Brown Class of 2018 Early Decision Applicants

Oh, of course, but in general they are much more willing to trade high SAT scores for interesting extracurricular or students who stand out for different reasons. They have a large range of high scoring 2400 SAT applicants who they still reject and choose lower scored candidates.

You definitely can’t score poor and expect to get in, but according to what I’ve read, Brown mainly uses SAT scores to just weed out lower level applicants and students who don’t belong.

I’m pretty sure they use the Sat scores for the initial cutoffs. And If they’re really stuck in deciding between two or more applicants. But we can’t really say. That’s the thing about holistic admissions. They don’t always need just good scores.
And even if we do get in ED, they expect us to maintain our grades/GPA.
I know a guy who got in last year, and was kicked out during the first week because they reviewed his post-acceptance high school grades and they weren’t good enough. Worst part, he was an international student and had to go back after a week at Brown. And had to wait a year before he could apply anywhere else.
Scary.

@PakistanKhan, how bad were his grades?

Not that bad. He got 1A 1B and 2Cs. I think. But Cambridge A levels are extremely tough.
Students here tend to take the exams easy if they get into a good university before.
And it doesn’t matter to most others.
A senior of mine got into Princeton, but got C’s and D’s in his A level exams. But it didn’t affect his admission at all.
Apparently Brown does look into your grades later too. The person who took my alumni interview said so.

in a courseload of 6 classes, would 1 B and 5 As in 1st semester be grounds for a rescinded acceptance?

I doubt it would affect you negatively. That’s quite good.

schminke are you insane or humblebragging or what?

you can’t be seriously asking that.

Or. He’s super smart and feels that a B is equivalent to failure in life. It’s not, I think.

…first of all, I have ovaries. Don’t know where you got the idea that I’m male.

I asked because it seemed like everyone was on the topic of grades, getting rescinded from colleges, and whatnot, and your example was of an international student in a different grading system. I was just curious about colleges’ standards for an American student’s midyear report.

Sorry if the way I worded my question offended anyone.

Well. It would be due to some ingrained mysogynistic bias towards the male species, I think. Somewhat.

Regardless, as long as somebody doesn’t do too poorly, it shouldn’t be a problem.

No worries. Most people are freaked out. Judgeme… I mean, results day is approaching, y’aknow. I get mine on Friday the 13th(International time difference thingy). Oh the irony.

me too! friday the 13th :(

schmincke: I get that this is a nerve wracking time but I think you had a common sense lapse when asking your question. Basically you’re asking if colleges rescind people for one B.

Think about it. Don’t listen to the other chatter of anxiety-ridden students.

Oh look. A terminator.

You actually don’t need a cutoff score.

And I know a guy who got straight C’s after getting in and he is still brown class of 2016…

@kiwisarecool.

No, Im definitely not outstanding. Thats why when my counselor told me that, I was shocked that they were considering me. But I wouldn’t take it too seriously. I have a 30 ACT, great essays and alright EC’s (soccer captain, 300+ community service hours) but am an URM. They probably want to see how im doing in AP calc, since i put engineering as my 2nd choice. I have an 88

Where is everyone getting the Dec 12 date? It just says ‘mid december’… ?
