I called admissions again yesterday and was told that the first quarter grades are REQUIRED, as in they want them from everyone. They said that they send emails to the counselors requesting the grades if they don’t receive them by a certain day. The lady I spoke to didn’t know when these requests are sent out, but she said definitely soon. On other threads it seems people got the email around 11/20-28.
She said that the counselor should fax your report card to admissions.
sooo… just let our GC deal with it?

What skieuopre means is that during the ED period the only likely letters issued by Brown are to athletes. During the ED period, no one else gets LLs. During the RD round, Brown may issue LLs to particularly strong RD applicants. Ski does not mean to imply that the athlete ONLY get LLs during this period. Brown is allowed to issue LLs anytime btn Oct 1 to Mar 15.
@profdad2021 my portal says they same thing. I think everyone’s is like that.
Does anyone know when decision day is? In previous years it seems to have fallen around December 15th…
@khuie2017 December 14th
@freshprinceofcc No, I would definitely contact your counselor and ask him/her about it. Mine had no idea the grades were required, and I had to tell her Brown said they were required for her to send them.
Since in the past not everyone has received this request email, though, anyone who doesn’t want to send in their grades can wait and see about the request. If you never get it, then it should be okay and you can probably get away with not sending them in (but you and your GC should definitely be checking emails frequently for it).
I have my interview in 30 min!! I’m so nervous hahaha
Does anyone know if we will receive an email for the verdict? Or will we receive a hard copy in the mail? Only reason I am asking is because I often have a tendency to lose track of mail, so if it does come in the mail, I will be extra careful that week.
@marbles24 It’s posted first on your Brown account, and then I think they either email you or send a letter in the mail.
let me put this issue of fist quarter grades to rest:
Brown along with almost every other ED school says go ahead and fax/email first quarter grades if available and they will consider them as part of your application
however, they are in no way required or necessary (unless you are one of those rare people requested to provide them)
no reason to loose sleep or worry
most apps to Brown for ED have great grades all along and this is unlikely to be a game changer
sit tight for 3 weeks…
Hi guys. I just got my brown ED email for a Skype interview, and I am so nervous already haha. I don’t use Skype so I gotta make one as well. Anyone have tips for a Skype interview? He’s a recent graduate (2015). Also, what do you guys think he will ask if you guys got interviewed already?
So exciting that your interivew is coming. Skype is easy. My best suggestion is to set it up well in advance and have a brief skype conversation with someone else so that you can run through the whole process before the day of the Brown interview. And you will get the chance to decide in advance where in your house to have the interview, knowing for sure what behind you is going to be visible on camera. And you can add your interviewer to your skype contacts in advance too. My daughter did her MIT interview via skype and it went well. Best of luck to you!
Which country are you from?
@dk273273 United States
@seirien ahhh. You are pretty lucky. Here in india none of the candidates applying have been given one
@dk273273 Do international applicants tend to get Skype interviews? I’m also surprised it’s over Skype as I live in a state and area I bet has a ton of Ivy League alumni. I hope you do get your chance to interview though!
@seirien Ya they generally tend to get them. In the past India has been active with interviews however this year’s ben an anomaly. Its kind of possible since the deadline to submit interview reports is 1st december so they might not want to delay by making you travel.
@Seirien That’s awesome that he’s a recent grad b/c he can give you really good insight into what Brown will be like so ask him some good questions. Just be prepared to explain your interests, intended major, and why you want to go to Brown. The best part of the interview is that its a conversation. You’ll enjoy it more than you’d expect.
