Once you stop referring to US News for educational advice you'll be much better off.

I'm not really concerned about rank, to be honest.. and I don't think you can sum up a university in a number.

I like Brown and this program for a whole host of reasons, integration with the rest of the student body, my specific major, and so forth.. rank wasn't even a consideration for me.

but you've just given weight to rankings in post #40

flip...flop

I think you misread who posted post #40, wolfmanjack.

oops. the brown internet was being terrible earlier

No worries

Anyone know about what time they start contacting people for interviews? What types of questions are asked? Are they evaluative or informative?

I'm not sure when they start contacting people for interviews... or what type of interviews they are, I would assume evaluative though.

I do have a question for you guys... When I ordered a copy of my secondary transcript to send to Brown, I had it officially sent and never really looked at it. The other day, I decided to go get another unofficial copy just so I could see it (it had be over 10 years since then and I was curious as to my scores). My grades are good, other than my senior year... which is awful! I mean just awful. I didn't realizes that they were that bad.... but there was a very good reason that my grades slipped and were that poor, but if you didn't know about the reason you would just think I was incredibly lazy! I was wondering if you guys think that I should send in an addendum explaining this, or do you think it's too late??? Or is it so long ago that it really won't hold much weight? Any thoughts would be appreciate! Thanks guys!

I would imagine they'd place the most weight on your most recent work, the essays and your reasons for wanting to transfer, and the letters of recommendation.. and less weight on your high school records, as you're likely a different person than you were then, and that's going to be reflected best by what you've done most recently.

secondary isn't that important

I wouldn't have seen any issue with sending in an explanation with the application. Since the deadline was over two weeks ago, it might look a little strange to send it in now though. Just my thoughts.

I just got off the phone with Brown admissions, and they said that RUE apps will not finish being "processed" -which I assume to mean collected, collated, and filed- until end of the second week of April. So, if you are thinking about sending something in, might as well give it a shot.

Did they say anything about when they will start calling people to set up the interviews?

Looking at one of the older threads, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/314538-anyone-applying-rue.html?highlight=Resumed+Undergraduate+Education, it looks like most people were contacted for interviews pretty early on in the process.

In that thread, someone had said by the second week in April that decisions would be released next week. So I would expect them to begin contacting people over the next two weeks who are finalists, if it's true that those people are the only ones contacted for an interview.

It appears that a lack of interview doesn't necessarily mean rejection, as user papatango was apparently admitted without one.. so maybe they contact people to decide who will get the last few spots?

I have a feeling that with the state of the economy, this years class will ultimately be smaller than previous years, which doesn't bode well for us considering how few people they admit to the program to begin with.

You know, I kind of have to doubt that papatango was able to get in without an interview. My take is either he had an interview and got in, or didn't actually get in.

With wolf saying that they accepted 8 people two years ago and 4 people last year, I would find it highly unlikely that one of those 12 was not interviewed. With such a low acceptance rate one would think that they take the time to talk with each finalist before making a decision. You can't get the measure of a person entirely from a sheet of paper... and I'm sure they know this. So, I doubt someone would be accepted without and interview.

No idea, I sent him a PM but doubt I'll hear back.

I'm definitely not the best interviewer, so I'm pretty nervous about the prospect of being required to have one if I'm lucky enough to make it that far in the selection process.

There's so many amazing candidates who apply to this program that I'm not actually expecting anything.

I wish some of the other RUE people would post here so we could get more information on the whole interview process.

I too wish more RUE applicants would post... any amount of information that could be given would be nice. The lack of information about the program is rather frustrating... it would be nice to know when they plan on/or if they have already contacted people for interview.

I asked my friend he said he ended up calling Brown since he had to commit somewhere else before they had contacted him. But they did do an interview. (Don't everyone get the same idea and say you have to commit somewhere else lol)

Hey wolf, could you find out any of the 'stats' of the folks who made it into the program? Or ask them to come talk with us? :)

It would be useful for us, but also future applicants to be able to get a better idea of what Brown is looking for in applicants

I hate to do this, but Penn's LPS program is being misrepresented on this forum. It's NOT the same degree other undergrads get, it's not necessarily taught by the same professors (the majority of the night classes are taught by graduate students and adjuncts), etc.

It's the least integrated of all the Ivy non-traditional programs.

I only know the stats of one person, he had near perfect grades and had impressive extra currics (nuclear reactor operator on a carrier). Two of the four people admitted last year were male ballet dancers. The previous year a 2 of the 8 were a married couple. One other was my friend, and maybe 3-4 of the others were ex-military.

Just hold your horses you'll find out soon enough!
