Boston University RD 2023

Daughter was ACCEPTED
College of Engineering
OOS
ACT 33
GPA - 4.6
Numerous AP classes
Strong ECs, including 10 years as a competitive ice skater
Very passionate “Why BU” essay.

Sadly, she did not get a single dollar from the school. This was her dream school and her clear #1 choice, but I doubt we can make it work in our family with a $72,000 a year price tag. Kind of a bummer considering how hard she worked to get here, but that’s how it goes, I guess. Thankfully she has cheaper options to choose from, but this hurts. :frowning:

@collegeme321 Yes, but get approval beforehand.

“Take a gap semester to explore your world: With your college experience starting in January and finishing in the summer, you’ll have the chance to take a gap semester before you go to college—and still graduate on time. It’s an opportunity to unwind, to work, to volunteer, and to find your passion. Students take advantage of the gap semester to hold internships, take classes to earn BU credit, volunteer, visit friends, travel the world, spend time with family, and take up new hobbies or passions.”

@collegeme321 But you cannot take the classes at BU.

sunnryz, that sounds odd to me. I know everyone doesn’t get aid, but there are not a lot of women in Coll of Engineering. Certainly worth a phone call to tell them that BU is first choice. Start with Admissions. You never know.

Accepted to CAS w/ Cohen scholarship!

  • GPA: 3.8 UW, 4.1 W
  • 10 AP/ IB classes
  • SAT: 1320 (on the lower end)
  • Lots of ec’s including president of 2 clubs, part-time job, t&f and much more!!
TBH I did this application, and all the rest of my college apps the night they were due.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO STUDENTS APPLYING IN 2020
Also to the people waitlisted/ denied— you will end up somewhere so amazing for YOU so don’t stress about it

Accepted to College of Communication

@drainedbrain - I was honestly surprised as well. I didn’t think we’d get a huge amount, but I thought she’d get something and then we could hope some of her outside scholarships hit. We would not have bothered to apply if we knew she would get absolutely nothing. We will definitely call and see what we can accomplish, but I won’t get my hopes up. We certainly aren’t poor, but $72,000 is half our yearly income and we have another child to put through college in a few short years. Such a bummer.

Sat:1440 GPA:3.9
Rejected from Engineering
This year is extremely hard
My friends from last year got in with lower stats than I do

Accepted to Human Physiology Program Sargent College!! I think it’s a kinda small program…so anyone else there?

Feeling sad for my son who was waitlisted, especially after looking at stats of some of the lucky ones who were offered admissions and scholarships. I wish schools provided feedback as to their decision factors. Good luck to all.

Same. Sucks that my sons number one choice is so overpriced. He will be attending a MUCH cheaper state school instead.

Is it better to be waitlisted or offered the transfer for 2020?

Daughter accepted to Physical Therapy program. 31 ACT, 3.85 UW GPA. NHRP recipient. $35k per year in scholarships and grants. Was accepted to Northeastern as well but BU blew them away in aid! Surprising but very appreciative.

@gottano It’s not only about stats. Just Remember that…

@gottano - agreed. yet another disappointing result. son waitlisted with ACT 35, SAT 1580, GPA 4.65 (wgtd), APs, swim team, jazz, wind ensemble, pit, pep band - all several years, math team, tutors, work history in field of interest. just ugh. However, I am extremely happy for those who have been accepted!

waitlisted – intl applicant, 1530 sat. no gpa equivalent. not especially strong essays by my own approximation. ECs: debate (Vice President, board member), participant in intl writing comps with a few awards, some service charity work. I probably won’t be going even if I get accepted because BU doesn’t do aid for intl students lol

Last year it appeared that half the rejected students were offered Guaranteed Sophomore Transfer. This year very few have reported that. On the other hand there are a lot more waitlisted students than last year.

ACCEPTED INTO CAS WITH Richard D. Cohen Scholarship!!!
SAT: 1490
DID NOT TAKE ACT
Bio M subject test: 690
Weighted GPA: 97.9 (idk about the 4.0 scale lolol)
Did my common app essay and BU essay in one day but think they’re okay.
Filled out all 5 honors on common app.
Filled out all 10 activities on common app. (includes jrotc, nhs, student council, few clubs)
CONGRATS TO EVERYONE

ACCEPTED INTO ENGINEERING!
Intl Student
SAT: 1440
GPA: 3.89 W
Applied for Trustee scholarship, but it doesn’t mention rejection anymore on the portal?? Does anyone know anything about this? I already emailed them, but I thought they’d at least acknowledge that I applied and failed or something like that.
Anyway, Congrats to everyone who got accepted!

@TomSrOfBoston , I’m really just an interested observer, but do you know what the rationale behind BU offering one or the other is? If you are offering a guaranteed transfer you must want the student - but why wait? Is it more gaming of the admit number?
