This is going to be my 1st summer @ Brown----soo excited!!
EEEEK but i do have a question.....haha you all are probably going to think I'm such a prude when you read this but whatever..... so I heard that a lot of people taking mini courses don't go to classes alot and they just spend the whole time smoking and walking around providence....I totally get doing that for sometimes I know part of the point is to experience dorm life, and I can't wait to, but isn't it such a waste of time to be doing 24/7?!?!??? I mean you're at BROWN UNIVERSITY! anyway so I just wanted to know from people who have done courses at brown before if seriously EVERYONE is partying ALL the time and EVERYONE hooks up.....b/c I want the dorm life experience and the meeting new amazing people and all but I also want a prestigious academic experience too....am I crazy?

btw while I'm drawing attention to myself anyone taking putting ideas into words June 24-July 1 or global development July 22 - August 3?

Well, that doesn't make sense. You have one class a day that last 3 hours. Your parents are shelling out 2-5 thousand for this place. Why would anyone do that? Where did you hear that? I mean, it's still an Ivy League campus. If people wanted "24/7 hookups" they would go to some state school for a lot less money and much less hassle. Who do you know who parties "all the time"? I mean, no offense, but you've got to use your own logic sometimes.

There's several Facebook groups talking about all the great times people had walking around on Thayer Street, hanging out in eachother's dorms, getting drunk/high, and "oh yeah, going to class every once in a while." Just type in "summer at brown" in the Facebook search and look around a little to see for yourself. Also, my friend was thinking about going to Brown a while ago and her dad did some research on how well liked it was and he apparantly found that several parents were complaining that their son/daughter had bad roomates who would bring in guys/girls after hours and such and the RA didn't care much what was going on. He actually called the Brown dean up to see if this was true, and he says the dean gave a convincing explanation that he didn't think such things happend much, if at all, and if anything ever does go wrong you should be able to go to the RA and even get a roomate change if possible.....so that made it sound like it was just a few random incidents, but still I found it a little jolting and just wanted to hear from students who had gone there before how much of it is true. Anyway, I'll assume by the fact that you're obviously surprised by this information that it must have been only a few people who had to deal with it, so I won't waste any time worrying about it.
And by the way, we do live in America, and sad to say, 2-5 thousand dollars is nothing to many parents and their spoiled kids. And who do I know who would go to an Ivy League school and party all the time. No, I can't name any I personally know.....but gee, our president comes to mind.....So before you go telling other people to "use your own logic sometimes," consider using a bit of your own first.
