Brown 2008 Transfer Applicants

ylp, me too.

i wonder if there is any significance to that...those being able to see that letter and those unable to see that letter

I should hope not. But then, I can't see the letter. I doubt I got in anyway, but who knows.

i sitll have "Admission decision not available text" as well.

but yeah, good news about the acceptance rate. i mean, it will still be difficult, but better than, say 3%.

1-2 more weeks! AH!

is eveyrone taking finals right nwo? i keep thinking about this stuff... it is distracting

just finished midterms... dumb quarter system

yeahhh about that

The link probably means that they already finished reviewing your application and have a decision made for you.

so where are you all attempting to transfer from? I go to brandeis.

northwestern

UCLA (10 char)

UCSD

I now see a link on my application as well. Hopefully this means that they'll be releasing their decisions soon.

Still no link on mine…! Scary. I'm transferring from Vassar.

I find it interesting the overlap of Brown and Georgetown. To point out, CherryBlossom and isthisit (by the way, is your username referring to The Strokes song?)...
Not to be invasive, but why are you attracted to both schools? Please forgive me if I'm mistaken in any way, but I also am a transfer applicant for Brown and Georgetown and some have found it to be an odd combination.
I'm a philosophy major transfer from a very small, liberal college in the West.

haha yeah it is the strokes song! strangely enough, i too am a philosophy major. or i guess that isn't a coincidence at all and might actually explain the shared attraction to both brown and georgetown. i think what links the two is the interdepartmental fluidity. brown has a bunch of interdepartmental classes and majors, as i'm sure you know, and since philosophy is so broad and also applicable to so many different subjects, i think the flexibility with courses and between different departments makes philosophy at brown attractive. as for georgetown, we all know about the strong political science there. i'm mostly interested in political theory and ethics, so georgetown's strong political focus ties nicely with my specific interests in philosophy.

what made you, kp793, apply to both?

lol, I totally see your point. Truthfully, I applied to Georgetown without doing much research beforehand and had no idea about their broad core curriculum. It was the thought of spending the next 3 years in DC that appealed to me, and its 5-yr M.A. program for mathematics certainly played a factor as well. But coming down to making a decision, I will most likely choose to either stay at SD or go to WUSTL (although they gave me less money than GT) if I don’t get accepted to any more places.

Brown is my first choice by the way

Great song, though my favorite is What Ever Happened?
Anyway, I agree that the philosophic mindset has a lot to do with it. Personally coming from an incredibly small school I am looking for a larger, urban campus. Aside from geography, though, I had the same thoughts about interdepartmental interests/opportunities. I am currently a philosophy major and English minor. However, I am intensely interested in linguistics and environmental sciences. The opportunities afforded by both Brown and Georgetown in terms of moulding your own experience are undeniable. Plus, I could not help but be attracted to the emphasis of international citizenship at both schools. I don't know if it's at all relevant, but I also applied to Tufts.
Ha, feel as though I'm writing those damn essays all over again.

hahah i felt like i was writing a "why _____" essay when i wrote my response. sorry if it sounded trite/pedantic. i applied to tufts too! i guess there is a good chance of us going to school together next year! we can listen to the strokes and talk philosophy, hah

is what world is brown or georgetown "urban"?

I am not sure what your question is, Lucretia, but I consider a school urban if I can get to a major city within 5 minutes.
