he applied ED to Brown and was accepted just now
had also applied EA to Tulane as back up and was accepted there yesterday
hit twin brother has applied ED to Johns Hopkins and is anxiously awaiting next Friday
I don’t understand why people are getting personal calls from admissions. It seems unfair and against their normal policy which is to tell kids at the same time.
I just called admissions and asked about these phone calls and she confirmed that the admissions officers did call and email a few applicants to let them know they were admitted. I asked if there was any reason why (like if they were recruited athletes or something) and she didn’t say…She didn’t seem to want to talk about it, so I’m guessing this is a very rare thing and they don’t want it getting around that they call a few applicants early.
@cereal3 @algparis99 where are you all from?? maybe its only a specific regional admissions officer thats doing this! I’m going crazy waiting for decisions haha
I hope that Brown admissions experiences a sufficient "upside’ to these early, personal notifications to justify the downside – increased anxiety for everybody else and an increased sense of the unfairness of it all.
I think it’s for super special applicants, like with a unique background or something. Maybe just to give them their personal congratulations? No idea though… just speculating
Florida
Hang in there !
only a few more days
best of luck to everybody
Congrats to those who got accepted. Don’t let the reaction to the concept of special, early notifications detract from your excitement. Bad bad Brown admissions. Good good accepted students!!
@cereal3 was there anything particularly special about your son’s application?
This whole process is so unpredictable and unfair, I just don’t understand why admission office would add more grief to the process
I’m sure everyone’s application is special
He has super high scores on “the tests”
Is an accomplished writer and essays were certainly memorable
But not anything many of you posting don’t also bring to the table I am sure
Telling applicants in advance of the decision date, to just a few kids, makes me feel like Brown isn’t the right school for me. That is a serious breach of responsibility to the process-- to its fairness and transparency. I’m happy for those who heard already, but I’m seriously questioning if I want to go there now.
@greeksalad123 I definitely agree with you. I just lost my respect for Brown’s admissions. It just makes the rest of the applicants more nervous and feel hopeless. Why even call at all?
So is the general consensus that they didn’t contact every accepted ED applicant? Did they just contact those who saw the glitch?
I honestly think it’s ridiculous that Brown admissions did this. However, congratulations to those that got in!!
I didn’t apply to Brown ED, but about 8 people at my school did. 4 got the “special” phone call… seems like an unusually high ratio if indeed Brown is just calling “a few” special applicants. Really unprofessional on the part of the admin officers.
yeah i think its just people who had a glitch cause they didnt want to confuse those people and then leave them hanging @ap012199
@yrose17 did they all get in?
the ones who didn’t get the call wouldn’t know @ap012199
