@kerlykerls U can, but its nothing. Its just a policy for each school for easier admit resource access. Harvard and MIT have separate webpages for this, for example.
brown was never on my list of institutions requesting IDOC until last week. not reading into it because i don’t want to get my hopes up ofc. but will be sure to post my decision here next week for future classes to try to decipher if that means anything haha
hmm just checked in Banner self service and the date for different forms from IDOC are listed as March 6, 2019. my CSS and FAFSA are still listed as January. we shall see!
Not having Brown as a school on the IDOC list doesnt mean anything regarding chance. I answered this before.
The anxiety and stress of this process is wearing on most applicants and parents of applicants. The anxiety is like a thick fog on the forums! But CC forums are normally really supportive. Unless you’re a moderator, forum champion, someone with demonstrated prior knowledge of the process, lurking AO or FA officer please just be supportive. It doesn’t seem to be necessary to respond to every single comment or question and certainly not in a negative condescending tone. One more week until Ivy Day! Good luck to all!
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Actually, there is no “unless.” Might I remind members of the forum rules: “Our forum is expected to be a friendly and welcoming place.” But please do not conflate rudeness with frankness. Additionally, all users in good standing are free to participate on any forum on this site. So one does not have to be an current applicant, or a parent of one, to participate.
If one doesn’t like what a user has to say, one is certainly free to ignore. And if a user behaves badly, flag the post and let a mod deal with it. But don’t stoop down to their level by responding in kind.
@dreamthief001 I also just got a request from IDOC a few days ago? In my banner self-service, the date for the additional forms is listed as march 20th (w/ the fafsa and css still listed as january). I hope that it’s a good sign! But I also don’t wanna get my hopes up ahhh
oh dear . . . they haven’t requested any IDOC forms for me. I hope this doesn’t mean anything ??
@mutantninjacat i wouldn’t worry! they say really clearly in one of their FAQs that they only request them from some people. so while we wonder if getting the request might be a good sign, im definitely not saying that NOT getting the request means rejection!
@dreamthief001 phew! Thank you for clearing that up. Best of luck to you!
IDOC forms are requested only for some apps where they cant determine aid and need more data via IDOC and more family info like that.
Hence, only a few families are requested for IDOC by Brown.
Brown Is different that way.
Not getting one doesnt mean anything, nor does getting one.
At best, it might mean you’re not out of the game.
Here’s proof from Brown’s own webpage where they wont lie about this:
https://www.brown.edu/about/administration/financial-aid/idoc-questions-and-answers
Stated concisely as: “Not all families are requested by Brown to submit to IDOC. If no requirements appear as outstanding on Brown’s Banner self-service, we have all the necessary information to determine the students’ financial aid eligibility at this time. Once the Office of Financial Aid reviews your initial application materials for financial aid, which may include only the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and/or the CSS PROFILE, we may later request additional information through IDOC. The Office of Financial Aid will notify the student via email if additional information is needed. In cases where an incoming applicant may have already submitted to IDOC for another school, Brown simply downloads the IDOC data at that time.”
Hope this helps anyone who’s new to Brown’s different operation schemes.
@mutantninjacat ^^ that was the info I was referring to good luck!
@dreamthief001 @mutantninjacat Glad to have helped
Less than a week till Ivy Day you guys!! it is definitely both nerve wrecking and exciting!
Ahhh it’s gonna be a massacre for me. I can literally see all those rejections coming
I was browsing through CC threads from previous years. I was shocked! So many people with high stats and unique ECs and interesting essays were rejected from top schools. It’s really a crapshoot. There is a girl from Idaho who had a 4.0 & 1570. National Merit SF and US Presidential Scholar nominee, and is a competitive alpine ski racer and a legacy at Princeton. She was rejected from all Ivies!!!
Her LORs were great too!
@PianoWinterfell Be wary of the information and stats posted on CC. This website has a reputation for academic record inflation and eliciting profiles with an insane (and maybe an unhealthy) amount of extracurricular activities from over-achievers and helicopter parents of over-achievers.
@PianoWinterfell every applicant is different. Chill out and see how colleges view YOU as an applicant
But this is so real!
