Boston College Early Decision. Class of 2025

They’ve recently come out the third Thursday of March, so this coming year that would be March 18.

Gotcha, thanks! Although maybe they’ll release differently because of Covid? I wouldn’t hate knowing a bit earlier

Hey there. I’ve seen a few posts from you,and wondered if you’d answer a question regarding applying to BC. I’d be applying ED next year, currently a junior. Coming from NC. 3.9uw, 1510(740v770m) publishing Econ paper in reputable journal currently in final draft. Good ec’s.and rigor

My question is about the 40+% accepted Ed with scores. Is your take that the majority accepted was test optional, and is there a drawback with a 1510 considering the application would be strong. I wondered if schools could benefit, taking high scores,(1540 etc)while filling the majority of Ed with applicants including athletes, legacy etc as test optional candidates . It was an interesting percentage to me one that was unexpected even knowing the difficulty of taking the test( had two cancelled and it’s difficult to ramp back up for the studying of them) anyway any insight would be appreciated, I’d apply csom

Thanks for insight.

Does anyone know what deferral admit rates are? My college counselor told me they weren’t looking for good test scores in ED (I had a 34) so hopefully they become more important in RD… they deferred a bunch of kids with a lack of APs before senior year like me, and I have an A- average in all my APs so far. I plan to send a good Letter of continued interest.

Although the question was posed to @privatebanker, I can say that your SAT will definitely not hold you back. I had no advantages whatsoever (athletics or legacy) and I am an Asian male (people consider that to be a disadvantage in admissions), but I still submitted my 1450 SAT. My stats are lower than yours, but my EC’s were pretty strong. Regardless, submitting a 1510 SAT score will definitely not hurt you if I got in by submitting a 1450.

Hey there. Thank you for the reply. It was interesting data this year regarding a higher acceptance of nontest takers. But I agree,I had to really work for that SAT and believe it’s representative of my overall application information. Thanks again

It’s impossible to know. But you have a strong profile. Just be honest in your evaluation. The ap classes are excellent but how did you do overall and where do sit in your class relatively. Even if not ranked are you top 5 10 or 15 percent?

How are your recommendations. Unless you see them it’s hard to really know. Are they generic or super.

How was your writing and essay.

The 34 is right there and strong.

However someone in the top 15 percent with. 3.7 uw and a 34 is strong but not a “shoe in”.

The intangibles will matter. Location, background (ie. If you are a white female from a Nj Catholic school is more difficult than the same student from Oregon etc, which college and teacher recs.

All important.

Don’t be nervous. Be confident and apply to many great schools and know that you will attend one and be a star. That’s the better approach

Thanks for the response. I applied to other schools as well, but I can’t give up on my dream yet. My school doesn’t provide rank, but for unweighted it is probably up there. I don’t want to sound bragging but my counselor said my LORs were phenomenal. I don’t really know how to grade my essays. My common app essay is cool I think, I quoted doc Hudson from cars to prove a point lol. My supplement was definitely unique.

You definately shouldn’t give up at all.

You could easily be accepted. Or you could get a wait list and then be accepted.

That happened a lot last year tbh.

Be confident. If it happens you’re stoked. If not you’re still good.

No one can assure you but you are in fantastic shape from a life perspective.

The issue can be state you come from and how many applying to the same program.

Thanks so much. I will send in a strong letter of continued interest. I can let you know of the decision in a couple months too.

Is the ED 2 acceptance rate lower than the ED 1 acceptance rate?

It is difficult to know the deferral admit rate given that this data is not published. I got deferred last year and am a freshman at BC now. The fact that you applied ED is a factor that will differentiate you from all of those who applied regular.

Congrats bro. We’ll se I gotta keep my grades up for sure.

Some additional info from BC letter to HS counselors from last year spring for fall 2020 class of 2024. FYI The data suggests 700 or so ed1 and 300 or so Ed 2 last year. The acceptance rates for both were above 30 percent. As you see overall was 22% so you can guess how competitive rd was. But they still went to the waiting list a lot more than recent past and also deferred that we’re accepted I’m not sure if they counted in rd numbers or rolled back into Ed.

“This year, Boston College received approximately 29,400 applications for 2,325 openings in the Class of 2024. As shared in a previous communication, 1,000 spaces were filled via Early Decision when we admitted 37% of ED applicants. This left 1,325 openings to be filled from a Regular Decision pool of 26,700.
The Regular Decision admit rate is 22%. The mean composite SAT for Regular Decision admits is 1467 and the mean composite ACT score is 34. Admitted students hail from 49 US states, 2 US territories, and are citizens of 78 countries.
We will offer a place on the waiting list to a little more than 6,500 students. While a waiting list of this size feels large, we feel it necessary given the many uncertainties facing our profession and society this year.
Today at 10:39 am”. Posted from bc thread last year.

I highly suggest you search and read the threads especially around rd. For stats of those admitted and deferred or Wl. And how it worked out.

Hey there. Not sure if you saw my post but I was wondering your thoughts on the percentage of test optional vs test submitted students in ED. I’m considering ED next year with a 1510 sat.

I suppose my question is,if my other aspects of m6 application are strong, does a 1510 negate that in any way? I just wonder the stats of test optional students and thought it interesting a bit lower than 50% were ones with scores.

Question about a deferral. I had some extenuating circumstances with my application involving the death of a family member (my grandmother died the day before applications were due and her funeral was the day after). I think I remember that there was a space on the application to talk about things like that, but at the time I couldn’t figure out how to explain what was going on, and honestly I was too overwhelmed by everything that was happening to spend enough time on it. My essays and things had typos and other issues, and my parents were not able to help me with anything because they were busy dealing with the funeral. How much can I talk about all this in my continued interest letter thing? How can I do it without sounding whiny?

Also I got heard back Thursday evening it’s not too late to send my admissions person something is it?

you will get in regardless of regular decision or ED

Friend’s son has 30 ACT and 3.5 UW GPA. Hispanic, full pay. Considering where to apply ED2 for business. Too low?
