Bored, I guess I'll "chance" you if you chance me...

is there any way we can know ucla decisions by april 15 this year on myucla?

I WISH. Ughhhh.

cheeser: The following quote: “Answer: The application is broken down as follows: 50% Grades & Coursework, 35% Essays and 15% Resume/extra-curricular activities.” Was on the Haas undergrad. site and was meant for Haas applicants only. I have not seen anything else similarly quoted for L&S at Cal or UCLA.

After reading an article about admissions posted by a CC’er, I think that there is a bit of luck into how your personal statement gets evaluated. What I mean by that is there is a chance certain aspects about yourself might appeal to the reader on a personal level ( For example sharing a common/similar hardship or goal ). The reader might have had a great day or a terrible day when reading your personal statements… With that said, it’s hard to say what separates a weak personal statement from a strong personal statement. I am not a admissions officer so I cannot answer that question for you. We’ve all read compelling books that have touched us on a personal level, I guess that is what UC admissions officers look for also? Who knows. As far as ECs go, don’t worry too much about AGS and not being awarded. I also believe HS ECs are not factored into a transfer app? I hope this answers your questions.

Also to 65564123416874613216876841321452469789845142 and grey: I don’t believe in peddling false hope. There are plenty of statistics gathered about UC transfer students to give an objective “chance” to those who ask for it. There is also plenty of anecdotal evidence from previous years to also inspire those who do not have the most competitive GPA from a statistical stand point.

nikijon, again thankyou for the clarifications. I have one side note however, when I stated my EC, it asked me to put my activities I did 5 years up to the date, so I am hoping they do count, let’s see. Also, wow I was assuming that the essays were graded on that factor. I don’t really know how can someone write a bad essay specially being in college you know. The only way I can think about someone writing a bad essay is that there is a lot of grammar mistakes, or disrorganization but since it’s an autobiography and there is no right or wrong answer I don’t see why someone would write a terrible essay what do you think? and as far as HASS goes, then now I understand why it’s suicide to get in.

chesser, not trying to be a dick but it’s haas not hass

nikijon, thanks for butchering my sn (jk :)) I understand what you’re saying and I know how useless ‘chance me’s’ are…but they give ppl (at least me) and outside opinion about their situation…i dunno i guess it doesn’t really matter one way or another

6523 we’re not perfect, I wouldn’t have needed the clarification from your part

again their chesser, not trying to offend…just correcting an incorrect spelling

(but if you didn’t need the clarification, why misspell the word?)

well your not my parent or my professor to be clarifying what I misspell. again, I am not perfect neither are you. good luck to everything you do. It’s not the perfect time to get into an argument about some misspelling. Let’s please not get into this discussion any further.

lol…fair enough ;)

btw if you don’t mind, what are your stats?

Did your TAP rep help you much for cal?

Yes they help me a lot especially for my essay and some part on the application.
However, until now I don’t get any invitation letter from cal or UCLA (except those scholarship email), so I am so worried now~

It doesn’t seem like anyone from L&S majors got an invite to any event yet yanlau920.

The invites for UCLA have been for theater and arts dep.

Cal has been inviting people from the CNR dep.

nijikon, thank you for telling me that. These days I read those threads and concerned why just me don’t get the email? Haha~ but it seems I just worried too much.

^
Yes, you’re worrying too much. LOL. I got that scholarship e-mail for the interviews, but doesn’t bring my hopes up because I know that admissions and the Alums are separate departments! If anything, I think you totally have a better shot than I do. >__<;; So don’t worry! [:

Well, Here goes…

Applied to: UCLA, Berkeley, UCSD (accepted there)

I have the same GPA, but Econ is more competitive, hopefully they’ll like your EC’s and essay.
Last years average admits to UCLA w/ econ had a 3.82

70% Cal
75% UCLA

chance me back

nijikon5,
I don’t really care whether or not you’re into peddling false hope, but just to humor us, re-read my statement and you will see that all I said was that most people prefer false hope. Whether or not it applies to me or you doesn’t matter. Notice I never threw myself into the mix. All in all, my statement is validated by all the chance-me’s.

Hey, they DO definitely count in your AP scores if you had any, right? Like, if it said I had 50 recorded units on the application, they WILL count the ten AP units that were also recorded on the app, even though those units aren’t stated with the classes, right?

chance me!

GPA:3.9
Major: History
EC:Competive Figure Skating, 40+ hours a week for work, Food Not Bombs co-founder in my area.
Applied to: CAl, UCLA, UCSC.
