Brown Class of 2023 Applicants Discussion

Me too. I know a few kids who are in/graduated from PLME, and I’m kinda in love with Brown

Me too. (for PLME)
Fingers crossed!!

Ive already put plme out of my mind. My sat score is too low (low 14s)

I’m giving myself consecutive stress headaches I can’t stop thinking about college

I just realized I haven’t been contacted for the interview, and haven’t submitted the video portfolio either!! Is this optional and will it effect my negatively. What can I do now?! Can I submit it now?!!

@blackhairedgirl Yeah! YOu can send the video still.

Send it by this monday. Otherwise…that speaks badly. Currently it doesnt speak badly (there’s still a week before they finalize everything)

Mostly theyll review it. Mostly since this month is hectic for them.

@blackhairedgirl @TheGuy1
As I remember, the deadline to submit the video was March 1st. However, if the option is still available on your portal, then go for it!
Good luck!

@theDOVE Well that doesnt affect me, but i think theres an applicant supplemental material uploading feature below.

Idk about the deadline, since I had my interview back in mid-jan. Maybe u can give it, idk.

There’s no specific upload space for the interview though.

@blackhairedgirl The deadline for submission has passed (March 1st). Please see below from Brown website. It sounds like you asked for an interview and no alumni was available in your area? Don’t worry the lack of a video submission should not impact your decision under this scenario.

From Brown Admissions timeline…

"Video Portfolio & Alumni Interview

After you have submitted the Common Application you will receive access to your Brown Applicant Portal. Once logged into your Brown Applicant Portal you will be given the option to submit a 2-minute personal video portfolio OR opt-in for an alumni interview.
The video portfolio and alumni interview are treated equally; we do not prefer one over the other.
The deadline to make your decision is November 9 for Early Decision and January 9 for Regular Decision.
The deadline to submit a video portfolio is December 1 for Early Decision and March 1 for Regular Decision."

@TheGuy1 when you advise… "You can send the video still.

Send it by this monday. Otherwise…that speaks badly. Currently it doesnt speak badly (there’s still a week before they finalize everything)"

You are not just giving uninformed, erroneous and easily accessible advice. You are potentially harming another candidates chances. If she had followed your advice and submitted it this week she would look lazy for not looking it up. At this stage files are considered to be complete with very few exceptions and AOs are not going back to look at past due submission material.

Please be considerate of others

Wow, the “beginning at midnight on March 14, 2019, the checklist on your Brown Applicant Portal will no longer be available for viewing” email from Brown nearly gave me a heart attack before I opened it and saw what it was… March 28 is so close it’s crazy. Good luck everyone !

It’s so close yet so far…

Just saw the email — almost gave me a heart attack…
Im losing hope :((

@Nocreativity1 Sorry if my advise hurt anyone, but i thought submitting it asap still makes sense as there more data, especially if youre confident of producing a great video, for the adcom to eval u on, and the material will play to ure strengths.

IMO take a calculated risk. THey may/not assume of your laziness, though idk if they really do that.

If you really think it’ll be phenomenal, then go ahead. Otherwise, dont. Its upto u.

BUt most definitely the option to upload additional files is available on the portal.

Note: Idk again if there was a specific upload page/feature for the video itself.

TheGuy1 It is a deadline for submission not a suggested timeline. This timeline is readily available and has been in place for months. March 1st was the last day, in reality the expectation is that an interested applicant wouldn’t wait until the last day and then let it pass. (This candidate sought an interview so no harm). A submission at this late date will not be reviewed. Admissions officers have neither the time or inclination to review material after the factprovidung a second look. By now the file has been reviewed and no second bite of the apple is going to take place.

In an adult world someone submitting something of importance 2 weeks passed due is perceived negatively. Sending it now suggests you knew it needed to get it done but either forgot, didn’t prioritize it or can’t handle deadlines. None are great messages

When you state authoritatively “Send it by this monday. Otherwise…that speaks badly. Currently it doesnt speak badly (there’s still a week before they finalize everything)”, you are giving advice that is factually incorrect, uninformed and potentially harmful.

@PianoWinterfell @kimtaehyung What email are you referring to from Brown? Did you just receive it today? My son didn’t get any emails from Brown recently. Thx???

@lakergirl6232

Theres an email from Brown stating when the dec will be released formally from them, and the applicant checklist will be shut down in a few days.

@lakergirl13 Check junk mail too. My son received the email at around 2 a.m. local time earlier today.

@lakergirl6232 It’s just an email stating that decisions will be out on the 28th. I got it around 4am today. Check junk mail - pretty sure they send it to everyone.

@TheGuy1 @NM-Parent-000079 Checked my son’s junk mail & spam folders–no email from Brown. But I’m not surprised. My son doesn’t get half the standard emails from colleges that his twin brother receives—but then he’s gotten admitted to the colleges that he didn’t get the emails from. I think there must be some kind of weird glitch with his email. It’s just bizarre…Still it makes me mental!

@lakergirl6232 Are you sure it’s not in there? I almost missed this email from Brown when I was checking my mailbox earlier today
