Brown University class of 2021 ED applicants discussion

@ap012199 are you sure? wow, that must suck. Getting a glitch saying your accepted then receiving a phone call saying your not. If they were rejected over the phone, surely the admissions rep provided some info about what happened.

@parisgeller did you see the glitch or were you just called? Do you think all admitted ED applicants got a call?

@appleby1 yeah, but idk if the glitch said they were admitted.

@ap012199 Could you possibly the ask person?

@appleby1 I don’t know the person directly, just though a friend.

@ap012199 But, your sure they received a phone call and were rejected. If that’s the case, I would just leave it as a localized glitch.

What happened exactly? I’m trying to sort this out.

Some kids saw they got accepted on their portal today? And some kids saw they didn’t get accepted? And those that saw something-- either positive or negative-- which was obviously a glitch, they got calls…?? And the rest of us who didn’t see anything change on our portals didn’t hear anything…?

So - is this the story? There’s a glitch that results in decisions being posted on applicant portals (and maybe some mistaken decisions). Brown fixes the glitch and notifies all those they believe were affected by the glitch. Much drama ensues. THEN because they know how the world works (i.e., information and misinformation spread like wildfire) they post a quick announcement on their admissions page (right above where they posted that ED decisions would be available to everybody on December 14), just letting everybody know what happened. THIS information also spreads quickly. The drama abates.

But they didn’t post that update. Silly silly Brown admissions. Even the most well-meaning professionals make mistakes from time to time. I was totally annoyed by all of this and my daughter was made more anxious by all of this but of course, she STILL loves Brown!

Too be honest, I think very few people were affected by the glitch. There is no noise on the twitter sphere about anyone being accepted so it’s probably just a handful of people.

well, this should be a long weekend…

I have lurked on this thread since November but never posted, now I am. There’s enormous pressure on all sides and this is definitely a stressful process, hopefully, it will go well. Y’all are great people.

Did everyone who got in get a phone call, or no? I got a phone call from Russia today and I didn’t pick it up. (I don’t use my phone function like ever so no one would actually call me)

@tku980 Best guess - only a “handful” of calls were made, presumably to clean up a computer glitch on some applicant portals. But that’s just a guess.

so since consensus is the calls/glitches were localized…Anyone from SF Bay Area get a call? - Just an anxious ED applicant :-S

This is a really off policy move. I was hoping to apply rd to brown, so I hope this is a school that did so because it was cleaning up a computer cliche, not because of personal gains. I hope their newspaper covers this.

my portal won’t even let me log in?? like it just says admissions decisions will be available on the 14th but there’s no log-in option. is it bad if i didn’t get a phone call?!! i have no clue what’s going on lol

@profdad2021 if it’s a localized glitch then I’m in trouble… kids that attend a school near mine got phone calls today… some were accepted and some rejected. Really hope it’s a school-by-school situation.

@littlemousling yeah some other applicants weren’t able to log onto their portal… IDK what it means.

@user34567 I am from the SF Bay Area and did not get a call.

Is not receiving a call a bad thing?

@ap012199 if some were rejected too, then i dont think you have to worry. Its not like they wont give you a decision on the 14th

@littlemousling are you logging onto selfservice.brown.edu or the admissionsdecision.brown.edu account. The admissionsdecisions site doesnt let u log in but the selfservice one should

@parisgeller did they provide a reason as to why they called you to give a decision?
