Brown University class of 2021 ED applicants discussion

@ricka8 lasted about 15 min. not a recent Brown grad–old dude. I’m not the best conversationalist, but I’m not socially awkward. I can’t seem to wrap my head around why it was so short when the shortest interviews last at least 30 min. It was flat out embarrassing to call my parents to pick me up 40 min earlier than I intended. Quite honestly, it kinda ruined my day.

And nothing I mentioned segued into something else. I just answered his question and he would read a new one off the sheet. I hate to complain about this so much and I know it has little effect on admissions but I just really, really wanted to knock it out of the park. Some people have these amazing interviews where they talk for a straight two hours as if the interviewer were a friend and I couldn’t reach this guy on any sort of personal level. Sooooooooo bummed out

@freshprinceofcc please don’t compare your interview to anyone else’s! i really think you’ll be fine- you can’t control how the interviewer went about asking his questions. as long as you answered them thoroughly and were respectful, he’ll have only good things to say about you. please please don’t stress! i really do think this is a minor part of the application, but i’m sure you did absolutely fine. some interviewers treat it more formally than others, which is understandably really nerve-wracking, but it doesn’t indicate anything. just wait it out for a couple more weeks, and you could be really happy with the result

I even tried to bring up stuff about feminism to make it more political & incite some dialogue, but he did not care at allllll.

and thanks @littlemousling. I’m just disappointed because it’s my first real interview and if this is what interviewing for other colleges and eventually jobs feels like, I’m in for a lot of stress lol

Just wondering… who on this thread is a guy? The overwhelming amount of people on this thread seem to be female. Wondering why there’s a big discrepancy…

@freshprinceofcc I agree with littlemousling that it won’t have any negative effect on your application, so that’s good at least. I guess you just got one of the bad apples- besides, he was old you said, so he probably always does his interviews the cold, harsh old-fashioned way. I know a lot of people who have said similar things about older Brown grad interviewers, compared to the younger ones. Try not to let it get to you and don’t take his rudeness peronally!

Also the ivywise blog said that the Ivies usually announce decisions for ED/EA on the same day. Last year they all announced on Dec 10 they say. Wonder why it’s different this year… there’s a range from Dec 8-15.

@ricka8 They announce on the same day for regular decision, never for EA/ED.

My interview was just around 40 minutes. It was a decent discussion, but she didn’t say anything at the end except it was nice talking to you. She seemed pretty relaxed and said she doesn’t have any other interviews until next week. Is it bad she ended it after 40 mins?

@CollageWhat Nope, pretty average probably. Mine was just like that but a bit longer.

Kinda concerned because my brown portal says “We are continuing to process application materials for you. Please continue to check back on this site for updates to the status of your application,” but everything’s been received. does this mean they haven’t reviewed my application yet? is anyone else getting the same message? i think i might call tomorrow…

@littlemousling Me too, I think it means that they are reviewing our applications and the portal will remain with those words until the decisions are out. If you call though, let me know what they say! I hope it doesn’t mean anything bad.

@littlemousling Don’t worry, it says that for everyone.

My interview was about 45 minutes and she didn’t say I was a “good fit” but we had a good conversation and I think I was able to share my passion for Brown. I don’t know how much weight these interviews have, in the end.

in the words of Van Morrison, “You’re my Brown ED girl.”

When you access your Brown account, what does it look like? I have heard that it changes depending on if they have admitted you already? Anyone? Also can anyone go under the Personal Section and Access meal plans?

@IloveNYU7 it does change when you are admitted, but I don’t think anyone has officially been admitted besides athletes. My account has 3 tabs and has been the same since I got it. I can’t access meal plans because those are only available to enrolled students. What does yours look like (if you have one)?

Mine’s the same as yours @ap012199

I was thinking we could post our stats and stuff and then estimate our chances so people can see what others that they’re similar to expect? Anyone wanna do that? Because I have an estimate for me but I would love to know what other people think about their chances too so I know if my guess is crazy or not lol.

@ricka8 i have no idea what my chances are. I’ve been thinking about it, and I’ve consoled myself by coming to the conclusion that there are more reasons to accept than deny me…but then again, when the acceptance rate is sub 10%, you’ll never know exactly what they’re looking for.
