@ap012199 I don’t think it is… I hope. Though, my school’s method of class ranking is really messed up, which has a strong impact in admission decisions. I think in the past 6 years, only 2 people went to ivies, 1 to Harvard and 1 to Columbia. Also, it sucks to live in a very competitive state.
Everyone needs to drop this rash of speculation about tabs on your online portal. Brown isn’t that stupid.
I get the nervousness of trying to look for any sign of movement but people need to let the process run its course. It’ll be OK. The earth won’t split if you do or do not get into Brown. If you’re even remotely qualified for Brown, then 99.99998% likely to have a successful collegiate career, wherever you attend.
You’ll be ok.
I attend a Gifted and Talented STEM public high school in NYC and we’ve never had anyone accepted at Brown. Between 5-10 kids apply each year and, according to Naviance, their grades and scores were in the range for Brown. Makes me wonder why my high school has this track record. Any ideas?
@Seirien oh, that sucks. But my school doesn’t even report class rank (although I know what mine is lol).
@greeksalad123 that’s odd, but then again, Brown only accepts ~9% of students.
no…don’t worry. i think we figured out that we have tabs from summer courses. it means nothing!!
Brown asked my counselor for first quarter grades just now - I am so nervous because I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing?! I am freaking out - I got an 86 in AP Lit first quarter, a notoriously hard course at our school, and this was my only B first quarter. I am taking 4 other AP’s and the rest of my grades are A’s and A-'s. Can anyone give me any advice/reassurance about brown asking for these grades? Has anyone else received a request from brown asking for first quarter grades?
Oh no:( I got 3 B+'s in first quarter (the rest were A’s). but i’m also doing full IB so all of my classes are intense. idk i don’t think i’m gonna get in, at this point
Don’t worry, I doubt that a single B will be the deciding factor in their decision
@marbles24 If you don’t mind me asking, what was your GPA before this first quarter? I didn’t get a request from Brown but I did send in my first marking period grades last week when others here said they were getting requests.
@greeksalad123 my GPA was not great. I had a 4.219 weighted, and a 3.824 unweighted
@marbles24 one thing that can definitely be said is that they asked for your quarter grades b/c the are starting to look at/have looked at your app (I think lol). Good luck!
@marbles24 That sounds like an excellent GPA! I think they’re asking everyone for them, so I wouldn’t worry. My GPA is a little bit over 95.0. I don’t know how to convert it to a scaled number. How do you figure that out? My school doesn’t do that for us.
@greeksalad it’s different for every school. Have you ever gotten a B? If not, then it would be a 4.0 most likely, but some schools don’t award 4.0s to A- grades.
My school grades on 0-100 scale. I’ve never gotten anything less than 90 and that was in 9th Grade. So, I’m guessing it is a 4.0 or something like that.
Yeah, sounds like it! College board also converts any 100 point GPA above a 94 to a 4.0.
should i be fine with my first quarter grades? i’m doing full IB and had all A’s and 3 B+'s… in previous years i’ve ended with all A’s. i don’t want my first quarter grades to be reason for rejection. my weighted gpa is a 4.517
Just got my email from an alum today, I’m interviewing with him on Thursday. So nervous!
Just a couple of quick thoughts to add to some of the recent comments on the portal. Athletes get likely letters which essentially indicates that the student will be admitted unless something goes awry with their “academic or social standing”. They are not officially admitted yet and don’t’ get official admittance until the same day as everyone else. Their online portals look the same as everyone else. As someone else mentioned, Brown isn’t going to update some portals in advance. They’ve been doing this for far too long and know what they are doing. All admittance notices will be posted the same day. In terms of Naviance, my child’s school uses Naviance and for at least for their school it is NOT class of 2017 data that is shown. It is data from prior years. While I can’t say for sure what other schools show, it makes so sense to show 2017 data now since it’s not complete and wouldn’t provide any value. The purpose of the scattergrams is to show you how past classes fared in the application and admission process, to give you a sense of how your stats compare to prior years’ of applicants.
Hey guys, I just realized that my parent’s ED agreement has still only been submitted and not downloaded. Should I be concerned?
How can you see that? I mean, where? On the common app? At the Brown portal?
