Bright Futures

So I got my FA from UF and was shocked that Bright Futures only covers about 3,000/yr. I got the highest one but am a little confused; I was told that it would cover 75% of tuition. Is there something missing? Can someone explain?

On the UF website it says that the highest level covers $103 per credit hour, and as far as I know their usual cost is $210 per credit hour. so it covers about 50% or ~$1500 per fulltime (15 hours) semester.

Bright futures used to pay a large part if not all in state tuition, but thru the years the qualifications have increased dramatically while the coverage has decreased to $103/credit hour.
Sad but true.
Good luck!

Yes, Bright Futures has changed quite a bit in recent years IIRC.

Congrats you earned $3,000 academic merit to an excellent school

Yea the Florida government thought Bright Futures too expensive and too many kids qualified. Fair enough you would think all they have to do was raise the sat scores a bit right? Nope! They raised the requirements and cut the hell out of bright futures. The money for bright futures isn’t even generated from taxes its from the lottery.

Out of that $212 credit hour charge, only about $105 is tuition. Fee’s and the dreaded “tuition differential” charge makes up the rest.

So, Bright Futures is covering almost 100% of the “Tuition”, but it’s not covering the rest.

Still, it’s better than a poke in the eye… b-(

Ok, thanks for everyone’s help!
