<p>hello,
student transfering from a college into ucla as a chem major. </p>
<p>Im starting to have doubts for chemistry, and now i want to go into biochemistry instead. To my understanding, they do not allow any transfers to change their major to an impacted one after transferring (l&s). However, the chemistry major is in the same department as the biochemistry major. Would an interdepartmental transfer change anything?</p>
<p>I've seen people weave through the system. I mean, you have all the chem requirements done(I am assuming you don't have bio done).Sso it should'nt be hard to switch, in terms of the few extra classes you might have to take. Just ask the department counselour during orientation.</p>
<p>I'm also transferring into UCLA, and am interested in switching to biochem from MIMB(pre). I emailed the chemistry department and they said that "you can
petition to change major after your first quarter's grades have
posted. Drop by our office after your Fall grades post, fill out a petition
to change major, and we will evaluate your DPR."</p>
<p>well, I asked about switching to biochem specifically, and that is what I was told. Here's what I said:</p>
<p>"I was accepted as a junior transfer this upcoming fall for the
pre-Microbio, Immunology, & Molecular Genetics major; however, I would
like to change to the Biochemistry major. I know that Biochem is an
impacted major, so would this be possible? Is there any requirements
that must be met in order to change?"</p>
<p>Response:
"You can petition to change major after your first quarter's grades have
posted. Drop by our office after your Fall grades post, fill out a petition
to change major, and we will evaluate your DPR.</p>
<p>I have attached the biochemistry requirements. You will notice that several
of the classes that are required for MIMG are also required or accepted as
an elective for Biochemistry. Depending on what classes you are eligible to
enroll into for the Fall quarter, you can probably take at least one class
that will fulfill a Biochemistry requirement that also fulfills an MIMG
requirement.</p>
<p>thanks for the info peachy,
thats good, so you can change to biochem after transfer? </p>
<p>once fall is over, ill have two quarters of o-chem, one quarter of bio, full year of physics, full year of math (plus linear systems), and all of general chemistry done. Will they still consider me if i dont have the second quarter of bio, life sci 3? and Chem 30B? </p>
