Brown Class of 2023 Applicants Discussion

Is there a set time that decisions will be released on Ivy Day?

I think it is Ivy Blackout, though adcom members may contact the GC in HS for some stuff (possibly double checking some data before admitting them according to my HS GC).

@“SpecialK

7pm EST 3/28 is the start time.

Did anyone else see a document called Brown University Current Student Application in their IDOC requests?

@mattm2019

According to this thread, no one. And I’m decently active here. I’m mostly right, but apologies otherwise.

Even in last years threads (class of '22.'21) this didnt happen. (I combed thru, though not in excruciating detail)

Brown didn’t request any IDOC documents from me, while most other universities have. Is this a bad sign?

@PianoWinterfell Yes.

@mattm2019 I just checked on my IDOC and it says the same, But then again, it also tells me things about Dartmouth and Johns Hopkins which I didn’t apply to. It’d be cool if it meant something, but I doubt it.

@harrypotter3 if you click banner self service it will take u to the brown FA portal and on there if it has specific tax docs like W2’s that were processed on top of the css and fafsa processed, then that is good according to last year wnd the previous year’s thread on here and reddit it means ur likely admitted

@mattm2019 i dont think that means anything the ones that mean ur likely admit r if u have specific tax docs in banner self service and if u have brown in your institutions requested in idoc. Not css profile.

I also have 6 other specific tax docs from March 12th (besides CSS and FAFSA) in my Banner Self Service page if that makes a difference @kerlykerls

I’m hoping someone can answer this question. My D did not complete a CSS with IDOC. However, we do have a FAFSA on file. Do you need a CSS if you’re not requesting financial aid? Also, in her portal, under requested documents, it states no documents requested at this time. However, the CSS is listed as incomplete. I’m concerned that FA did not reach out to request completion. I’m concerned that means she’s not being considered for admission. Brown is her dream school and she will be devastated. Does anyone have any insight?

On the Banner Self Service site I only have CSS and FAFSA listed, and my IDOC says nothing about Brown ?

@stressed2019 i really wouldn’t worry! brown is one of the only universities that is open about the fact that they only use IDOC for some applicants. so whatever the decision is on thursday, whether or not they needed IDOC for your particular FA situation will not have any impact!

Usually I am not one to get in on the frenzy, but I guess I am succumbing to the pressure. Parent here. Daughter denied or waitlisted at all but one of her match schools. As of a few days ago, with all this talk about checking the banner self service portal, i realized we had never checked it. I was upset to see that they had her Fafsa still outstanding, as Brown was put on her fafsa list months ago. I was upset we had never noticed it before but then it struck me that if they were not emailing her for it, she was not getting in. Today I checked banner self service again, and it now says her fafsa requirement has been satisfied as of 3/22. I am curious why at this late date that they would look into her fafsa info. I can already see the replies, “ it means nothing!” , and i am sure you are right but just some last minute weakness on my part! Good luck to you all!

@spring0014 i have similar questions! it doesn’t make sense to me why the FA office would be pulling documents this late if it wasn’t a good sign, but tbh no one is going to know the answer for sure. thursday can’t come fast enough!

Ok even stranger, just noticed we received an email from Fafsa stating that a correction was made to it by your school. Since when can a school make a correction to a fafsa? The date it was processed was the day before Brown noted her fafsa requirement was satisfied. Never heard of such a thing and this is my third kid!

if you have more documents than just FAFSA and CSS in your financial aid banner self service portal it is a very good sign. I cross checked with other schools i’ve gotten into, along with all the threads from previous years. if you don’t believe me, go read them but it looks like if you have other forms listed you are in.

I agree with @dreamthief001

Brown specifically states why they take IDOC from only some families/applicants.

It has nothing to do with acceptance. A kid from my school got in ED without IDOC requests.

My regional admissions counselor contacted my HS GC and said that they’re mostly lettin’ me and 2 other kids from my school in RD. If ur wondering why I got to know about 1.5 weeks early (but im postin’ this now), thats cuz they’re really good friends (lol helped me now). I dont have IDOC requests.

Brown cant lie of their IDOC policy, this literally illegal.

I’m not posting the same link from Brown again and again.

It depend on personal circumstance and data required for eval’ing a comprehensive aid package.

THey wont waste time pulling extra data from everywhere. Also, I get why this dilemma is present, considering that the important docs werent pulled by Brown, and this being rare, but the school itself has assured us.

Its alright guys. Hang in there.

Thank you for sharing your info. It helped alleviate some stress. I guess all we can do is wait ?

So if tax documents are in Banner Self Service, is that a good sign (mine were processed near the beginning of March)?
