Essays (rating 1-10, details): 9.5/10 My common app essay was about my transition from being homeschooled to going to a public high school. I am not going to cap but it was very very good, I feel like it encapsulated who I was and told a very deep story about the trials I had and how I overcame them. (I did use collegevine, I am not being paid to advertise but they make a world of difference. If you have the money pay for their service.)
Supplementals were 10/10, all anecdotal instances from life reflected into my answer to the prompt. Collegevine did a lot of work with me on the essays.
PLME Supplementals: Got deferred, but felt the PLME essays were very very solid as well.
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: 11/10: This teacher was my debate coach that I did a ton of work with. I had him from AP Psych and AP Gov. I was a stellar student in the class and a very talented debater that won many competitions under him. He thought very highly of me and wrote an amazing letter I felt I did not fully deserve it.
Teacher Rec #2: 10/10: Had this teacher for all Math courses up until senior year. I was a solid student in the classroom, I played soccer against his son and so we rubbed elbows a lot outside of the classroom. Not only did we have a great relationship in the classroom but I feel like even outside we were great friends so I feel like he could speak to my talent as a student and my interpersonal skills.
Counselor Rec: 8/10 I got written up 3 times throughout high school FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE REFERRALS DO NOT BE AFRAID TO APPLY IVY!! IT DOES NOT MATTER. She thought I had some behavior problems but also knew I was a good student. So this rec could have gone either way, I did not read it.
Additional Rec: 10/10 I had two other supplementals recs. One was my principal (we were very close because my school was small and she saw the high aspirations I had from a young age, I felt she wanted to see me succeed), she wrote an amazing letter about my research and work ethic. The other was my on-site research mentor for my published project, she wrote me an amazing letter as well, we were not close but she thought highly of me and was just an overall positive and very smart woman. She was accepted to Yale and was very aware of what I wanted to do and supported me.
Interview: My interviewer was SOOOO awkward, he did not ask any questions and I had prepared HELLA lot. We talked about literature from the Elizabethan time period because that was his major…I knew enough to get by because I took a Brit Lit survey course…but honestly it was very off-topic and I tried to get it back on topic so I could talk about myself. He thoroughly enjoyed our interview…even though I was on edge…but him enjoying it was all that mattered. I sent him my essays. which he liked, and this gave him personable stuff to say about me in his letter…but if it was not for that, I do not think I would have gotten a good rec from him. 9/10.
