oh, i was accepted, too... i was going to take 2 mini courses (one was design, which i REALLY wanted to do) but i opted for another program in the end. brown is so expensive @___@

YEAH I KNOW! ugh..
I wanted to apply for the financial aid but they only offered it to US citizens.. and I'm still a Permanent Resident =(

I'm really really excited about summer @ brown though! ^.^

I'm taking a ONE-week mini course on finance. The purpose is to see if I would like it as a basis of my future career, but I don't know if I would get much out of it.. Now that I think about it, it IS quite short. Has anyone taken a one-week course yet? What did you think about it?

Anyone taking Intro to Macroeconomics session 3A...i can't find anyone else taking it =(

Has anyone taken a one-week course yet? What did you think about it?

My daughter took a one-week course in writing last year as a rising junior. She said that it was great, that she learned a lot and enjoyed it. It was taught by a graduate student who I think was studying European literature.

It can depend on the teacher, though. Her roommate took the same course but from a different teacher, and didn't seem to learn as much. Still enjoyed it.

$2075 for a one-week course is steep. Five days, actually. The cost isn't quite as bad if you find that any of the other offerings during the week interest you.

Still, it appears to be a fine program. I hope so; D is going back for a three-week science course this year.

Is it too late to apply if you want to go for a course thats in late june or mid july?

No SweetM, but your app fee is now $80 (as opposed to $40). And a lot of the courses are free.
I was accepted as of today :D They didn't tell me what course, though.

Oh, also,I'm session 3B I think.

Thanks emag! I hope I have fun & learn a lot.

I am going to be there from June 22 to July 25. All of these good reviews and stories are making me excited, and now I can't wait to go.

Anyone else taking stem cells and regenerative medicine from June 22-July 12?

I went there for three weeks last year and I can't wait to go back!

im not but ill be there at the same time! im taking greek mythology through ancient masterpieces

I'm also taking Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine during the June 22 session. It looks like it will be an interesting course.

I'm thinking of applying for one of these:
-Reading, Writing & Public Speaking
-The US in World Politics
-Leadership for Social Change
-The 7 Wonders of the Ancient World
-Facebook, MySpace, and the Development of the Social Self
-Fundamentals for Calculus (Functions & Equations)

Has anyone gone to one of these? What did you think?

Woah there's a class on Facebook and Myspace?
That's awesome. lol I went last summer but was just checking up on this thread, but wow they have cool classes this year.
Summer@Brown is awesome btw. :)

random questions:
is anyone renting a fridge?
for those who went previous years, did you guys rent a fridge??
and it said to bring desk lamp.. they do have LIGHTS in the dorms right?
and is anyone bringing a fan?
what about sheets and stuff?

sorry, just clueless >.<"

Ok, well you def. need to bring sheets. It says for an extra long twin bed, and the measurements are on the website. I'm pretty sure they have lights, but a desk lamp would be good for doing whatever hw we get. Fans can be rented for $25, and then when they are returned we get $20 back. Or you can just buy one for $25, I think. They're big also, and definetely needed since so far this summer, RI has been hotttt!!!!! And I think that a fridge would come in handy if you get hungry in the middle of the night or something, but it's probably not a necessity.

Hey guys, I went last year. :)
I didn't rent a fridge and neither did my roommate.. it might have been nice to have for leftover food or cold water, but we definitely got along fine without it.
And yes there's lights in the rooms, and come to think of it I don't think I ever used my lamp haha. I guess that's because I mostly did my work on my bed lol, or I was typing something in the library. But you also get a lot of light from outside during the day if you leave your shade open.
You need to bring sheets for an extra long twin bed like vab22 said.
and YES bring a fan!! It gets VERRRRY hot during the day. My fan wasn't too big and I survived, but a couple of my friends had bigger ones that were really nice. I couldn't bring a bigger one because I was traveling from really far, but if you can, you might want to.

and a while ago someone on here asked for a list of stuff I suggest they bring.. so I thought I'd share with everyone:

-make sure you have good walking shoes because you have to do a lot of walking and providence has a lot of hills if you walk downtown
-bring stuff for your class! you can always buy it there, but come with notebook paper or a notebook
-i didn't have a laptop to bring, but if you can bring one it will make it SO much easier. i had to go to the library frequently to write papers for my class, and the library closes around 9 PM weekdays and 5 on the weekend (i think?), so it was inconvenient at times. you can survive without a laptop, but definitely bring one if you have one.
-lots of quarters for laundry! it's $1.25 per load
-snacks and water bottles. microwavable popcorn is also good cause there are microwaves in the lounge.
-HANGERS! if you want to hang up your clothes. they give you a few hangers but not many.
-a mirror, full-length if you can.
-something to put your shampoo/conditioner/soap in that can go in the shower with you. i didn't have one, so it was kind of annoying to keep my stuff on the edge and take it in and out cause the showers are small.
-a couple of dressy-ish outfits

hey i just applied the other day to the course because I had a C+ on my transcript that I had to wait to send until it was updated
what is the acceptance rate for students? I'm applying for "putitng ideas into words," which was the only class still open for one week. is it a big lecture hall or multiple classes?
