@hopelessopus12 your admissions officer will definitely not spend his/her time reading your whole research paper, so an abstract may be better.
What do you guys think the thresholds are for test scores for unhooked applicants?
Wow. I just realized that there are possibly less than four weeks remaining until decisions come out… (based on the fact that Brown has released decisions on the second thursday in December for the past several years)
@ap012199 I don’t know their exact “cut off” number, but I feel like I’m in that borderline area :(. Though I did talk to my counselor about my test scores and she did say they look really questionably odd, like I could definitely do better if I didn’t have test stress. She said on her rec letter for me, she also put that down to clear it up. And said from when she worked at Harvard admissions 2 years ago, my test score would not be the main reason I get denied. So idk what to think of that, especially in the context of a “cut-off” score for Brown.
Just got back from my interview and it went pretty well!! It lasted about an hour and a half and we talked about our common interest in screenwriting (my interviewer’s profession). I also talked about my other varying interests and hobbies, and he seemed to be genuinely fascinated. Too bad the interviews are barely weighed during the admissions process
My friend and I applied ED to Brown. Both of us got our account activation but she received an interview request and I didn’t. Does that mean they’re considering her more than me?
@ap012199 a great interview will definitely boost chances of admission. Brown and other colleges like to know their applicants are personable
@ala1001 I’m white, actually, so I was also surprised! He didn’t say anything about race, though.
@allate No, I seriously doubt it. Probably just a back-up issue with sending out all of the ED applicants’ account activation emails.
@johnwayne8321 I don’t agree with you that “a great interview will definitely boost chances of admission”
The vast majority of applicants are either 1) not passing beyond the first reads or 2) shoo ins (recruits & other special cases). That leaves the 3rd group – those who are on the bubble – in my estimation about 20% or less of the entire applicant pool. For those kids, a solid interview MIGHT make a difference. If a student is already in groups 1 or 2, a fantastic interview will not matter whatsoever.
Anyone know when/how we find about about D-day (when decisions come out online)? I’ve seen on other threads that Brown will send an email… not sure when. Also, are decisions only posted online, or do we get an email or letter?
@ap012199 ahh my interview was only 40 mins…should I be worried? it seemed to go really well, and he said I was a “perfect fit”…but it was only 40 minutes…
@allima no, don’t be worried. My mom is an alumni interviewer for Harvard and she says that her interviews last an hour at tops. And to be fair, my interviewer and I probably only talked about Brown specifically for a little bit more than half of the time.
My interviewer also didn’t mention fit or anything to me. He asked me about why Brown would be the best school for me, and he told me that Brown is a good school for curious kids like me, but he didn’t come to the conclusion that I was a “perfect fit.” I wouldn’t be worried at all.
@T26E4 Interviews aren’t game-changers, but a good interview can’t hurt. What are other shoo-in applicants excluding athletic recruits? URMs and legacies?
Any predictions about the number of ED applicants? Last year there were 3,030 ED applicants. I wonder when Brown will publish ED statistics for this year…
If the past is any indication, the day decisions are released or very shortly thereafter.
How do people indicate if they are legacies on the Brown application? There is no place on Brown’s app to do it, unlike most other schools. I understand if your parents went there it will show up on the Common App questions, but if another family member went there how will Brown know?
My uncles did grad school there so I put that under “contacts” for how you found out about Brown. Anyone think Brown will consider this in my application at all?
Would also like to know when they will let us know about the ED notification date.
I know the past few years ED decisions have been posted online the second Thursday of December at 5pm (you log onto your portal) and an “official” letter is mailed soon after.
Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone has a Decisions slot under application data when checking your application status that says: Admission decisions are currently not available.
Please respond to reassure me that we all do and that my application hasn’t already been rejected lol!!
@trixandgiggles I have that too.
@ricka8 unfortunately, having an uncle who attended Brown’s Grad school will have no influence on your admission result.
