Brown 06

Does anyone know if Brown is only accepting the New SAT scores or will it also take the old SAT? The website was a bit ambiguous. Thanks Class '06

Bah, I'm wondering the same thing. I emailed them, but I keep getting that auto response that doesn't answer my question. I plan on calling them tomorrow.

I already took the old SAT and the writing SAT II, and have a combined score of 2300. I don't want to have to retake it.

i think they'll accept it, but I can't remember off the top of my head. I'm pretty sure they're website says though

I think that they will accept the old ones, too, but I am not sure.

The website heavily implies that they will require the new one, but with both Harvard and Yale and most all other schools accepting either, and Brown being the "liberal" ivy...hopefully.

If they require the new SAT, I may just take the ACT instead.

of course it's not of much interest to me since i'll be taking both the new sat and act. so it doesn't reallly affect me at all. My school requires we take both tests at least once.

How can your school require you to take the SAT, even once?

okay, they can't force you, but they will make a way to make sure it happens. If you're on the college prep track (which 90% are), than you take both the act and the sat once each at least

you're Brown Class of 2010, not '06

he didn't say class of 06 he said brown 06, as in year of applying

What a strange way of putting it lol

Alright, I called up the admissions office. Here is a rough paraphrasing of what was said:

"Will applicants to the Brown class of 2010 be required to take the new SAT, even if they have already taken the old SAT and three SAT IIs, including the writing test?"

"We want the new one."

"Does this mean that the new one is required?"

"It isn't required, but we strongly recommend it."

"Will it hurt my chances of admission if I don't take the new one?"

"Yes."

"Since I already took the old SAT and the SAT II writing, it seems silly for me to take the new SAT. Could I just take extra SAT II subject tests instead?"

"No."

"Can I take the ACT and then submit my old SAT scores as well, and not have it held against me?"

"Yes, you can take the ACT instead of the new SAT, if it includes the writing exam."

fgAGHABGAHHGDFFHAAHFGHsjc. They must think I am such a pest, haha. I was sure that the woman was thisclose to being like "SHUT UP WHAT ARE YOU PLAYING, 20 QUESTIONS?! WHAT IS YOUR NAME I NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE NEVER, EVER ADMITTED TO BROWN." But there you have it.

I'm taking the ACT on April 9th. Joy.

I would expect all schools taking in applications for the incoming freshman class in 2006, to require the new SAT II. All Juniors should plan on taking it.

I would say that the only reason the old SAT was still available in Jan.2005, would be for 2005 applicants who wanted to take it one more time. And also because their new SAT was not yet ready, and how could CBoard forgo a whole sitting's worth of moolah.

I think it's a hassle for people who are already satisfied with their old SAT score to have to retake the entire thing.

Well the thing is, this information has been out for over a year now, and anyone who is a Junior now, and was a sophomore then, should have known, or been informed by their GC that applicants for 2006 would have to take the new SAT

....eh some colleges do take composite scores from both your new and old sat.....as in your highest math from old and highest verbal....critical....from new and that'll be your score....other's are just picky! thanks for the info fids

i'm going to have my head in prep books until june. grrr. act in april, ap tests in bio and euro history in may, sat in may, 2 sat tests in june. The plan is to be in a constant studying mode until june, and hopefully all the hard work will pay off and I won't have to retake anything. Senior year is stressful enough without having to worry about standarized tests

I feel sorry for you celebrian lol

there's really no way around it. I knew I wouldn't be ready for the march sat, which is why I didn't register for that one. I have to take both sat and act, so everything is really scrunched together

What does it mean if you receive a letter from Brown and all the other colleges? I understand it's not a guarantee acceptance but a higher chance than another person who didn't get a letter? Just wondering.
