Haha. I liked how someone on one of the first few pages suggested Lord of the Flies AND Their Eyes Were Watching God - the only two books I've read this summer! I've really enjoyed them both, though. Just finished LotF a few hours ago. I really, really loved it. But, I can see how those of you who read it in class dislike it! I borrowed it from a friend and there was so much scribbled in the margins of the book from class.. and so much highlited.. it was a bit annoying, I almost wanted to give it back to her and just go find a clean copy. BUT her notes did actually help me understand some of the parallels to the Bible for original sin and what-not. Interesting.

Yeah, I'm another one who would never ever burn a book. BUT... some books I'm not too fond of:
-Gatbsy. Maybe because everyone stresses how absolutley perfect it is. I'm going to give Fitzgerald another shot, though, but the first time I read it I didn't like it at all. I LOATHED the characters and the super-obvious symbolism. Honestly. "Yellow eyes on a billboard overlooking a grungy Valley! Symbol alert! Green light, green light! This is a symbol!"

-House on Mango Street. We had to read it in Junior English. I hated it. For one, Cisneros is way too unstructured for my liking... (which is odd because I'm giving Vonnegut a chance and liking it- and his writing is anything but structured!)... not to mention it doesn't seem like she likes men very much. Plus we skipped around in the book and it didn't make any sense to me.

The Awakening....blechchchchch....seems like my lit teacher chose all girl books last year...........and JAne Austin blechchchchh

Why do these teen classics like A Separate Peace and Lord of the Flies, and the Outsiders live on? because the school systems have so many copies? They were never great literature when they were written. The best book we read in school was Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. And kids should read some great stylish non fiction too like Soul of a New Machine or Latitude or The Orchid Thief.

The Da Vinci Code is a tv show. It's just written down on paper. I don't know about the crazy people who are complaining about lies and slander against religion and whatnot...because it's just a tv show...

silas marner eewewewewehhhhh.....how about ethan Fromm....gagggggggd. What book is absolutely the worst?......oh yeah....the Scarlet Letter!!! davinci code was a good summer trash book......try mysteries by George Pelecanos...he's from DC and writes awsome crime/mysteries set in DC.

The Scarlet Letter...
Moby Dick...
Anything that has to do with shakespeare
Anything with too much symbolism
Walden--by Thoreau
and my...Lit Textbooks

"If I catch any of you little nazis burning my books I'll burn you!"
Okay James Joyce, The Odyssey, holy shiot, that book took me like 7 months to read it sucked so bad.

The DaVinci Code is bad. Clive Cussler books are 100% more entertaining, they aren't 1000 pages, and there are tons of them. Dan Brown is more of a storyteller than an author and it's pretty evident in his books. Someone said White Fang ealier in the board, you have problems. If you can't get into Jack London books, I pity you in college english classes.

ok i love books but "O Pioneers" is SOOOOOOOOOOO boring and bad. "My Antonia" is a little better but wow I just don't like Willa Cather. And Ethan Frome sucks.
