Brown University class of 2021 ED applicants discussion

@ayemate99 my school reports unweighted GPA so I’ll have a 4.0 on my transcript but I believe my weighted is a 4.79. I take the most rigorous course load at my school so my weighted GPA is quite high; I think UW means more, though. Brown will also put your grades into context based on rigor and test scores. I have a 34 superscore and Brown looks at highest sub sections. I’m more worried about my test scores than anything else, and that worry has been perpetuated through this site lol.

@jejiang True, inhale exhale. I feel better now

@ap012199 That is a stellar GPA. I only know one guy from my school who has a higher one. I’m positive you’ll get in. GPA holds slightly more significance than test scores.

@ayemate99 knocking on wood lol. That would be nice. We’all just have to wait and see!

And BTW your GPA is definitely not low unless your UW is below a 3.5.

I feel like weighted GPA is kind of a bad metric, so it’s good that they use UW/situational

@ap012199 Thank god, my UW is a 3.8 and I’m also taking a huge load. I’m taking five APs this year, wbu?

lol my test scores are kinda below brown’s average. i’ve had straight a’s all four years of high school (3.98 UW and 4.51 weighted), so i was hoping that’d boost me. but 1st quarter i got 3 B+'s and the rest were solid A’s but i’m terrified that’s just gonna knock me down again. i’m also doing full IB and the classes are so much harder this year. idk, i really hope they don’t put too much weight on one quarter

@ayemate99 my school doesn’t have APs because they don’t believe in “teaching to a test,” but I’m enrolled in 5 honors classes this year into which students must test. I took 4 in sophomore and junior year, and one freshman year. I also took a couple AP tests and passed both of them w/o studying lol. Last year’s graduating class got into really good schools and now my school is known as the school whose kids go wherever they want haha. So I’m not too worried that my school doesn’t offer AP classes. I think it actually makes applicants from my school stand out more. IDK.

damn just being on CC makes me doubt more and more lol. @ap012199 haha my school has the same reputation. good thing they don’t send out rankings. my class has a few more geniuses than usual.

i just hope my essays and ECs can compensate for my subpar GPA. i did get a 33 composite on the ACT. that should compel them to at least consider me.

@ayemate99 yeah CC has definitely made me doubt myself multiple times.

I’m curious how Brown will look at an ACT with a 33 comp vs. 2 ACTs that superscore to a 34 with 32 composite scores individually.

Brown says, “For the ACT, we consider the highest scores submitted for each section; however, we do not calculate a super scored ACT Composite score.”

But if Brown just considers highest scores submitted for each section, do they even look at composite??

@ap012199 i honestly wouldn’t know. in my opinion, it shouldn’t be a big of a deal if they truly consider the highest subscores

From a parent’s perspective - cruising around CC makes ME feel optimistic. Generally optimistic, that is. True, it makes me over-think whether MY kid can possibly get admitted to Brown, the school of her dreams, but on the up side, the posters here are so supportive and positive and genuine. Even the occasional sarcastic posts are in good humor. This is a GREAT group of applicants and if I were on the admissions panel, I would accept each one of you. If my kid ends up in college with even just one or two of you, she will be lucky. So hang tough. Decisions will be out in due time, although it DOES seem like a long wait.

^that’s so nice! and very true, especially for Brown ED applicants

^^ that post makes me so happy. Couldn’t agree more!

And personally, I am at a point where I don’t believe test scores matter once you reach a certain threshold… Like we all have AMAZING test scores when put in perspective. I really feel that what matters is the type of person you are and what you’ve done with the resources you have. Brown wants to admit passionate people, not robots who can only “go through the motions.” Rigid numbers can only get us so far. I hope each and every one of you keeps that in mind as decisions grow near because you all have such unique interests/perspectives to offer!! Obsessing over test scores isn’t going to do you anymore good!

@ithinkuracontra just wanted to say that really made my night. it’s 1:44 am right now and i’m just overthinking everything (sat scores, grades, etc) so of course, i checked this thread again and wasn’t expecting to find a message so reassuring. thank you so much for being positive. i can sleep peacefully now haha

I totally relate! I’m just happy the next ten days are insanely packed for me or I’d probably be more anxious in anticipation.

@littlemousling i’m more than happy to help reassure  it’s all going to work out in the long run!

Did anyone here take the new sat? what are your scores like? i probably shouldn’t be asking this now…im just going to get myself nervous 10 days before the decision…im just paranoid. my username isn’t parisgeller for nothing lol

Do any of you guys have tips for a future ED applicant?

@2023doctor Are you currently a junior?

@parisgeller I didn’t take the new one, but I’d say that a mid 1400s score is probably the norm for Brown. 32 is the average ACT which equates to around a 1480. I really don’t think that test scores mean much once you pass the threshold. After you “meet the requirements” for test scores, Brown wants to know why they should accept you as a person. Brown wants to know what makes you different from the other 3000+ ED applicants.
