Definitely seems to be a pattern of the second Thursday of December. It fits for the last few years, didn’t check back further.
Do you guys think I’ll be able to get through the first read with a 34 super score and a 4.0UW with most rigorous classes? I’m worried that my single score ACT (32.25) will deem me an uncompetitive applicant even though Brown looks at highest subscores. I need some opinions!!
@ap012199 I think you have a great shot based on those stats! Are you sure your scores are being reviewed by admissions? When I look at my portal account, it still shows my ACT score is missing. I had it sent on Sept 29 and ACt says it was delivered. So, I’m guessing they haven’t seen my score yet. I don’t know how they make a cut without scores. What do you think?
guys I just submitted my CSS profile today (yeah I’m an idiot). What’s gonna happen to me?
@greeksalad123 on my Brown account it just says requirement fulfilled, but I sent teo separate ACTs so idk if admissions for both of them. I think I’m going to call admissions tomorrow to ask if they received both of my scores. You should too.
SORRY TO BE SO PUSHY BUT CAN SOMEONE ANSWER MY QUESTION IM FREAKING OUT.
@freshprinceofcc I’m not sure… you can probably find an answer on google.
@freshprinceofcc No one from Brown Fin Aid comes here Call them tomorrow morning. No one here can answer you.
@ap012199 Brown doesn’t recalculate a new composite but they do consider highest section scores. Your scores will not keep you out of Brown. With that being said, never get your hopes up about an Ivy League college UNLESS you’re an athletic recruit. My father, an alum, interviewed about 30 applicants for Brown last year. Only one was accepted, an athletic recruit who applied ED. Last year only 28% of applicants with a 36 ACT were admitted. I don’t mean to be a pessimist and make you all feel small, but I think it’s important right before decisions come out that we remember it’s okay if we don’t get in, because we likely won’t. Don’t lose hope, but don’t become too attached to Brown (unless you’re accepted).
Best of luck to all my fellow applicants! Remember these admissions decisions don’t define who we are.
@johnwayne8321 if anything, I’ve been embracing rejection for the last two weeks lol. My mom is an alumni interviewer for Harvard and none of her interviewees have gotten in. I think it’ll come down to my essay and supplements, which are probably the most subjective things on an application. My history teacher told me that he thinks his rec will push me over (too confident?) but I don’t want to put too much hope into him or myself.
Also, like many other colleges, Brown only reports middle 50% for the math and English sections of the ACT. I’ve heard that at top tier schools – and especially Ivy Leagues – the English and math scores are weighed much more heavily than the reading and science scores as they are much better indicators of college success. Are these rumors true?
@ap012199 I mean it makes sense, at least for science on the ACT…which basically isn’t even science lol
Anybody know when likely letters start rolling out for athletes?
This is to the person who just filed the CSS yesterday - please do call and email financial aid at Brown. They seem to handle communications better than some other schools. The only thing I can suggest, in addition to that, is to be sure that you indicated on your application that you are also applying for financial aid. If you pull up your application in your portal, there is a page that lists requirements and if they are fulfilled…near the bottom there is a line that says yes/no if you indicated your intention to apply for aid. Just be sure that says :YES. If it does not, then you may be able to fix it right there. Best to get that in sync with your intentions. And again, contact financial aid. And remain calm to the extent possible! I’m just the parent of an applicant and still, every day, I worry that we missed something!
Hey guys if I haven’t been contacted about an interview does that mean I probably won’t get in
Also if we didn’t apply with the Css it won’t affect our admission will it?
@charjets http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/810532-brown-interview-faq-and-answers.html
@Monarch24 If you’re an athlete, that question should be directed at the coaches.
If we haven’t been contacted for an interview, do we really have to call admissions? Can’t we just assume we are one of the few not being interviewed?
And what exactly is the point of me contacting the fin aid office at this point? Just to make sure they got my CSS profile?
About interviews: email interviewing@brown.edu. Could be worth the effort. k
About financial aid: if you submitted the css late and are worried if you can still be considered for financial aid, then it’s worth touching base with them to ask.

what is css???
-
my mom is an alumni interviewer for brown and she hasn’t gotten any students yet in terms of interviewing – your person might just be slow. i applied early and have not received an interviewer yet.

according to my mom the purpose of interviews for brown is more for the students to ask any questions they have – it can be a way to raise any potential red flags but like it isnt if you have a bad interview it will lessen your chance of getting in, unless you really screw up
