How do you compare CGS Jan-2022 with NUin CS + Economics admission which is better option ?
I think Newhouse is a great option and one I think I should take up. Though BU overall is more prestigious, I feel that Newhouse is about equal to COM. Thank you for your input as this decision will be difficult to say the least.
is the CGS the same as guaranteed transfer?
Confused here, can anyone clarify? (I didn’t see the letter bc daughter went back to sleep.) She said she was WL; is that different from a guaranteed transfer? Never heard of that option for other schools. Is that just offered with a denied, or is it also offered with a WL?
Curious how your DD likes NE, or is she going to transfer to BU?
No. Totally different things.
No. Guaranteed Transfer means that you are in for Fall 2022 assuming you hold a 3.0. Waitlist means that they will take you for Fall 2021 if they have room.
True. True. Yield Protection just the same.
Waitlisted means she has a slight chance of being admitted this fall depending on how many students decide to attend. Guaranteed sophomore transfer means she cannot enter in 2021 and must apply to transfer toward the end of her freshman year at another college. She also has to meet the conditions of the guarantee, usually a 3.0 minimum GPA.
Which is “better”—in the sense that they want you more? BUs WL rate is not fantastic.
Yeah, overly familiar with WL given this year’s craziness, so I understand that process. The GT was new to me. Is that a message of “we want to be sure you can handle college”? And WL is more of “we want you and believe you belong here but just don’t have enough room”?
Yield protection is not a bad thing for a college. They do not want too many students who are there because their higher choices denied them. They may also try and transfer up thus lowering their graduation rate.
Guaranteed Transfer since you can graduate from BU, while waitlist is no guarantee.
Neither one is “better”. It depends on your preference. With NU In the student will be starting this September either in Boston or abroad. With CGS the student will take a gap semester in the fall and start in January . CGS also means that the student will not be in the mainstream of BU until their junior year. With NU In the student is in the mainstream at Northeastern in second semester of freshman year.
D also got guaranteed transfer (SHA)
3.56uw, 4.1w
Didn’t take SAT
Disappointed but not unexpected (from a Boston suburban school & BU is extremely popular with kids with higher stats, but D got into NEU so go figure)
Also, no real demonstrated interest. Actually, I think I liked BU more than D did.
@brandyballerina, Congratulations!!! Did you fill out a separate application for Presidential scholarship?
D got in with $25k/year presidential merit scholarship!
So i got the guarenteed transfer thing not sure what this means tho, does BU accept credit from other institutions would I still graduate in 4 years and how many people get the guarenteed transfer? Kind of wish i got in this year tho cuz now not sure where I should go for one year?
wait are all decisions out? mine isn’t there yet
