This is on the orienation site: “Every newly admitted student who has paid his/her admissions’ deposit should receive an invitation from the Orientation Office starting in the middle of May. (Invitations are continuously mailed to students and families beginning at the middle of May.) Simply visit the Beginnings website (orientation.binghamton.edu) to complete the registration and payment form. If you do not receive an invitation via postal mail by May 31, please contact our office so we may assist you either over the phone (607-777-2878) or through email (orientation@binghamton.edu).”

Is there any major difference between the Aug. and July orientations except the fact that the July one is purely freshman? I sorta booked all plans around the Aug one cuz i didnt notice that there was a freshman only orientation also. saw fall/spring orientation and thought thats where i was supposed to go.

I do not believe that the orientations are different. There are certain ones for students in different schools I believe but I think the staff and orientation advisors cover the same material. For more information as to dates and stuff please visit: [Beginnings - Binghamton University New Student Information](<a href=“Orientation | New Student Programs | Binghamton University”>http://orientation.binghamton.edu/)

Are transfer students likely to be tripled up in dorms?

There is a possibility that both incoming freshmen as well as transfers can wind up in triples. There will be no way of knowing if you will be in a triple until August. Here is the link to the reslife site in which it talks about triples: [Binghamton University - Residential Life - Future Students - Temporary Triples and Lounges](http://reslife.binghamton.edu/future-students/temporary-triple.html)

I see. Do triples usually stay that way for a while? What’s the average amount of time people stay tripled?

Reslife will not move anyone from their placement for at least 2 weeks from the beginning of the semester. These two weeks are intended to give those students who were assigned the doubles, but who don’t show up on the first day, enough time to keep their rooms. If and when reslife finds out if there are availabilities due to students changing their minds about dorming or attending the university in general, they will first move people out of triples then start moving people who put their names on waitlists to switch communities. So technically the amount of time can range from 2 weeks to a semester. Generally by the end of the fall semester reslife, due to upperclassmen either moving off campus or going abroad, will have enough spots allowing for triples to be separated.

At least triples are better than no dorm at all… at a lot of schools, triples are standard, even in rooms that seem too small (especially in NYC).

I want to change my major from CS to Bioengineering but im not sure if i should try and talk to admissions now or do it at orientation. Which would be the better option, or something i havent thought of?

Also, I was wondering what time the orientation starts? im coming from LI so if it starts early id have to be there sunday night.

I believe that you need to wait at least one semester before you can change your major. This may vary by department so I would recommend talking to the advisors at Watson during orientation. I do not know the official start time for Orientation but I do know that the first things you do are things like setting up your bank account, getting your ID card, etc., things which allow you to be flexible as to when you get there. Staying over the night before in a hotel if you are coming with your parents is probably a good idea. During orientation you will have the opportunity to meet with advisors from Watson and they should be able to answer all your questions.

around what time is check in?

I don’t know the schedule. You will have to contact the orientation office. Their number can be found at orientation.binghamton.edu

Is the Political Science program good? If so, what makes it good?

I have a bookshelf that’s about 3 and a half feet in height and 2 feet in width. Would it be a problem if I were to bring that on campus?

Political Science is ranked 19th in the world, I’m pretty sure it’s very respectable with a good rep

Duong - No one will stop you from bringing it but it honestly may not fit in your room. The rooms are pretty small and they usually can fit what is provided.

Do we get our own room at orientation?

You will not be staying in your own room for orientation unless you are at the orientation in August, right before classes start. Otherwise you will most likely be in College in the Woods for the two days of orientation.

I meant do we room alone or have a roomate for the night?
