Why Brown - 6: Talked about how the Brown community reacted to the 2016 election, and how I wanted to be part of such a passionate group of people.

Tell us where you’ve lived - 7: Talked about my personal connection to Korea.

Tell us about a community you’re part of - 6: Talked about how I’m a military brat.

Teacher Rec #1: 8 – APUSH teacher. Great letter. We’re really close, and it showed (I might have added some lines)

Counselor Rec: 7 – Have not read it; we’re close, but I feel like she uses a template. Not sure.
Additional Rec: Nada
Interview: Lasted about thirty minutes. It was kinda awkward, but in a Brown sort of way.

General Comments & Advice:

Yale 2021!

Decision: ACCEPTED (after deferred ED!)

GPA- 4.3 Weighted (out of 4.7), not weighted 3.92 (to give some perspective here, my schools is extremely competitive and the Valedictorian W GPA is usually 4.38-4.4, also I have all A’s)
ACT- 35 C
Class rank- probably top 10%, not reported though
Italian Subject SAT- 770
APs- World History (4), Psychology (5), Biology (5), English Lang (5), US History (4)
Honors- Chem, French (3 yrs), US History, Calc

Senior Course load: I’m taking almost the most rigorous courses possible, 4 APs and 1 Honors

Honors/Awards:
National French Exam- Silver Award: won Sophomore year 2015, one of 2 people to win it
some decent local awards for my projects below
High Honor role- all of HS
AP Scholar
National Merit Commended student

Sports: JV Tennis 2 years, Varsity Tennis 2 years, V Golf 1 year

Leadership: Major one is a grant of $4,000 I applied for and was awarded Junior year to do a project on Healthy Eating for it in my school district (I organized 6 assemblies, 2 parent workshops, and a HS cafeteria tasting, also made a survey, successful impact which added organic and healthier options in the cafeterias, continuously adding more this year to improve the cafeteria food at all schools)
Started the Animal Rights club (president of it for 2 years, not currently)
Pres of Environmental Club
VP of French Club
Got a 2k grant for composting just a few weeks ago and sent that as an update!

Volunteer: my grant project also gives me hours (at least 40, Junior year), Pony Power Therapies (Soph year 25 hrs), I help kids with disabilities (Soph-Senior, 20 hrs per year)

Summer: into Junior year I did a two week college camp at JHU and took a class, into Senior year I took a summer online course at my local community college in Abnormal Psychology

Recommendation Letters: one 10/10 (gave me the highest rec he’s ever given!), the others I’m guessing 9/10, also an extra one from my superintendent who worked with me on the grant (7/10)

Essays- good but I honestly my parents and I didn’t love some of them: my main essay is maybe a 9/10 and supplements are 7-8/10, show my personality/voice, unique interests/qualities

Interview: pretty good but it was way back in November so it was only my second

Extra- I’m bilingual (Italian and English)

Applied for Financial Aid?: yep
Intended Major: cognitive neuroscience
State (if domestic applicant): NJ
Country (if international applicant): US
School Type: Public, top-rated
Ethnicity: white
Dual citizenship with Italy, US citizen/resident
Gender: female
Income Bracket: middle class
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): the opposite of a hook

Strengths: probably ACT scores, increasing trend in grades, leadership in the grants
Weaknesses: my state, gender, whiteness, supplements could have been better
Why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred? No freaking clue but I was so sure I would be rejected after being deferred ED that I had already moved on so it still hasn’t really sunken in yet

Other decisions- Accepted: Amherst (early write and Schupf Scholar), Middlebury, Carleton, Bryn Mawr, Brandeis
Waitlisted: Pomona, Tufts, Vassar, Bowdoin
Rejected: Harvard

Waitlisted

ACT: 32 Composite
Unweighted GPA: 3.93
Rank: 11/550 (10th most diverse in the US, largest in west MI)
AP: World (4), Lang (5), Chem (3), Calc BC (4), Psych (4), Lit, Stats, Comp Sci, Macro, Bio
Senior Year Course Load: All AP (the above with no scores) except Band and required Civics credit

Extracurriculars: Marching Band - 4 yr, 2 yr section leader
Concert Band - 4 yr, 2 yr top ensemble, Solo and Ensemble Div 1 at Districts and States

Cross Country - 2 yr, varsity letter
Graphic Design Club - 2 yr, started online platform, organized events, and have several printed designs
Volunteer/Community service: NHS Lead Tutor among other small things
Essays: Great. Emphasized the diversity at my HS and my innate uniqueness from my interests and where I’ve grown up with

Recs: I only felt good about the rec from my cross country coach (I worked very hard and got a bunch of recognition, despite being very mediocre). I’m shy, so I’m sure my band and Calc teacher rec were lackluster, especially since my band teacher submitted his very close to the deadline on the day of a concert lol
Interview: My interviewer was a fairly recent grad. I think it went okay, like we had the same major and she was nice, except I was perhaps a bit awkward. I emailed her with some follow-up stuff about stuff we talked about but she never replied soooo uh

Intended Major: Some type of IT major, leaning towards CS
State: MI
School Type: Large Public, low to average performance school
Ethnicity: Vietnamese
Gender: F
Income Bracket: 100k + (only recently though lol)

Strengths: interesting mix of stuff?
Weaknesses: recs (only 1 academic teacher lolololol), average ACT, no SAT subject tests, not enough focus in activities, time spent
Why you think you were waitlisted: I applied on a whim over Christmas break after getting a decent ACT score I didn’t expect much. Also see weaknesses
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: U of M is the only important school I got accepted into, which is where I’m probably going to anyways so I’m fine with the waitlist decision. Guaranteed transfer at Cornell

Decision: Accepted

Essays (rating 1-10, details):Common App- About Weight loss, overarching theme of the immorality of allowing my situation as I’m such a large influence to so many including my younger sister who has also lost weight with my assistance, I liked it a lot,
What field- Talked about what makes math great, (I liked all my essays)
Why Brown- Talked more broadly about why the people of brown are it’s best asset, not the open curriculum ( which I still praised, but wasn’t the focus) Very good
Where lived- I took a very literal view of this, I just told them about my 7 moves over my lifetime, but also talked about my summer trips to Syria to see family each year before the civil war and how that may be my most consistent home
Something interesting you’ve learned: talked about the sequence of the sum of the natural numbers 1+2+3+4… and cool things about it. the whole -1/12 deal, how that can be interpreted with things like the Madelbrot set and Cesaro summation, good stuff

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Recommendation #1:Can’t really rate it but I liked it a lot
Teacher Recommendation #2:not as good but still great (keep in mind i don’t really know how to rate these)
Counselor Rec:excellent
Additional Info/Rec:teacher from 6th grade, thought it would provide some different context, didn’t see though
Art Supplement: I really should have submitted a music supplement, it would have helped my app

Interview:It was really good, great conversations, prevailed through unexpected questions, young guy, recent graduate, he seemed to understand me near fully

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?:Affirmative
Intended Major:Mathematics
State (if domestic applicant):IL
Country (if international applicant):USA
School Type:Public, small, rural, cornfield territory
Ethnicity:Arab, Middle eastern
Gender:MALE
Income Bracket:30-35k
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):First generation college student, rigor initiative in poor school, low opportunities in general and I’ve done well

Reflection

Strengths:Pursuit of academic rigor in poor school, good accomplishments in context, connection with what made Brown great and how I would fit in and how I understood their community of minds and valued it greatly, Interview was quite good.
Weaknesses:I wish I submitted a music supplement, I could have pursued more academic rigor, started math clubs/ teams, inspired more change, (not scores)
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I was a strong applicant, I showed that I could handle the work at brown and that I understood what made brown important and why I made sense at brown, brown seemed to agree, this is the main goal of your application, prove that you are academically qualified and then convince brown that you understand how you fit with them, how you can mutually benefit from a relationship
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:
Accepted: Brown, Grinnell, URochester, UIUC
Waitlist: Carleton, Case Western, UChicago,
Rejected: Princeton, MIT, WashU

General Comments : If anyone has any extended questions I’m happy to answer just personal message me or respond to this post

I’m really happy. It’s great to get such a large opportunity to succeed. I almost fear that with this huge opportunity that I will abandon my pushing of the envelope, this I’ve made my goal, to strive for only the best even when my peers are the best

Some advice for prospects: It’s really hard to get in, really hard, you have to be very good, the word “crapshoot” I think is flawed, In building a balanced class, sometimes weird things happen, Why was I waitlisted at Case but admitted to Brown in RD (no ED 19% acceptance rates)? Well, It can be easy to dismiss and provide an easy crapshoot explanation, but that’s just an crutch for those who don’t understand the process (almost noone understands the process to be honest). This process has a lot of variables and to be honest I probably don’t have 20% of the reasoning of why I got in, I don’t think most admitted students or rejected students do. I’d just give it your best shot, and that means your best shot, not the shot that is a little bit worse than your best shot but you shot it because its about good enough to give you a chance at brown, but go for your best, if you do that you can have no regrets ( I know, hard thing to do, to shoot a “best shot”) Apply to lots of places because honestly you’ll probably be rejected, and I mean nothing ill in that statement, just a fair evaluation of the admissions process I think.

For Rejected Students: I lot of the same justification applies. If you shot your best shot, you gotta keep shooting it and see how far it takes you. If you didn’t, i cant sit here and tell you that it was all a crapshoot and that it was “no” judgement of you, In the end it was to some degree a judgment of you, assuming we are talking about you as a compilation of your accomplishments, intellectual prowess, and other things brown evaluates ( if we’re talking about some sort of intrinsic property of all humans, than yes, you are no less of a person for being rejected by Brown) I see it this way, the best thing to do is to take responsibility for this and try to hit it harder next go, you know “mission failed, we’ll get 'em next time” do that.

To admitted students: Don’t take your foot of the gas, continue to pursue your goals to the fullest degree, great job so far

ECs -
Assistant Manager working at my parents’ store over the summers for 4 years (really enjoyed this, wrote an essay about it)
Volunteer/internship at local free clinic
President of my school’s science club - we did the science olympiad, the envirothon, and a bunch of other small competitions
Ultimate Frisbee - just a regular club sport but I had a ton of fun with it
Public Relations officer for SGA - tons of volunteer work/coordinating school events
Vice President of NHS - organized various campaigns for our school
President of AVID Tutoring Program - tutored students twice a week and worked to recruit other tutors.
President/Founder of Debate Club - we met to discuss political issues (the 2016 election was a pretty great time for this club)

I applied for different majors at every school, but I put either math or chemical engineering for about half of them.

I wrote my commonapp essay about being an atheist and always feeling the need to keep quiet about it, and tied that in with the reason I created my school’s debate club (to give people the ability to speak/be heard)

For the obligatory “elaborate on an extracurricular” essay, I wrote about organizing tournaments at my parents’ store and my overall experience working over the summers.

Reflection:
Strengths: Grades, test scores, teacher recs

Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted at Yale, Dartmouth, Duke, Vanderbilt, UVA, and McGill; wait listed at Harvard, UPenn, and Cornell; Rejected at Columbia and Princeton

General Comments: Congrats to all those accepted! You have worked so hard for this - enjoy yourself now!! For all those who didn’t receive the good news you were hoping for, please remember that college admissions is such a crapshoot and that some random admissions officer’s decision does not reflect who you are as a person.

Essays (rating 1-10, details):

Questbridge Essays -
8/10 - It compared my life to a wooden desk I’ve owned since I was little. I scribbled on it and wrote down my thoughts when I was going through bad times, and the desk became an extension of my personality.
6/10 - I wrote about how chess was an underappreciated art form. I went on to say I found people at school to create a club with.

Common App Essay - 7/10, it was about how I visited my Grandma before she passed from terminal breast cancer. She was playful and humorous even in her last moments, so I wrote about how she didn’t let her condition stop her from having fun with her grandchild for the last time.

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: English teacher, pushed me to pursue politics. 8/10
Teacher Rec #2: Bio teacher, I was funny and over-excited in her class. I wasn’t the best student, but I got close to her as a person. 8/10
Counselor Rec: Generic, I got a new counselor starting junior year. 4/10
Additional Rec: None.
Interview: None.

Other:

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Political Science
State (if domestic applicant): AZ
School Type: Large public, 2500 students total.
Ethnicity: Asian-American (South Korean Immigrant)
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 35k
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First gen, poor (?)

Reflections:

Strengths: Test scores, ECs
Weaknesses: Dat GPA, holy balls I should’ve tried harder for all 4 years.
Why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred? Plain and simple, don’t read too much into your decisions because it can seemingly be random at times and they do not determine your worth as a person.

General Comments: I didn’t care at all about school in my freshman year, so my GPA took a beating. I started to wake up and realize that I didn’t want to go to my state school (no offense ASU!) and end up with a desk job, working 9 to 5 and not accomplishing more. I was entitled - I thought I was such a smart kid, and that I was destined to rule the world, cure cancer, marry Emma Watson. So I involved myself in a bunch of clubs that I didn’t care about, started studying for tests that I hated studying for, all in an attempt to pad my application. In my senior year, I took a look at myself and I didn’t know who I was. I was a phony, a hack, who did what he had to do to get to a place that he thought he had to get to. I embraced my quirks and my love for music during this past year, but I regret that it was too late. When I look back on my high school life, I realize that I wasted my time doing things that I didn’t like doing. I can’t think of more than 5 memorable experiences I had in my high school years. I just wish I had accepted myself earlier. Then I could say, “Oh I don’t regret high school. I had a ton of fun!”

Anyways, remember that admissions to top colleges are basically like drawing the lottery. I’m blessed to be accepted to these institutions. I just feel weird, knowing that they didn’t accept me, per se - they accepted a bluffed-up version of me.

Summer Activities:
Pacific Music Institute (Music intensive week-long workshop)
Summer School (of course)

Essays (rating 1-10, details): 8/10; The short answer prompts killed me. How am I supposed to show who I am in less than 150 words? I tried my best, though, and my editors told me that they were unique and true to my character.
I DID SUBMIT SUPPLEMENTARY ESSAYS; 10/10. As I felt the short answers didn’t satisfy me, I submitted two supplemental essays; one about my passion for music and another about an eye-opening revelation about the nature of the politically conservative/why I want to study Sociology. They were very, very carefully edited and I am still proud of their quality to this day.

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: 7/10; Current AP Lit. Teacher. He didn’t really know me super well at the time but he commented on my humor and easygoing/helpful nature in class. Have not seen it but I assume that it was very well written because… well… he IS an English teacher… but perhaps not the most personal or in depth.

Teacher Rec #2: 9/10; Junior AP Lang. Teacher. We have a great relationship and I did very well in her class! I haven’t seen this one either but I know she writes very good letters and she told me she really tried to make me shine.

Counselor Rec: 10/10; My class counselor. I’ve known her since Freshman year and we talk regularly! She knows that I try hard and knows me very well as a person and as a student. She showed it to me and it was a real standout recommendation; she highlighted my interest in music as well as my passion for teaching.

Additional Rec: 9/10; My Internship director and Youth Symphony Conductor. I’ve known him for 5 years, and he knows me really well as a musician and as a person. We are wonderful friends! He showed me the letter and it really spoke volumes about my personality and character as well as my diligence and dedication when it came to music.

Interview: 8/10; I had a wonderful lady who graduated from Brown in about '07 (if I remember correctly!). She actually went to medical school, so we got into talking about Biology and the research that led me to present at JSSF (see above “Major Awards”. I was really nervous, though, so I might have come off as a bit awkward and there were some lulls in the conversation. Overall, however, I think it helped my application as I didn’t really go much into that subject with my application.

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Sociology/Linguistics
State (if domestic applicant): HI
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Asian (Korean/Chinese)
Gender: F
Income Bracket: 80,000 ~ 90,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nothing really

Reflection

Strengths:
Music (it’s my spike; I play multiple instruments)
Passionate, genuine essays
Took the most rigorous courseload possible (All the AP’s offered at my school)
I put some humor into my application

Weaknesses:
I had 4 B’s on my transcript (2 from Junior year and 2 from Senior)!!!
AP Scores were not strong
My skills are very lopsided (all my B’s were in Math and Physics; my talents only seem to lie in English and History)
… Asian Female™

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
I tried to make my application really “me” and show that I fit in to the slightly offbeat (yet still academically oriented) nature of Brown. Although I didn’t really stand out academically in a pool of such talented students, I think that my motivated nature came through in my application via my commitment to Music.

Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:
Rejected- Yale, Cornell
Accepted- UHM, Boston University

General Comments : Congratulations to my fellow admitted students! I hope to attend and meet you all come September. To anyone reading this as a nervous Junior/Senior; I totally feel you… Just believe in yourself and put your best self forward in the application process! Don’t try to be someone who you aren’t; the best college choice is the one you want and wants you back, so it will all work out in the end. Best of luck to all of you!

2 (Why major?) - 9/10

3 (Why Brown?) - 10/10

4 (Where you've lived) - 10/10

5 (Importance of community) - 9/10

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: 10/10 (She really loved me and apparently has told all her classes, even her junior class this year, about me??)
Teacher Rec #2: 8/10 (Nice person, but don’t think she wrote as well as teacher above)
Counselor Rec: 10/10 (We really connected, really pushed me to apply to schools that would fit and basically asked me what sorts of things I’d like her to write in the letter; she’s even helping me to get off of a couple of waitlists lol)
Additional Rec: From piano teacher - 9/10 (don’t know whether it made that much of a difference, but I did submit a portfolio of my piano playing)
Interview: Didn’t have one

Other

Intended Major: Science & Society
State (if domestic applicant): Florida
Country (if international applicant): US of A
School Type: Private

Gender: Female
Income Bracket: <$60,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I’m not sure if being multiracial is a URM…Uh, I wrote a lot about how my childhood in Australia affected my life though (I lived in Sydney for 7 years)

Reflection

Strengths: Submitted portfolios of digital design work and piano, maybe religion & multiracial background, first-generation American, kinda take pride in my writing skills, nonprofit organization
Weaknesses: Grades were kind of eh because of some situations I had in sophomore year, but I brought them back up for junior and senior years
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Worked really hard, and I felt like my true self honestly showed through. The portfolios must have done something as well; digital design isn’t seen that often in girls. When they say to write honestly, they really mean it.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:
Accepted - Vanderbilt
Waitlisted - Harvard, UChicago

General Comments :To be honest, I thought I got rejected/waitlisted at first because other schools would have a huge CONGRATULATIONS flashing on the screen when you log in. When I saw the actual acceptance letter though, I literally screamed. Best day in a long time. So glad that I’m ending high school on a great note and I’m happily looking forward to the next four years in an amazing, wonderful school. Can’t wait to meet my fellow '21-ers soon enough.

Posting this for my D as I think her being rejected is more info than the other places she was admitted. Brown was the only ivy that rejected her. She has a lot of great choices so don’t feel bad for her

Common App: talked about one of my volunteering experiences, i tried my best to show that I’m a caring person

Brown Short Answers: talked about interest in community service, science, and exploring other subjects. also talked about the impact of sports on my life. showed interest in brown and was very specific
PLME essays: spent three months on these essays. for the first essay, talked about my shadowing experiences, and for the second essay, talked about my interest in learning about Spanish-speaking cultures as well as biology

Essays (rating 1-10, details): Rereading them, they kind of make me cringe. My main common app essay was about rice, my intended concetration thing was about how I fail miserably at titrating, and other essays were on assorted topics. I guess 6.5-7.5/10 in quality.

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Counselor: 9.5/10. Really long, really detailed. She accidentally emailed it to me…
Teacher 1: 10/10. NJROTC Instructor, retired senior Naval officer. Again emailed it to me…
Teacher 2: 7-8/10? Had him for APUSH, thought very highly of me. Only teacher that actually followed protocols and didn’t accidentally email me my rec letter lol

Weaknesses: I had a C on my transcript… Also, I was an Asian, with no real major awards.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: No idea… Lucky? NROTC? Maybe this is some elaborate ruse by Zeus, Jupiter, Buddha, God, Jesus and the Spaghetti Monster…
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:
Don’t want to go back and check. I didn’t apply to a whole lot of schools.

] General Comments: I’m very happy with Brown. After being deferred from Princeton SCEA and waitlisted UChicago EDII, I largely lost hope for getting into an Ivy; I was prepared to go to Williams or Vanderbilt for the good financial aid. I never seriously considered Brown even before that; if I went to an Ivy, I wanted Princeton, Penn, or Columbia. However, I think the campus culture and general attitude of Brown is probably better suited for my style, and I will likely be attending in the fall. Congratulations to everyone else who got in, and good luck to those in waitlist purgatory.

IB (place score in parenthesis): Full IB (Anticipated IB Diploma Candidate). Some classes include: IB History 2 years, IB Biology 2 years, IB English 2 years, IB Italian 2 years, etc.
Senior Year Course Load: IB Biology, IB History, IB Business SL, IB English, IB Italian, IB TOK, Environmental Science
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Outstanding Student of the Italian Language Award, others are really not “major”.

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): I was in a bunch of clubs in my school, like Italian Club and Model UN. I was class president in my junior class, and started up many programs that focused on donations to charity.

Volunteer/Community service: I tutored all over the place. In my community, I became a head tutor for a class of over 30 students and was responsible for teaching mainly Geometry and Biology. I even taught Italian/Middle Eastern people the English language via Skype, which I mentioned in my interview. In fact, my interviewer and I started laughing when she said “how don’t you get paid for basically being a full-time teacher”.

Summer Activities: I traveled to the Middle East and volunteered for about two months in my country’s government for two years. I was an intern, so I had to handle paper work and even record meeting minutes, but I also learned a lot about engineering and business while observing the work around me. This activity was also followed by much babysitting and tutoring.

Essays (rating 1-10, details): My essays, I thought, were great. I discussed how I desire a diversified student pool, which I can definitely find at Brown. I even talked about the free curriculum and how it distinguishes Brown from any ordinary school. It’s clear that this university really wants to give its students the best college experience.

Common App Essay: I loved it. It wasn’t “incredible”, but I consider it to be great. I focused on how I started my own website by building a team of intellectuals but ultimately the website was a failure due to anonymous hackers. The solution was a model we proposed: an anti-hacking software that enhances website security to the max. It was an amazing experience to share, and was definitely unique, which is the most important thing…

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: 9/10, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was short because she is becoming old and had a lot of students to handle. But she loved me, and I was definitely her favorite student. It’s hard to judge this one, but I can’t imagine she said anything that wouldn’t make me shine
Teacher Rec #2: 10/10, Great teacher, and loved me. She even interviewed me at the park and I gave her my resume. She even informed me that she focused on my essay to make sure it is “ivy-league material”, which she considered myself to be also, haha. . Everyone at the school knows that she is good at writing recommendations as well, haha.
Counselor Rec: 8/10, I have no clue whether it is good or great, but the counselor surely liked me. I knew her for a while but sometimes I was shy to talk to her. I told her everything about me in my interview so hopefully she wrote me an awesome rec., which I’m sure she did.

Additional Rec: I sent two additional recs: (1) from the government in the Middle East, but it was very simple and straight-foward, basically saying that I am qualified to pursue a competitive future. (2) From the assistant principal WHO LOVED ME!!! She’s awesome so this could’ve only helped.

Interview: 9.5/10, I was nervous but I tried to remain cool. I told her at the beginning that I’ll try my best because I’m not really used to interviews. She definitely appreciated my honesty, and she made me feel so comfortable. I then couldn’t stop talking, so it was ultimately calm and we got along SO WELL!

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Biology or Engineering, but I am undecided.
State (if domestic applicant): NY
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White (Middle Eastern)
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 180k+
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): In my interview, I told her that I’ve been through lots of discrimination in my life, especially when I went to private school. I believe that honesty was my friend in this case, because Brown understood my individuality and responded with optimism.
