I emailed Brown asking this very question a while ago… and no, it’s not required.

I asked him and he said he’s sure that it’s customized because it referenced to some of his experiences related to Brown…

It might just mean “Thx for ur recommendation but we can’t accept this student coz he/she’s not competent enough. We r sending u this letter simply because we appreciate ur enthusiasm and past contributions to the University.” :(

It may seem like a meaningless alumni relations gesture, but don’t discount the advantages that an alumni reference can give you.

Anybody hear anything new?

mid-May still seems so far away!

Have anyone’s payments shown up on their credit/ debit card statements yet? I received the confirmation email from the Common App but it still hasn’t shown up on my debit card statement. Should I be concerned?

I was charged within seconds after paying via the Common App…

Did you pay online with the Common App or another method?

I paid online. I submitted it on March 1st. The Common App shows that payment was received but my statement doesn’t. This is a bit worrisome. Do you think I should call or just wait until they send us our online logins?

Phew, false alarm. Apparently I used my boyfriend’s card instead of mine. Well, that’s a relief! Thank goodness he remembered that.

Glad to hear that everything is alright.

Now we just have to hang tight until whenever they decide to release our application’s statuses.

I just hope I am not missing anything. I am not looking forward to going back to my old adviser to ask that she resubmits the college report (or anything similar). That would just throw salt on our wounded relationship.

I thought they’ll be sending our statuses today; still waiting on it.

The website says that they will let us know after April 1st. I doubt we will get anything until later next week. Decisions were sent to freshmen applications yesterday, and I imagine it will take them a week to wade through the aftershocks.

I don’t think we’ll here back until mid-April.

*hear

(my mistake)

Hoping they got everything (and that they accept me of course!) Really worried that my high school counselor might not have filled out everything correctly. After all, he told me I had to take the SAT’s to go to Community college and that I wasn’t allowed to do running start until my senior year, plus he neglected to tell me that I was valedictorian until I went back to ask him to fill out the form for my application to Brown. Heck, he didn’t even know until after he sent off the paper work. YOu would think he would have known that when I graduated six months earlier but no.
Sorry about the rant, I just am still upset that after all the work I put in and all the extra time I spent working to both graduate and get into a university that NOBODY bothered to let me know I had accomplished something worth being proud of.

It now says on the website that we’ll get the log in info this week. Anxious to see whether they actually got my documents…only time will tell!

Hello everyone, I will be a Freshman in McGill engineering this fall, but I am thinking of applying as a transfer to US schools. If I stay in McGill, I need to study for 3.5 years before graduate.
And for Brown, I can either transfer after my first year, or after my 2nd year.
In my high school I rank top 7% which is not very high for Ivy, SAT ~2250. The score at high school is not very outstanding I think
I intend to join Honour program once I get to McGill, and try to get a high GPA >3.8

So, my question is:
Is it better to transfer after the 1st or the 2nd year?
Which one is more probable, considering if I get a high GPA once I get to McGill?

You haven’t even started at McGill and you want to transfer? Ivy schools have an incredibly low transfer acceptance rate. If you were denied Ivy admission as a freshman, they will not likely admit you as a transfer. If you transfer after your freshman year, Brown will look at you high school and SAT records which you admit are not very impressive. The likelihood of getting a 3.8 at McGill Engineering are minimal unless you work incredibly hard there. Why do you need the “prestige” of Brown? Brown is not even that highly rated in engineering.

@Arcadefire,

A month is a long time to keep everyone waiting!

I am getting so antsy for our login info. I bet we wont get it until Friday. I’m really hoping they received all of my materials.

Dear mid-May,

Please get here right now.

Yours truly,

Man I sure hope I get into Brown for transfer, I sure do hate my current school. I applied to dartmouth too but I think my chances are lower there. If I don’t get into to either i will apply for cornell in the next semester possible but I really hate my program you guys and I think brown is my best bet.
