applied mid-december. She had a 1430 superscored, a 3.6 recalculated academic GPA and a 4.27 weighted. She is a fantastic writer and her essays were on fire. Her hook, if it is actually a hook, is that she is a “trans man” who prefers a male name and pronouns (I may be in denial), very involved in LGBTQ+ clubs and issues. She was also accepted to Pittsburgh, Temple, Marist, FAU and New Haven. No rejections yet but very big’uns ahead.

My Son got got accepted after getting a "your application has been updated’ at 7:15pm last night. But there was mention of any scholarship or financial aid, would that come separately or does this mean that he didn’t get any. Please advice

I meant there was NO mention of any scholarship or financial aid

i guess decisions are rolling out…can’t wait for this waiting game to be over…

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted last night! I guess that means that they’re starting to release decisions now. For those who already got their decisions, did you notice a change in the portal beforehand? Some users mentioned a disappearing test section/checklist.
