Brown 2020 rue applicants

Hie guys anyone applying for the 2020 RUE program.

@chikosquared Hi, I submitted my application yesterday. I was looking for a thread for it but hadn’t found one until just now. Did you apply?

Woo! Finally found a thread. I applied yesterday too. Names Tyler, in the Navy and doubtful I’ll get in but go big or go home ya know? How do you guys feel about your application thus far?

Am also doubtful considering my background as an international applicant from Africa.

Yes am left with submission of transcripts

Hi there! I applied for RUE! How’s everyone feeling about their app?

I’m 27, had a 5 year gap in my education since I left college to work full time to help my family.
I’ve been in CC since spring 2019 and will graduate now in May.
GPA: 3.53/4.0
Classes taken: college algebra, pre-calculus, biology 1 with lab, macroeconomics.
Classes currently taking: survey of calculus, chemistry 1 with lab, microeconomics
PTK member
Math Tutor/Math Teaching Assistant at my college.
Have worked full-time as a flight attendant for 6 years now.
Letters of Rec: Economics professor who I had fall term and now this term, my pre-calculus professor from fall term.
For the essay I wrote about my educational road, why I left college, what I did during my time out of college and in the workforce, what I learned about my strengths and weaknesses, what I acquired from my work experience, why I decided to go back to school, how Brown’s RUE program would help me achieve my goals and what courses specifically I want to take while there.

@gobigorgohome4 Hey Tyler, Raysa here. Good on ya to apply! We won’t know unless we try.

So far, I feel like I have a decent application. Idk, it’s so hard to gauge based on past threads. What about you? Why do you doubt you may get accepted?

Anyone else here get an email to interview?

@scareloki618 No, I didn’t get one :frowning: Did you get one?!!!

When did you submit your application, @scareloki618 ?

@signpainter yes I got one. @llinrs I submitted my application the day before it was due.

@scareloki618 @signpainter I submitted the application way before the deadline and I haven’t received any emails to interview yet.

Not a good sign for you my dude. Sorry.

@llinrs hmm I haven’t received one either  I hope they are still going through the applications and figuring stuff out. Are you a veteran @scareloki618? I really don’t know anything about the admissions process for Brown RUE but looks like in the 2018 thread, someone said that all veterans get interviews, but not all non-veterans get interviews. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/2066227-brown-rue-2018.html

Did any of you have your interviews? If so, how were they?

I received an interview invite today and I will have my interview next week? Non-vet here. Have anybody else had their interview? How did it go?

@llinrs Hey Raysa, your app sounds super strong! I guess doubt for getting accepted is the wrong word because there’s definitely a possibility, but I would honestly just be surprised more than anything. I didn’t do great in high school(2.8 GPA) so I joined the Navy and started taking college classes where I’ve been able to do pretty well.
I’ve got about a 3.7 GPA, PTK member, loads of community service and was a finalist for a coveted veteran scholarship to UVA, where I had to go to NYC for the final interview… it was a cool experience.
My standardized testing isn’t fantastic with a 1160 SAT (diagnosed with mono a week before the test) but I still somehow placed in the 70th ish percentile.
My essays are mainly about self reflection and improvement after losing my mother and growing up in the Navy.
I’ve already been accepted to UW Madison and RIT. Waiting on apps from Brown, Duke, Stanford, NWestern, UT and Boston.

Did you apply anywhere else Raysa?
And any other active duty or veterans out there?

@ti36xpro @princelink88 I had my interview last week with a really nice woman who graduated in '95. We had a really great conversation about Brown that lasted about 40/45 minutes, it was more informal than anything but she had a lot of good info about the school. I’m a pretty personable person so the conversation came effortlessly, just ask some good questions to get them talking about their time at Brown and it won’t feel like a one sided interview.
I’d also recommend thinking about how you would best use Browns open curriculum and having some clubs/activities written down that you could mention at some point in the convo to show your well rounded.

@scareloki618 how’d your interview go?

@gobigorgohome4 Thanks, I hope Brown thinks so, too. I really think you have a great chance of acceptance, your high school performance should not be an issue because they look at you holistically and from what I can see, you’ve done superb in college and you’ve served in the Navy. I’m rooting for ya! Also, congratulations on your acceptances! I hope your get acceptances from the other remaining schools. How did your interview go? What was asked of you?

Aside from Brown, I applied to Yale’s EWSP, Columbia’s School of General Studies, Cornell, Vanderbilt and UVA. Haven’t heard back from any school as of yet and haven’t received an interview offer from Brown. So I’m kind of unsure how It’s going for my app with Brown. I did check the admission portal and I did notice that they added a withdrawal of application option that was not there before.
