Book Awards

Today I recieved a book award from St. Micheal's College for Outstanding Community Service and Academics. Not such a great school/never heard of it when some others got from top schools like Harvard, Yale, Cornell, etc... Does it still look good even though it isn't from a good school? If you get one from a good school, does it automatically mean special consideration or something?

Anyone else get some?

My friend got the St. Michael's book award last year.. and she will be a freshman there next year. I know that for her it didn't change much admissions wise, but it did help her to get some extra money from St. Mike's. So I don't think it really means special consideration... but it doesn't hurt to have it!

Hey I got the St. Michael's one as well when I was a junior! But I'm not going there next year. At my school there didn't really seem like there was much of a difference between getting the Harvard Book Award or the Wellesley College Book Award or any of the others.

It doesn't mean any special consideration, but I think it does look good on an application.

I don't even exactly understand what these mean completely. I think to be recognized for anything is great though. I'm sure it's not THAT significant but I imagine if you wanted to go to the school and they see you got one of their awards it'd be just a little extra thing.

I got the Wellesley one at my school this year, and it was just terribly confusing. I was really excited about it, but there are a lot of people in my class with higher averages and just better overall records than I do.

I want to go to Wellesley SO BAD and I didn't get it. Some girl who doesn't even know what Wellesley is got it. I was so angry. But hey, I got an award anyway.

I got the Washington University (in stl) Book Award. our school only gave out about 5, it's weird though becuase the books aren't given according to rank, as in most presitgious harvard, to like the smith award. anyone know how they decide??

I got Harvard Book award but thats mainly because it always goes to the person ranked number 1 in our class. The number 2 person gets Yale (because the Harvard Book award comes with some sort of breakfast in Cambridge in the fall (I'm going to be one of the few to attend from the people who have gotten the award)). The rest are given by a commitee who base their decisions on certain traits and such.

I got the Dartmouth Book Award at our junior awards two weeks ago.
