@xoxo254 you don’t have to worry about that. I had the same issue and I called the admissions office, they said it will have no impact on admissions and financial aid can be calculated at a later date.
@cka1876 Not sure about Brown specifically, but I’ve been looking at the Harvard and Cornell results, and some people definitely got in without subject tests. In most cases they seemed to have submitted the ACT instead though. I personally didn’t submit subject tests either, I just submitted the ACT and SAT. Hoping that will be sufficient!
Thanks for the info and reassurance! I just submitted my act score, hopefully that’s enough ://
@cka1876 I’m not sure…I did that too (I took them very last minute without prep and didn’t do as well as I could have so I didn’t submit them). I submitted my ACT (without writing because my school did an in school test and didn’t offer writing) in addition to my SAT (with writing), and I’ve seen that if you submit ACT then you don’t have to do subject tests (this could be wrong?). I hoping maybe my ACT sub scores will kind of check that box (hopefully). I did see something from an admissions officer that said not having subject tests would not affect your admission, but idk if they really mean that.
When are the Early Decision results coming out ?
Well, better than submitting subject tests that you totally bombed like I did. I submitted them before I saw them–I should’ve just cancelled my scores. I was really sick when I took the tests and it was the October date so I couldn’t retake them…
@swissgal who knows? lol
Subject tests are definitely not required, but they might give you an advantage. I submitted an ACT and two subject tests (35comp ACT, 800 chem, 790 math II) and honestly I don’t think that scores matter much because I still think I have a very low chance of being accepted and I know many people with 35/36s and solid 800s on subject tests who got rejected everywhere.
Now I am in a state of self-denying… I don’t think I have any advantages besides good GPA (which most people do have) and after I saw many other ED (not only brown but other schools as well) students’ info I feel like my EC are so weak and I am not confident in my essays either…
It really depresses me because I got decent SAT scores and everything else in my application is very good and I think I’m a perfect match for Brown but I feel like my subject tests will be the death of my application. I hope they don’t matter very much–I don’t think that 2 hours on a random Saturday morning should mess up all of the hard work I’ve done for like the past 12 years ya know? They do say that admissions is holistic, but subject tests are trash :(.
@sciencenerd123 ugh me too, I totally messed up on them and I am so worried that they won’t be able to look past that. If you don’t mind, which ones did you take?
Do you guys think that a 5 on the apush exam will make up for a 690 on the sat is history subject test? Or is it just impossible?
I took Math II and Lit last minute. I wish I took my subject tests earlier so I would’ve had time to retake them. They were not good at all, and I sent them in without seeing them. My math is especially bad since I applied for Biomedical Engineering but like I said I have so much else going for me I’m just hoping and praying they see that. Standardized tests stress me out and I’ve never been good at them and to top it off I was extremely sick the day of the exams.
@sciencenerd123 @redsoxfan18 I am not talking about CSS, I submitted that by the deadline. I am talking about the financial aid documents Brown requested Thursday last week. It has been a whole week before I uploaded!
@floridanerd THANK GOD!!!
@geugen it would’ve been better not to submit them, but to be honest I don’t think it will particularly negatively affect you as you will be being compared to many applicants who didn’t take subject tests at all. Same goes for @sciencenerd123. Honestly it’s hard to predict but we’ll hear back soon, and I really really hope for the best for all of you
