Brandesi hs gpa higher then Columbias and Upenns?

I read that somewhere and although I know that Brandesi is a great school how is that possble?

less rigorous high schools........actually that is easy to accomplish. Just take all the VALS from no name high schools.

I don't know if that is true or not, but it could also be a product of putting greater value on GPA than test scores. That is, maybe Brandeis is picking up a lot of top performing students with SATs in the ~1300 range.

Actually, lots of people here went to private and magnet schools. So...not so much. I'd say most people here had a pretty strong A average in high school. Not necessarily ALL A's, but very few B's if any.

The difference between the average GPA's is slight. 3.78 at Columbia, 3.84 at UPenn, and 3.88 at 'Deis. I think calmom might be right about the balance of GPA and test scores. My roommate would probably have been rejected from Columbia with a nearly 4.0 UW GPA because of her low test scores but was accepted ED into Brandeis.

Thanks for the validation of my suspicion -- it gives me hope. I'm the parent of a kid with a great GPA, probably graduating 2nd in her class, but not-so-impressive test scores. If Brandeis does value GPA over scores, then I guess we should be expecting a fat envelope this week.

do you guys think that high SAT score but a lowish GPA would be forwned upon?

How low is the GPA?

well 90 in junior year, 88 in senior year and the SATs are 1470

I mean, it is lower than the average. But it probably depends on other factors like EC's, how difficult your classes are, etc.
