@anponpon your mother should be relieved of interviewing this year since you are applying. My dad therefore is not allowed to interview because of my application
^yeah same with my mom for Harvard
ED notification date is posted.
Looks like they are breaking tradition (not the 2nd Thursday of Dec)
It says Wednesday December 14
^Hm… sounds like that means there was an influx of ED applications. IDK if that’s good or bad for our chances.
Are you guys going to open your portals for decisions? I might just wait for the letter lol.
@ap012199 Are you kidding?? I wouldn’t be able to wait that long knowing the decision is online!
Do bad standardized test scores put me in a really bad position for Brown? I have a 31 ACT score, which is below their average, so will they throw out my app right away? It sucks because I have a high GPA and am the salutatorian of my school but I just can’t take standardized tests
@hopelessopus12 first of all, GPA is a way better indicator of how you will perform at Brown, and the admissions officers know that. I don’t think a 31 will throw you into the no pile right away. Brown is very holistic, so if you have a great story in your app, I think you’ll stand a solid chance.
Do you guys have a status for every requirement on your Brown portal? The only things that I have status for are my application payment and my tests.
my portal account says they’re still processing some of my application materials? but everything’s been received so i’m not too worried. and for those who have submitted supplementary materials: does it show up on your portal once you submitted? because mine said it uploaded but it didn’t show up anywhere on the portal that i submitted supplementary material… is that normal?
Does Brown give likely letters for ED applicants, for ones who are not athletes? I heard about these but don’t really see the point for ED.
@littlemousling I uploaded a visual art portfolio and nothing about it is on the portal.
@profdad2021 I don’t think Brown does that for ED.
Good about no likely letters for ED. Think it might freak everybody out to hear about a ton of likely letters before the December decisions come out!
There’s really no need to issue Likely Letters in the ED period. The athletic recruits have been instructed to do so and already know their outcome – everyone else – well, they CHOSE Brown to apply under binding ED. The purpose of LLs is to attract the attention of great applicants early and hard so they don’t get wooed away by other top colleges.
That condition doesn’t exist in Brown’s ED pool. It would be an expenditure of efforts w/o any benefit – in an already tight evaluation window.
They are allowed to be issued however – I can imagine a coach getting some for recruits still in the pipeline (i.e that haven’t yet applied ED or RD).
I have not gotten an interview email yet. Should I be concerned/ anyone else in the same boat? I believe interview reports from alumni interviewers are due to brown by Dec. 1 :-/
@ap012199 same. the only statuses that show up for me are “paid” for application fee and “requirement fulfilled” for testing
@littlemousling yeah I submitted there & it didn’t show up on my portal even though right after I submitted it it said that it did successfully upload. I called brown admissions and they said it’s there, even though it doesn’t show
if we sent more than one test to Brown and the portal says “requirement fulfilled,” should we just assume that Brown received both test scores?
URGENT QUESTION: I got a 19 on the ACT writing (essay), which is absolutely insane because I am a pretty good writer and got a 35 C on the ACT (36R, 35W, 35S, 34M).
All of the essays I wrote for the application are also good and well-written, so do you think my horrible essay score will be simply overlooked and brushed off as negligible?? Or could it have a bad impact on my application?
I called admissions at a few schools very similar to Brown and they said they hardly even look at the essay, especially since it’s new now and when I took it (Sept 2015) it was brand new. Hopefully Brown will do the same thing?!
