Black Friday deals (and Cybermonday, too!)

I admit to enjoying many destinations even more in the off season. Far easier to enjoy like a local.

@showmom858 When you visited Paris in January, did you primarily visit museums, restaurants, etc.? One of my concerns about any winter trip (unless skiing), is that the daylight hours are so restricted. We like to “wander” cities, and hike the surrounding areas. Cold is no problem, but the limited daylight might be.

None of these mention The Roku Channel deals, which is where I got the $1/month MGM+ mentioned earlier. Some of the streaming deals, I think are better options include the following. I am going by memory, so there may be some minor errors.

  1. Hulu – $1/month or Hulu+Disney for $3/month (better than last year)
  2. Paramount+/Showtime (no commercials) – Unlimited free trials. I cancelled my free trial this weekend, and was offered an additional 2 months free.
  3. Apple+ – 3-4 month free trial. At least 5 vendors are currently offering 3-4 month free trials. I got my previous one at Best Buy (months ago)
  4. Peacock – $2/month or $20/year (worse than last year)
  5. HBO Max – $3/month for 6 months
  6. Starz – $1/month via Hulu add on or Roku Channel add on
  7. AMC+ – $1.25/month via Amazon Prime Channel add on
  8. Cinemax – $2/month via Roku Channel add on
  9. MGM+ – $1/month via Roku Channel add on
  10. Britbox – $2.25/month via Amazon Prime channel add on

I don’t have a ROKU, but just signed back up for the Hulu offer on an email not previously used and added on the $2.00/month Disney+. My $1.99/month Disney is expiring 12/8 so I will cancel renewal on that and continue with the new email account.

Interested in the Apple deal - do you know specific vendors offering it this year?

For people in the San Diego area (or visiting here), Triton Charters is selling $20 vouchers. They can be exchanged anytime for tickets, no expiration. It’s a pleasant catamaran tour around San Diego Bay, leaving from the Shelter Island area. We’ve done it twice, once mid-afternoon and once at sunset.

If anyone is looking for family train tickets, Amtrak has a good deal for larger families.

Amtrak Share Fares make it easy to bring the whole crew by helping you save with each plus one. The more family, friends, loved ones you bring, the more you all save.

Share Fares provides a group discount of up to 60% off tickets for 8 passengers traveling together on the same reservation. Here’s how the discount works:

  • Passenger 1 – full price (or lowest available fare)
  • Groups of 2 – full price (or lowest available fare)
  • Groups of 3 – 17% off all tickets
  • Groups of 4 – 30% off all tickets
  • Groups of 5 – 39% off all tickets
  • Groups of 6 – 47% off all tickets
  • Groups of 7 – 54% off all tickets
  • Groups of 8 – 60% off all tickets

Saving up to 60% gives you more to spend on an exciting adventure with your favorite people by your side.

Share Fares are available on Coach seats on most Amtrak routes, including popular routes like the Northeast Regional, Empire Builder, Auto Train, Downeaster, Palmetto and California Zephyr. The offer is also available in Acela Business Class. So, get the whole group together to share the ride and the savings.

Discount applied automatically when qualifying travel is selected from this page or apply code V291 on the Amtrak app. A 2-day advance purchase is required.

Just found it here and signed up:

We visited many museums when we went to Paris in the winter, but still had lots of time to enjoy walking the city. I don’t recall that the shorter daylight hours were a problem.

Just bought 3 omniheat women’s fleece blue vests–one for me, one for D and one for my sister who is always cold. They are so cozy but don’t show that you’re wearing it because you’re freezing.

I have some Souper cubes already (2 cups) but purchased the two pack, 2TB cubes (because I’d like to freeze small amounts for things like smoothies) and the stoneware (2 cup).

I like to freeze portions of chili and thought I’d try the stoneware baking dish.

Edited to add: And tomorrow’s BOGO 50% off is for ultimate gift sets. Sunday’s deal is for certain bundles. Monday is a free utensil set w/ $65 purchase. I was looking for specific things to augment what I already own.

I’ve gotten apple free subscriptions over the past few years from Best Buy, sprint/tmobile, and target circle (just the free “loyalty” account, not the credit card - look under “partner deals” or something similar). Sometimes more than once each, if it was a new and different offer from the one I used before. Sadly, I think I’ve exhausted my free trials and actually had to pay for a month recently to see the end of a show I’d started.

Thank you I got it! It took a couple hours but all the emails came/processed
