Thanks! He applied in Jan. When my older son with similar stats but a lower GPA applied three years ago, he received the acceptance within two weeks of submitting the application, followed by a full scholarship and Honors program. I honestly thought the little one might not be accepted because of the long wait and because CS is super competitive this year.
I also find it alarming that my son had 3 different admissions counselors assigned to him on the portal since he applied. I was told in each case the previous counselor moved on to other roles. While I understand that staff turnover can happen, I sure hope they aren’t leaving because they are overworked and tired. It is kind unfair that the rapport he established with his previous counselors goes out the window. I am sure they all share notes but leaves me with an uneasy feeling.
Note. Was at Binghamton today for a tour. The admission officer who started the day off before the tour said he was still looking at applications right before he spoke to us.
I’m sure there’s top quality analysis going on this point.
I am posting this here from another Bing thread because it is relevant to your comment…
I am of the same opinion as you. It almost feels like a lottery at this point. There was a mass wave of waitlists that went out yesterday. I don’t understand how schools like NYU/BU/Lehigh/Brandeis and many, many others are capable of giving a definitive release date and with Bing it is so random. If they want to be on the same level as those schools, then they need to up their admissions game and refine their process. They are multiple steps behind in efficiency.
To the moderators reading this post…this is not a “hate thread” towards Bing nor are we bitter (still waiting for a response from Bing to be honest) as my kid got into far more competitive schools with far lower acceptance rates. This rant is to express my opinion (and I am sure of many others) at how mismanaged and how poorly this was all handled by Bing. Makes one wonder if the rest of the services they offer are subpar as well.
With more and more people wisening up on not taking massive student debt, value based places like Bing are getting more attractive. Bing know that and I think they are optimistic more will accept this year.
Residency Status Question…hope it is ok to post here!
Daughter was just accepted (OOS). She lost residency status as we made a temporary move to NJ in January. We are returning to NY in June. Her father lives in NY and we have shared custody, but I claim her on my taxes. Could she get residency for the upcoming school year through her father or no, because he does not claim her as a dependent? Very unclear from the website. She has received some nice packages from several elite schools, so unlikely she would attend Bing for 60k a year. Would def be in the top choices if she got residency status, though. I guess it would only be a year as an OOS student, but still…60k for a SUNY, yikes!
Yes and no in my opinion because Bing gives very little aid and privates tend to give much more. My son was accepted to very high end private schools which would be the same cost or cheaper than Bing.
Has anyone see any activity? We are only a few days away from 4/1. Just wondering.
I posted on the EA board since my daughter was deferred - notice in her portal today - a guaranteed Spring admission. I had assumed she prob wouldn’t get in at all.
My DD the same, spring admission after deferred from EA
Wow so they are splitting up the decisions between fall and spring. It must have really been a huge uptic in applicants.
Same! Just heard tonight… Spring guarantee, waitlist for fall if something opens up.
Didn’t they say 52,000? Unbelievable
My S20 was a spring admit for Spring 2021. The day after he decided to do it, he got a call for Fall 2020. But that the spring of COVID and no one knew what the fall would be like.so kept Spring 2021. I think the spring class was about 150. (S20 ended up not going Spring 2021, but instead Fall 2021 for a semester).
daughter was offered the advantage program. Passing and deposited at UDel.
